Planting and leaving irgi in the open field. Irga: reproduction, planting and care in the open field Irga planting and care of the variety

Irga is a deciduous shrub of the apple genus with berries rich in vitamins. Irga, planting and caring for which does not cause any particular difficulties, is deservedly popular with summer residents and gardeners.

The plant has excellent decorative properties. Berries have not only a wonderful sweet and sour taste, but also have many medicinal properties.

Plant variety

When properly planted and cared for, the Canadian Irgi photo can confirm the beauty of the plant and the ability to bear a lot of fruit.

The fruits of the canadensis are large in size, beautiful in color, juicy, with a high degree of taste. Irga canadensis begins to bloom in May, bears fruit in mid-summer, leaves change color in September. In early October, they begin to fall off.

Choosing a landing site

Due to its unpretentiousness, irge does not get the best places in the garden. When planted in shady areas, the plant begins to reach for the sun's rays, which leads to increased growth. The shrub begins to resemble a tree, on which all the largest and ripe berries are at the top to the delight of flying birds.

Transplanting an adult plant is very difficult due to the developed root system, which extends several meters deep.

It is quite possible for a shrub to find a sunny or slightly shaded area. Despite the fact that irga is unpretentious to the soil, it is desirable that it be fertile. Then the roots of the plant will be able to receive adequate nutrition, and not scatter the root shoots far away.

When planting a number of shrubs, a sufficient distance should be observed between them. Irga is a fast growing plant. When planted close, the foliage of neighboring shrubs will begin to shade each other, which leads to a decrease in the number of fruits. The root system will not have enough nutrients and it will have to scatter its branches further away. This will make the area near shrubs unsuitable for planting other plants.

The distance between irgi bushes and other plantings should be within 2 to 5 meters.

If you want to use the irgi bushes as a hedge, you can plant the bushes in a checkerboard pattern.

Landing

In nature, there are about two dozen species of irgi. In the Moscow region, planting and caring for Irga canadian gives the best results. The shrub begins to bloom in May. The color of the leaves varies from white to purple-red. The fruits are large and juicy.

Irga can be planted in spring and autumn. Autumn planting is considered more preferable. During this period, the soil will be rich in nutrients. There will be enough time for the plant to take root.

The seedling for planting should be 1-2 years old.

Planting and leaving irgi in the suburbs due to the peculiarities of the soil requires preparatory work:

  1. Remove weeds from the area intended for planting.
  2. Apply fertilizers to the upper soil layer: organic - 3-4 kg, superphosphate - 0.5 kg, potassium salt - 200 g. Ash is an excellent potash fertilizer.
  3. Dig a layer of soil onto the "shovel bayonet" to a depth of 20-22 cm.
  4. If the soil is acidic, then lime should be added.
  5. Dig a planting hole 50-80 cm wide, 30-40 cm deep.

Landing:

  1. Lower the seedling into the dug hole so that the entire root system is below ground level.
  2. Dig in the seedling, slightly inclined from the sunny side, with dug earth and tamp it carefully.
  3. Water abundantly.
  4. When the soil has settled, add soil to align the planting site with the surface.
  5. Cover the top layer with mulch.
  6. Shorten the upper part of the shoot, making sure that a sufficient number of well-developed buds remain.

Planting irgi in the open field and caring for it in spring and autumn are practically the same. If a harsh winter is ahead, then during the autumn planting it is better to leave the shortened part on the surface. This will also protect the plant from strong gusts of wind. The landing site can be covered with spruce branches from above.

Planting irgi in the spring has its advantages:

  • the plant is no longer afraid of cold and frost - the possibility of its death becomes minimal;
  • at this time, gardening is already more often visited by summer residents, who can provide the plant with care and, if necessary, help;
  • watering will be carried out regularly;
  • if there are visible signs of illness, action will be taken.

Despite the unpretentiousness of the plant, you should pay the necessary attention to it.

Growing and caring

Despite the unpretentiousness of the plant, you cannot completely ignore it. Growing irgi and caring for it can be reduced to the following points:

  • top dressing;
  • weeding;
  • loosening the soil;
  • watering;
  • pruning;
  • pest control.

Top dressing should be applied in summer. It should have a liquid consistency. Top dressing should be done closer to night time. The effect will be better if done after heavy rain or full watering.

You can use organic fertilizers for feeding, for example, bird droppings. 4-6 kg are applied under each bush. Compost and ash are good fertilizers. Mown grass can be used. It must be poured in a suitable container with water, protected from light and kept for a week.

After planting, superphosphate, ammonium nitrate, and potassium sulfate should be regularly added under the bush.

When the bush begins to bear fruit, the branches that have not yet matured may not withstand the severity of the harvest and break off. To prevent this from happening, the strapping should be made with suitable materials. Over time, the branches will become thicker, and the need for strapping will disappear.

A bush should be formed from strong root shoots. Weak ones should be cut out so that they do not take away the strength from the more strongly fruiting. In the fall, after harvesting, the soil around the bush should be dug up. In this case, the depth should not be too great, so as not to damage the root system.

The root system of the irgi goes into the depths, where it finds the necessary amount of moisture for itself. Therefore, it is necessary to water it only in case of severe drought.

Birds are great lovers of irgi berries. If you do not take action, then they will get the best harvest, because the first and largest berries appear on the upper branches.

Despite the fact that irga is resistant to the adverse effects of the external environment, it may not always be able to cope with garden pests and get sick. Proper planting and caring for an irga includes pest control.

The main pests are:

  • fruit rot;
  • mole;
  • irrigated seed-eater;
  • hawthorn;
  • leaf roll;
  • wrinkled swamp.

To combat pests will help: thinning the bush, timely harvesting, moderate watering. To destroy harmful caterpillars and beetles, spray irgi bushes before the appearance of berries or after harvesting with specially designed means.

Diseases to which irgi bushes are susceptible:

  1. Tuberculosis. The leaves begin to turn brown, dry out and fall off. Then the branches undergo drying out, on which reddish tubercles appear. The affected branches must be cut out. Spray the bush with copper sulfate. In the spring, spraying can be done as a preventive measure.
  2. Rust. The leaves become brownish and wither. The plant is treated with Bordeaux liquid.
  3. Gray rot. Yellowed leaves are covered with gray mold. The reason is most often excess moisture, so you need to reduce watering.
  4. Defeat with fingertip moth. This pest is fought with the use of karbofos.

In order not to spread pests around the garden plot, cut diseased branches and fallen leaves should be burned next to the bush.

How to properly prune irgu in the spring

Pruning irgi in the spring is a must-have for her care.

A few years after planting, you should start rejuvenating the bush:

  • thinning;
  • pruning elongated branches, giving the bush the correct shape;
  • cutting of basal stems.

Proper planting and caring for irga will give a good harvest of berries with powerful medicinal properties.

When thinning, all weak branches are cut out and bent inward. It helps to survive and become stronger healthy. They get more air and sunlight. Only strong shoots should remain, which will form a rich harvest.

Irga is a powerful, tall culture, its berries ripen at the same time as currants. Irga will contain a lot of pectin (up to 7%), and this is a good natural sponge that removes toxins and toxins from the body. Irga is an absolute non-capricious berry culture. Unpretentious in care, winter-hardy and undemanding to the timing and place of planting. It will take root in any cultivated area. For the plant to feel good, it is enough to follow the basic agrotechnical techniques.

I became interested in Irgo more than 15 years ago. I was introduced to her by the outstanding and now deceased professor E.P. Kuminov, a renowned berry breeder, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences. I defended my Ph.D. thesis on irga and thanks to the seedlings carefully sown by Evgeny Petrovich, I bred the variety Starlight Night , which has been included in the State Register since 2016.

Planting dates for irgi

Irga is amazingly hardy. Even Michurin recommended irga as a rootstock for growing apple and pear in the far north.

Irga can be planted literally in frozen soil in autumn and winter. At the same time, she was not at all afraid that she would die. The main thing is that the root system of the seedling is well developed.

Irgi landing site

On the one hand, the irga is undemanding, so the landing site can be any. On the other hand, you need to understand that a living plant will not grow in a swamp, in a hard shade it will always reach for the light, and on poor, dense soil it will not give a good harvest.

The best place to plant an irgi:

  • soils with a neutral reaction of the environment, loose, moderately moist and moderately fertile.
  • in winter so that more snow accumulates, and thawed, rain, irrigation water does not stagnate for a long time,
  • the place should be protected from the cold wind from the north,
  • the groundwater level is at least 2 m below the soil surface.

What to plant next to Irga?

Quite calmly next to the irga, retreating 2.5-3 m, you can plant:

  • black currant,
  • raspberries,
  • gooseberry.

It is better not to plant next to irga:

  • manchu nut (oppresses irgu),
  • birch (absorbs a lot of moisture from the soil).

Irgi planting pit

The landing hole is prepared in advance, preferably a couple of weeks before the irgi planting. I advise you to dig a hole 25-30% more in width and depth than the volume of the root system of the seedling.

At the bottom of the planting hole, be sure to lay a drainage layer of 2-3 cm (gravel, expanded clay, broken brick, small pebbles). On top of the drainage, put a layer of nutritious soil mixture of sod land, humus, topsoil (2 kg each) with the addition of 1 tbsp. l. nitroammofoski (complex mineral fertilizer). Mix everything thoroughly and put in the base of the hole, pour out 1 bucket of water.

Irgi planting rules

We place the seedling in a pre-prepared planting hole and sprinkle it with soil:

  1. on the moistened nutrient mixture, we install the root system of the irgi seedling, carefully straightening the roots;
  2. sprinkle the roots with soil, shaking the seedling a little so that voids do not form between the roots and the soil;
  3. we compact the soil and pour a couple of buckets of water;
  4. we mulch the surface with humus with a layer of 2 cm.

Whether to deepen the root collar when planting irgi?

When planting, pay attention to the root collar - the place where the roots go into the stem:

  • If you want a tree to form from a seedling, then place the root collar 2 cm above the soil surface.
  • If you need a bush with replacement shoots that are actively growing from the roots, then deepen the root collar by 2 cm.

Irgi planting scheme

The planting scheme of irgi depends on whether it is a species or a variety. As a rule, varieties are characterized by restrained growth, so if you plant 2 irgi plants of different varieties, then you can leave 3 m of free space between them. The same amount of time you can retreat from fences, house walls, other plants and structures.

Features of planting species of irgi

If we are talking about types of irgi, then the scheme and timing of planting for them will be slightly different. In total, 2 types of irgi are usually grown in the culture:

  1. irga alder,
  2. Irga canadian, or close to it in appearance, taste and size of the fruits of irga Lamarck.

Irga alder-leaved it has a less spreading crown, so 3 m between plants is quite enough. Due to the increased winter hardiness, alder-leaved irgu and its varieties ( Starlight Night , Mandan ) can be planted in the fall (before the soil freezes) and in the spring (after it thaws).

Irga Lamarca or Irga canadian differ only in minor changes in the structure of the flower and are characterized by a highly spreading crown. They need to be planted less often, retreating 4 m from each other. Irga canadian , irgu Lamarca and their varieties ( Slate ) it is advisable to plant either in early autumn or spring. They are less winter-hardy than alder irga.

More about the types and varieties of irgi.

Irga care after planting

Caring for an irga after planting is reduced to removing weeds in the bust area, loosening the soil, and top dressing. Watering irga in drought.

To feed irgi, in the spring, a complex mineral fertilizer is applied (1 tbsp. L nitroammofoska), in the summer - phosphoric and potassium fertilizers (1 tsp. Potassium sulfate and superphosphate), and in the fall you can do with potassium fertilizers (250-300 g of wood ash ).

Pruning irgi after planting

  • If the root system of the irgi seedling is not damaged, then pruning is not needed.
  • If the roots are damaged, then it is advisable to at least approximately subordinate the aboveground and underground parts, cutting off the shoots by 1/3 of their length immediately after planting or in spring.

Sanitary pruning of irgi consists in removing dry and broken shoots, those that grow deeper into the crown, leading to thickening. Shrub pruning can be done at any time of the year, even in summer. Therefore, irgu is often used in the design of an orchard, as a deciduous hedge.

In what year does the irga bear fruit after planting?

The timing of when the irgi plants begin to bear fruit strongly depends on the seedlings:

  • If these are seedlings, then the fruits will have to wait 3-4 years, subject to good care.
  • If these are grafted plants (for irga, mountain ash, hawthorn), then the fruits can give already in the year of vaccination (spring copulation) or the next year (summer budding).

Nikolay Khromov, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Senior Researcher

Everyone dreams that as many crops as possible predominate on his site, which require a little care, but please with abundant fruits. Having collected enough information about one of these, this article will talk about a wonderful berry - irga.

Irga is a berry that does not need to be given a lot of time. That is why gardeners call it an unpretentious plant. It takes root well on any soil, with the exception of swampy areas. Also, this durable plant is used in landscape design.

Irga received the greatest distribution in the countries of Canada and the USA. According to data from various sources, there are approximately 20-25 varieties of irgi. In Russia, the berry is massively distributed in the Caucasus and Crimea. Birds make their contribution to the resettlement of the culture, so the irgu can be easily spotted on the edges of forests or on rocks.

Alder-leaved

The culture is shade tolerant, disease resistant and grows to about 4 meters in height. It differs from other species in a greater need for watering. The fruit grows deep purple in color, has a sweet taste and reaches a size of about 15 mm in diameter.

During the season, an adult tree brings ten kilograms of berries. Alder-leaved irga is used for making jam and wine.

The bush blooms in the twenties of May. Flowers during this period are white and exude a faint sweet scent.

Canadian

This type of irgi is perfect for decorating the site. Reaches 6 meters in height. Photophilous, frost-resistant and with proper care, its life expectancy reaches 50 years. The berries, which have a pleasant tart taste, ripen from mid to late summer.

Therefore, several shades of berries can be observed in one period. During the season, an adult tree brings from five to eighteen kilograms of berries.

Blood red

The shrub grows up to a maximum of 3 meters in height. In spring, the leaves of the bush are bright green, and in autumn they turn golden. The flattened fruits do not taste very good, but they make excellent juice. The berries ripen late and yield about 5 kilograms of harvest.

Landing

First you need to decide on a place for landing. Unpretentious irga will grow in almost any area. It is resistant to winds and drought, but when choosing it is worth giving preference to lightened places. The soil should be treated to remove weeds. Legumes are excellent precursors for irgi.

Annual or biennial seedlings are the best option for planting. At this age, they have a good survival rate. You should pay attention to the bark so that there is no damage on it, and the color corresponds to the variety. With the preservation of a good root system, the culture will successfully take root in a new place.

Berries are planted both in autumn and spring. Gardeners also recommend choosing the autumn period. Before frost, the seedlings will have time to take root and gain strength in order to successfully survive the winter.

Over time, the irga will grow and will take up a lot of space on the site. Also, the culture has abundant growth, which can cause certain inconveniences. Therefore, when planting, it is recommended to keep the distance between trees at least 3 meters.

Step-by-step landing algorithm:

  • Cleans the area from weeds. About 10 kg of humus is introduced with the addition of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, 40 grams per square meter.
  • Dig holes 35 cm wide and 50 cm deep.
  • The soil dug out of the hole is mixed with humus and sand in a ratio of 3: 1.
  • Humus with prepared fertilizer is poured at the bottom of the pit.
  • A seedling is planted, gently straightening the roots.
  • Cover the root with soil with humus.
  • The land under the bush is watered abundantly.
  • After completely absorbing water, the earth is tamped and mulched with straw.
  • The upper part of the shoot is rooted, leaving no more than five buds.

Care

Irga grows at a fast pace and does not require special care. Many gardeners do not pay attention to culture at all. However, this approach is considered incorrect. Small but regular plant maintenance is a must.

New seedlings need constant watering until a young growth appears. In drought, adult bushes should be watered with one bucket once a day. With moderate rainfall, watering is not required at all.

Irga growth is influenced by regular loosening and weeding. These procedures increase air access to the roots. It also helps to get rid of strong root growth.

The first fertilizers are given to the plant upon reaching the age of five.

  • Compost (bucket).
  • Superphosphate (300 g).
  • Potash fertilizers without chlorine (200 g).

In addition, from April to mid-July, you can feed the plant with organic matter. To do this, bird droppings and water in a ratio of 1 to 10 are suitable. An adult bush will require about five liters of the mixture.

Sanitary pruning should be done every season. Dry, old and diseased shoots are removed from the bush. Slices are processed with garden varnish. For a good development of culture, about ten shoots are enough.

Formative pruning is especially important for young shrubs. And the removal of branches on old plants gives an incentive to build new ones. This pruning creates the correct crown for the plant.

Reproduction in the open field

Berry propagation methods:

Seeds

It is considered the best, but the longest way. Ripe berries are selected on mature and healthy bushes. The seeds are not dried and stored in a cool place. They are placed between cotton wool soaked in hydrogen peroxide.

Wrapped in cellophane and left for four months. Further, the seeds are planted in a small greenhouse, keeping a distance of 20 cm between them. In twenty days the seeds will wake up.

The second option is to offer planting in the fall in pre-prepared beds. Cover with sand on top and watered. The first shoots will appear in the spring.

Dividing the bush

With this option, bushes are chosen no older than six years. The old branches are removed and then the bush is dissected with a spatula, leaving 3-4 shoots on each part. Each compartment must have a well-developed root system. Also, this option helps to rejuvenate the bush.

Cuttings

This procedure is best done by experienced gardeners. For planting material, cut shoots about 15 cm long. Remove all leaves, leaving a couple of the upper ones. Further, the cuttings are dipped in a special stimulating solution, after which they are washed and transplanted into a greenhouse.

The top layer is sprinkled with sand and covered with foil. It is better to keep the soil a little moist and sometimes ventilate in a greenhouse. After rooting the cuttings, they should be transplanted to a pre-selected area.

Create a layering

With this option, two-year branches with good growth are chosen. When the sun begins to warm the soil in spring, the growths must be dug in. The soil is well dug up and fertilized. Further, grooves are drawn in which the shoots are fixed.

The tops should be slightly pinched. When the green shoots stretch 10 cm in height, they must be covered with half of humus. The procedure is repeated when they grow another 15 cm.

Autumn is considered the best period for cutting off the cuttings.

»Irga

Irga is a very unpretentious berry bush. Its berries are prized for their healing properties, they are rich in vitamins. It is using these berries that you can defeat a number of diseases, such as: vitamin deficiency, colds and viral diseases, and a number of others. This berry is considered a long-liver, regardless of the place and growing conditions.

Basically, irga is used as an ornamental plant. In spring, it blooms very beautifully and smells fragrant throughout the garden. Its white inflorescences are a bait for bees, which is why in the future it is well pollinated and bears fruit. And to get a healthy plant and a good harvest, you need proper care, starting with planting.

When choosing a planting date, gardeners need to take into account climatic, zonal conditions.

The best time for planting seedlings in central Russia is autumn.... Before the onset of the first frost, saplings planted from mid-September to early November, manage to take root and gain strength for wintering.

Autumn is the most favorable time of the year for planting irgi

In the northern regions of Russia, the planting of irgi should be postponed to spring. This is due to early autumn frosts. And in the spring, when the soil begins to thaw a little, you can plant bushes that are in a dormant period. With increased sunlight and the onset of warmer days, the irga begins to dissolve its buds, without the risk of freezing.

It is necessary to calculate as much as possible in what time frame you will plant fruit seedlings, take into account all the conditions of the climate and the region for growing. If planted late in the fall, the plant will simply freeze. It should also not be planted in early spring due to continued frost.

An important condition for obtaining the maximum yield from the plant is compliance with the optimal planting dates. If this deadline for the autumn planting is missed, but the seedlings are ready for planting, they can be saved until spring using one of the methods suggested below:

  1. Place in a container filled with sand or sawdust, and store in a cool dark place. Better if it is a basement or cellar;
  2. Dig in the ground, while tilting the seedlings at an angle of 45 degrees from the soil and cover with snow in winter;
  3. And the last way wrap in a bag and put in the place of the garden where a large snowdrift forms in winter.

When is the best time to plant - in spring or autumn?

According to the advice of experts, the best time to plant or transplant all fruit and berry plants is autumn. If the terms and rules of autumn planting are met, the best planting material is used, your plant will easily take root.

Benefits of planting trees in autumn:

  • Autumn planting is a little hassle, since frequent watering and fertilization are not required. Autumn is the time of abundant moisture;
  • It is more expedient and it is more profitable to buy seedlings in the fall, since it is during this period that there is a large selection of planting material. The last leaves are still on the seedlings, there is a well-developed root system, according to which you can choose a healthy plant. Also, some sellers can demonstrate the ripe fruits of this plant;
  • Planting a plant in autumn save the gardener's time in spring, thanks to which he will be able to do other garden work;
  • Less damage will be done to the plant, since at this time a period of rest begins.

But there are also disadvantages when planting in the fall. These include:

  • Very cold winters, with deep freezing of the ground, which can harm the root system of the seedling;
  • In winter, often trees exposed to rodent infestations;
  • Big trouble planted bushes can cause strong winds, a rough snow crust formed, a small or large amount of snowfall;

Important rules for boarding, seat selection

If you have a garden plot, then when planting irgi, first of all it is necessary to determine the place... The irgi bush grows strongly over time and takes up a fairly large area in the garden, so you need to plant it so that it does not interfere with the rest of the fruit and berry plants in your garden. Also, the irgi has abundant growth, which over time will litter your site and cause inconvenience. Better to plant irga somewhere in the corner of the garden. Approximate distance from other trees from 2 to 5 meters.

Irga is a spreading bush, therefore, when planting, you should maintain a distance of 2 - 5 m from neighboring plants

You also need to consider the types of soil your plant will grow on. Although irga is unpretentious to the types of soil, nevertheless, it does not like the close location of groundwater, since the root system goes 3-4 meters deep and will be in constant contact with moisture. This can lead to root rot. Therefore, it is better to plant on light, fertile soils. Such soils contribute to the minimum formation of root shoots.

When planting irgi, the illumination of the site is important, she loves partial shade very much... With strong shading, the plant will stretch out strongly during growth, the berries will be small and not sweet. They may even crumble without ripening.

How to plant a shrub

Irga reproduces well both by seeds and by root offspring. First you need to properly prepare the seedling for planting. Better to choose a one or two year old scion... You also need to select more healthy bushes, not damaged by insects and not broken off. Species and varieties of irgi are considered important when choosing a seedling. When planting several plants, take into account the distance between them up to two meters.

We have already mentioned that the choice of location and soil depends on the light, the presence of fertile soils, and the amount of space around the tree.

Where to start planting and further care

You need to dig a hole about two bayonets of the shovel deep into, and about 40 to 60 cm wide. Carefully pour the earth to the side. Drainage can be placed at the bottom of the fossa(broken brick, small stones, broken slate) so that moisture does not stagnate in the soil. You can add sand, black soil to the hole. Further, it is necessary to pour a little earth in the form of a tubercle on the bottom of the hole, so that it is easier to place our seedling on it. We put an irga on this tubercle and straighten the roots along it. Next, we cover it with earth, but so as not to bury the place where the trunk passes into the root system. The soil around the planted plant should be trampled down and watered abundantly.

Many gardeners advise, after planting, pruning shoots to 15 cm so that a few buds remain on the branches.

We have already mentioned that irga is an unpretentious shrub. It does not require significant maintenance. The main thing is watering as the earthen coma dries up around the tree and applying fertilizers. Used as fertilizers humus, potash fertilizers, superphosphate and organic mixtures.

If you decide to feed the plant with fertilizers, remember that you cannot apply fertilizer under the trunk and root itself. It is necessary to dig up the fertilizer half a meter from the bush, since the roots of the plant are large and it is able to receive fertilizer even from such a distance. You need to water from a sprayer, and not pour in one stream under the root, mainly in the evening.

Pruning

The irgi bush very often grows thickened, so it is pruned. It is recommended that pruning be carried out in the spring, when the irgi sap flow has not begun... Cut dry or poorly developed tree shoots. A couple of stems are removed annually, leaving young shoots in their place. Also, the tops of the branches are pruned by a few centimeters to form a bush of the correct shape, and also so that there is no excessive thickening. They also cut out the lateral root shoots so that it does not damage other fruit trees on the site.

Pruning makes the irgi bush more attractive and also promotes better fruiting.

After cutting off branches and shoots, it is necessary to close the cuts... This is done using garden varnish or paint on natural ingredients. Cut off dry branches and fallen leaves should be removed from under the bush, this is necessary in order to protect the plant from pests that can start in old leaves.

Reproduction and transplantation

Irgu can be propagated in several ways:

  • Seeds;
  • Root shoots;
  • Graft;
  • Cuttings;
  • Division of the uterine bush.

Seeds

When propagating by seeds, you need to select the most ripe, undamaged berries. Release seeds. Mix them with sand, as they are very small. Seeds are sown in the fall in prepared beds... It is important that the seeds are stratified, that is, they are cold-hardened. You can also sow seeds in a bowl of sand and stratify in a dark basement, periodically dampening the sand. In the spring, such seedlings are planted in the ground.

Root shoots

Since the irga produces a large number of lateral root suckers, this method is most common among amateur gardeners. The lateral stepson is carefully dug out from the side of the mother tree to cut the root connecting the main bush with the offspring. Next, we transfer the seedling to a new planting site and bury it in a previously prepared hole.

Graft

Vaccination is one of the more difficult breeding methods. It is mainly used by experienced gardeners. Vaccination can be carried out in the spring, after the sap flow has begun.... Rowan is the most suitable for the stock.

Cuttings

For cuttings, young shoots are cut, about 20 cm. Young cuttings are cut from the leaves, but the top pair is left... It is necessary to hold such planting material for some time in a growth stimulant solution. Then we bury them in the sand up to 10 cm. Cover with a film. It is important that the sand does not dry out; occasionally we open the film for airing. After the cuttings take root, they must be transplanted to a permanent place.

By dividing the bush

By dividing the main bush, you can get several ready-made, well-rooted plants. Such a transplant is carried out in the spring, before bud break, or in the fall, when the foliage falls.... Basically, this method is used when you need to transplant a bush from one place to another.

Output

Irga can be found in almost every garden. This is due to the fact that this plant is unpretentious in its cultivation, care and reproduction. Subject to all the rules of agricultural technology, all gardeners receive the maximum yield of this berry. which brings a lot of benefits to human health.

Irga shrub perfectly adapts to our harsh climate. Decorates any landscape, has a magical aroma and delicious fruits.

However, for some reason, it is still not very popular among gardeners.

Varieties and types

Canadian irga

Reaches 6 meters in height, and can even grow into a small tree. Long foliage is dark green in color and turns golden in autumn.

The height is about 2.5 meters. The bushes have a branched crown on silver stems. The foliage is dark green in summer and red-brown by autumn.

Fruits are dark blue in color, ripen in July - August, starting from 5 years of age. Flowering occurs in early May.

Irga smoki

Not a well-known variety with large, tasty berries. Bushes are planted at a distance because of their spreading. Less adapted to dry weather than other species.

Irga pembina

The height of the shrub is up to 3 meters, sometimes it grows into a small tree. The berries are small and very sweet. Ripen in the second half of July.

Smooth Irga

The length is up to 3.5 meters. Has a small oval crown. When flowering, the shoots are covered with copper-pink leaves, which, together with racemose inflorescences, look very impressive and beautiful.

Berries up to 1 centimeter in diameter are creamy with a pink barrel. They taste delicious. Irga bears fruit since 4 years. Blooms before summer.

Planting and further care

The seedlings should be 1-2 years old. They are planted according to the 4x2, 5x3 principle. The distance in the rows should be 0.5-1.8 meters. After preparing deep furrows, it is necessary to dig holes for planting 50-80 centimeters wide and 30-40 centimeters deep.

The shrub does not require strong care and takes root well. You just need to remove old trunks, very large branches and large shoots.

After planting, you need to water the pit with 8-10 liters of water. Protect the soil with peat or humus. Reduce the lower part to 10 cm, leaving several buds (4-5 pieces) on the surface.

To plant irga correctly, you need to mix the top layer of earth with 1-2 buckets of fertilizer, add 300-500 grams of superphosphate and 150-200 grams of potassium salt. Pour fertilizer into the planting pit.

A middle-aged Irga is going through a transplant hard, since its roots are very deep. For an old bush (7 or more years old), the diameter of the planting ball should be at least 1.25 meters and a depth of 70 centimeters. The soil needs to be watered well, the soil must be fertilized.

The initial feeding should be carried out using a solution of ammonium nitrate (50 grams per 10 liters of water), introducing it near the trunk. You can also use bird droppings or slurry.

After 5-6 years, irga is fertilized with organic (a couple of buckets per shrub) and inorganic (500 grams of nitrate, 500 grams of potassium salt, 1 kilogram of superphosphate per shrub) substances, replacing them after a year.

It is best to leave only strong stems when pruning at first. After 2-3 years, you can form a bush, which will consist of branches of different ages. Then remove basal and weak stems, shabby and broken off branches.

Propagation by cuttings

In order for the irga to propagate with root cuttings, you need to cut them into 10-15 centimeters, plant vertically, fertilize with humus, water abundantly. Then make sure that the soil is very moist. In the fall, annual plants will appear from the cuttings.

The green root segments are cut in the same way, leaving the branches at the top. This must be done at the beginning of summer, removing the leaves from the cuttings at the bottom, leaving 1-2 pairs on top.

Then, the lower sections must be left for 6 - 12 hours in a root-forming stimulator, rinsed with water after that and planted at an inclination at a distance of 3-4 centimeters in a cooled greenhouse.

Sprinkle the soil with sand for 7-10 centimeters. Subsequently, moisten the ground with a sieve, maintaining a temperature of 25 ℃. Open the greenhouse in 2-3 weeks. After that, the cuttings can be planted on the site, feeding them (30 grams of saltpeter per 1 bucket of water).

Harmful effect on irgu

The main enemies of the irgi are the seed eater and the speckled moth:

  • After the attack of the seed-eater, the irga may stop bearing fruit, because it eats seeds and multiplies in berries.
  • The moth causes the foliage to dry out.

The drugs "Actellin", "Fuafon" and "Karbofoson" can help get rid of pests.

Beneficial features

Irgi berries contain a large amount of vitamins and minerals (vitamins A, C and B, iron, iodine, manganese). They help with diseases of the heart, blood vessels, gastrointestinal tract.

Irgi fruits lower blood pressure and strengthen the walls of blood vessels. Therefore, for people with low blood pressure, the use of irgi is not recommended.
