Registration of the author's profile in the RSCI
Go to the registration page: https://elibrary.ru/author_info.asp?isnew=1&rpage=
Be sure to fill out all the fields provided. The organization and department are selected through the select menu. Please, carefully consider registering in the Science Index, as this will allow you to edit and attach articles yourself to your lists of articles and citations.
Now we can go to the author’s profile in the RSCI (eLIBRARY.RU) in order to adjust our data, find articles, update citations and author indicators.
On the main page of eLIBRARY.RU we find the “Login” block on the left. Enter your username and password.

So, we find ourselves in the Author’s Personal Profile in eLIBRARY.RU.
Using the author’s personal profile tools, you can correct information about your publications, view your citations, attach citations, and receive up-to-date information about article citations in Scopus and Web of Science.

The questionnaire that you filled out when registering as an author in the SCIENCE INDEX system.
You can add or change all fields in the questionnaire. If you change your job, change your last name, or have other significant changes, you can always adjust the author’s profile data.
Editing the list of author's publications in the RSCI
In the "My publications" section you can see the List of publications in the RSCI of which you are the author. In this section, you can only delete publications that do not apply to you or were attached by mistake, as well as attach publications that have not yet been automatically attached.
In the "My Publications" section, you can also link publications to the author's profile. In the search query, select “unlinked publications that may belong to the author.” In our case, there are no such publications. But if they exist, you can tick them next to the publication and click the item in the “Tools” section “Add selected publications to the list of author’s works.”
If the publications you are looking for are not found, you can use the tool " Search publications" in the author's profile.
If you found your article, but it is not in your list. Go to the article page by clicking on its title. On the right in the “Tools” block you will select “Add publication to the list of my works”. Afterwards, you can check how the article was attached either in the list of publications, or by going to the publication page, you will see a notification that the article is on your list.
Editing and searching for author citations in the RSCI
In chapter " My citations"You can look at the List of links to your publications. Also, what is especially important, you can find citations that were not attached to you.
Go to "My citations". In the “Show” item, select “unlinked links that may belong to this author.” Click "Search". In our case, 26 were found unlinked links, and these are 26 citations not included in the author’s indicators!
In order to add links, check the box next to the link, and then click in the menu on the right “Tools”, the item indicated in the screenshot above “Add selected links to the list of author citations”. Confirm that you are the author of the cited publications.
Additionally, you can use “Search for citations in the RSCI” in the author’s profile if the initials and surname were incorrectly indicated.
Updating bibliometric indicators of the author in the RSCI
To update bibliometric data such as H-index, number of citations, etc., go to the section in the Author's Profile " Analysis of publication activity" . Select, as shown below, “Update author metrics”.
Your metrics are now updated.
In a previous post I already wrote that the Russian index scientific citation calculated by the Elibrary.ru electronic scientific library service. To find out your RSCI, you first need to register in this service, providing information about yourself as accurately as possible.
1. How to register on Elibrary.ru to calculate the RSCI?
There are two registration options: regular user and registration as an author. The second includes the first, i.e. first register as a user, and then as an author - or immediately fill out an extended questionnaire.
To do this, go to registration page and carefully fill out all fields marked with an asterisk.
In addition to the names, the fields also have explanations and hints. To see them, hover over the question mark next to each field.
Where there is a Select or Add button, click it and fill out the form that appears on top of the main questionnaire. For example, in the following form, manually enter the full name of the organization on the left, and select the city where it is located on the right. After that, click Search and select the desired organization from the list (if only one is found, click it - this is the only way it will appear in the field of the main form).
After this, the additional form can be closed.
Having reached the end of the user form, check the box next to the inscription “register me as an author in the Science Index system” and continue filling out - as an author.
When all fields marked with an asterisk are completed, do not forget to click the Save button.
2. Fields not marked with an asterisk are also important!
Fields that are not marked with an asterisk do not need to be filled in immediately; they can be edited later by logging into the same page using your name and password. But there is no need to delay filling them out, otherwise your RSCI will remain a mystery for a long time.
Be sure to fill out the Journals field (they are added from the ready-made RSCI list).
If you work or have worked in different organizations, enter other organizations in the Organizations field (necessary for better recognition of your work if some of your publications indicate other organizations).
For the same reasons, the form contains the Previous last name (maiden name) field.
3. How long should I wait for the result?
But I don’t know!!! In any case, the result will not be ready as quickly as one would expect from a modern web service! What were you waiting for? This is a serious Russian scientific service, and not some Yandex or Google! Its developers seriously complain that only a limited budget did not allow them to carry out manual data processing. I waited for the result for so long that more than once I imagined librarian girls painstakingly sorting through paper forms in wooden boxes.
Seriously, they say that information is processed within 10 days. But this is provided that you have not ignored the fields without asterisks. If after a couple of weeks there is no result, then check the completeness and correctness of filling out the registration form and, if necessary, make changes to it: edit keywords, add sections of thematic rubric, journals, etc. After editing, the RSCI should be determined almost immediately.
On the elibrary.ru website, in the menu on the left, click Author's search (or go to this link), fill out the form that opens and click Search.
The main numbers - the number of publications and the number of citations - are located at the bottom right. Clicking on any of these numbers will open the corresponding list of publications.
The viewing option is also available to unregistered users. Without registration or authorization, you can find out the RICN of any scientist - of course, provided that he himself is registered on Elibrary.ru as an author.
RSCI, or the Russian Science Citation Index, takes into account citations and publications of authors in 7 thousand Russian magazines and contains information about 700 thousand scientists, 11 thousand scientific organizations.
The project has existed since 2005, but in many areas of science earlier archives are presented. In 2005, the Ministry of Education and Science put on the agenda the issue of improving the quality of research activities in Russia.
The reason for this was the extremely low number of references to the works of Russian scientists by their Western colleagues. It was assumed that this was due to the lack of tools for objective assessment of the work of researchers. As a result, healthy competition did not stimulate scientists to work at a higher quality, and material support in the form of grants and awards was often given to the wrong author who really deserved it.
All over the world, a scientist’s rating is assessed using scientometric indicators; they are calculated by special analytical platforms Web of Science, Scopus). A competition was announced for the creation of the RSCI. Based on the results of the competition, the Elibrary electronic library was chosen as the official website. It is on this Internet resource that you can find out the RSCI rating for scientists, journals, and scientific organizations.
The RSCI index allows you to objectively assess scientific activity. For this purpose, special scientometric indicators have been developed. Both RSCI and other analytical platforms use them for their activities. Speaking about what functions the RSCI performs, we should separately emphasize the informational one.
Since 2010, the RSCI database began to include not only articles from scientific periodicals, but also monographs, dissertations, theses and reports from collections of conference materials, patents, and textbooks.
RSCI journals and conferences are included in databases based on the selection of the highest quality ones. Although in Russian science It is discussed how conscientiously this selection is carried out, however, completely incompetent publications are not taken into account for calculating the index.
To objectively assess the quality of a scientist’s work, the citation index is used. Unlike English-language analytical platforms, scientometric indicators of the RSCI are calculated in a differentiated manner. You can see not only the number of citations of a researcher’s works, but also see the percentage of self-citations, mentions in reference lists, and links in independent articles of the scientist’s former co-authors.
RSCI also calculates the Hirsch index - this is an indicator that is equal to the number of articles cited at least a certain number of times.
Many scientists are interested in the question of how to increase RSCI indicators. You can increase your RSCI rating using various tricks that cannot be calculated. For example, mutual citation is popular, when colleagues agree to mention each other in their works, and journals sometimes require authors to refer to any publication from this publication in their article.
How to register with the RSCI and how to determine your index
First of all, to get into the RSCI, a scientist must create a personal account. Registration in the RSCI is carried out on the website Elibrary.ru. The user indicates his passport details, place of work, email address, and creates a login and password to exit. After that he Mailbox You will receive a personal code that will be needed to access the RSCI scientometric database. This is how a scientist can access the RSCI: how to find out his index, and evaluate the performance of colleagues or the degree of authority of the journal.
One of the advantages of this system is the ability to independently adjust the RSCI rating indicators: both add a new publication and correct information entered by mistake. After registering with the RSCI, the author can save journal search settings in the RSCI database, store the history of viewing publications, and make thematic collections.
Without authorization, users do not have access to information from the RSCI database. This applies to both freely available articles and paid publications. In order to read full-text versions of such articles, you must subscribe to the publication. For free, a site visitor can only get acquainted with the abstract, keywords, and bibliography.
The search for journals in the RSCI database can be carried out by word or by topic, taking into account the impact factor or without it.
RSCI: requirements for the design of an article, journal, bibliography
Several years ago, a unified standard for the design of publications for the RSCI was adopted. The requirements for articles are fully set out in a pdf document, where all the details are described in detail on 5 pages: title and font size (Times New Roman, 14), paragraph indent (1.25 cm), margin width (2 cm), line spacing (1.5).
It is forbidden to use the letter “е”, colored pictures, bold font, or insert spaces between paragraphs. The text is aligned in width, word wrapping should be automatic. All references to literary sources throughout the text are placed in square brackets.
The RSCI requirements for the design of a list of references are as follows: automatic numbering of sources is not allowed (only manually), font size - 12, names of sources are drawn up according to a standard template. Publication requirements also make it necessary for the reference section to be compiled by the researcher himself, and not by the journal editors. The reference part includes an abstract, a list of keywords, and information about the author. This data is also typed in 12 font, information about the author includes the surname and initials, the full name of the organization on the basis of which the research was carried out, city, academic title, degree and position of the scientist. The author's surname and the name of the institution are given in Russian and English according to RSCI standards.
The requirements for journals are not so clear. Inclusion of a scientific publication in the RSCI list is possible on the basis of a contract between the editors and the administration of the Elibrary electronic library. You can fill out an application on the website on the Internet.
How the RSCI database and its official website are developing
Several years ago, the project leaders entered into contracts with the administration of the Web of Science and Scopus platforms. Now the Russian Science Citation Index on the official website is indicated taking into account the researcher’s rating indicators from these analytical sites. In 2015, the best periodicals from the RSCI list of journals were included in the Web of Science database. Reference part of articles on English language posted in the public domain - these are annotations, information about the author, bibliography, keywords.
