Is it worth buying a used Renault Duster? Technical characteristics of Renault Duster Which Duster is better: gasoline or diesel

The French presented the new Renault Duster 2020 model year of the second generation, sales of which should begin at the end of 2019. To be more precise, it is already sold under the name Dacia Duster, but for Russia, the crossover has not yet been localized.

On the page all the details about the new Renault Duster body for the 2020 model year, release date in Russia, possible configurations and prices, photos, technical specifications, last news and video test drive.

Duster is one of the best-selling models in today's Renault line, thanks to the fairly successful localization of the production of these budget SUVs.

Factories in Brazil, India, Colombia and Russia satisfy the high demand for similar equipment in their countries, and they have also been given some functions to create modifications specially prepared for local operating conditions.

The 2020 model year Renault Duster SUV is built on the old VO platform, but this did not stop the designers from widening the track and slightly changing the dimensions of the car:

  • length – 4340 mm. (+25 mm to the old version);
  • width – 1830 mm. (+8 mm.);
  • height – 1621 mm. (-4 mm.);
  • ground clearance - 210 mm. (did not change).

The chassis layout remained unchanged with an independent McPherson suspension at the front (coil springs and anti-roll bars) and a semi-independent (for front-wheel drive versions) and multi-link (for all-wheel drive) system at the rear.

The Renault Duster 2020 also uses a standard power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering mechanism and a classic “pair” of brake mechanisms: ventilated discs on the front axle and “drums” on the rear.

Exterior

The new Renault Duster crossover of the 2020 model year has undergone a serious homologation, which included modifications to most body elements.

New bumpers and an enlarged raised hood, chrome parts on the radiator grille and modified geometry of the air intakes, a fifth door extended to the level of the rear pillars and a new two-piece head optics with built-in diode strips, “convex” headlights on the stern with a cross-shaped white “reverse” insert - in the exterior of the car appeared more harmony and integrity, and the design itself began to echo appearance other Renault models.

The new color range deserves special attention: it has not only expanded, but also received more saturated shades from those already used.

Interior

The second generation Renault Duster 2020 received a modified dashboard, as well as a new seat frame with more developed lateral support and the ability to adjust the elements of the lumbar area and the height of the headrests.

In addition, in the “top” equipment configuration, the interior will delight you with high-quality leather upholstery. The steering wheel adjustment parameters have also changed: except for horizontal adjustment with a range of 50 mm. vertical (40 mm) also became available

The finishing materials of the updated Renault Duster 2020 have generally become of higher quality, and the range of options has expanded due to:

  • climate control systems,
  • a set of all-round cameras,
  • keyless entry systems,
  • blind spot monitoring systems,
  • Start buttons to start the engine,
  • relay for automatic switching of headlights, etc.

Folding the backrests of the rear row of seats will increase the volume of the luggage compartment to 1636 liters. The Renault Grand Duster package, already announced by the manufacturer, promises to offer even more space, which will provide 7 seats.

Finally, do not forget about the Duster Oroch - a pickup truck sold on the Brazilian market and in 2020 has every chance of getting acquainted with the Russian market.

Technical stuffing

For the Renault Duster 2020 model year, the developers have prepared a new line of power units, among which there are modernized versions of old engines.

Thus, the 1.5 dCi diesel engines were slightly boosted, adding 5 “power” to each (now the power of such units is at the level of 95 and 115 hp).

The place of the 1.2 TCe petrol engine was taken by the 1.3-liter engine used in the model in two power versions - 130 and 150 hp. With.

French engineers also replaced the naturally aspirated 1.6 SCe, offering as an alternative a completely new three-cylinder 1.0 TСe, which is installed in parallel on the second generation and fourth generation Clio.

In Europe, the new Renault Duster 2020 will be available with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine (130 hp), which will be paired with a CVT.

A less powerful version will be prepared for Russia - 1.5 dCi with a turbocharger (109 hp)

The gasoline liter power plant will be complemented by a simple 5-speed manual transmission capable of transmitting torque only to the front axle.

For all-wheel drive modifications, a two-liter unit with 143 hp is “shown”. s., which can be equipped with both mechanical and automatic transmission.

When will the new Renault Duster be released in Russia?

Europeans, and with them residents of a number of countries identified by the French as the most promising for their updated market model, for example, India, will become acquainted with the new Duster at the end of 2019 - beginning of 2020.

The second generation Renault Duster 2020 will arrive at Russian car showrooms approximately next year, which is explained by the manufacturer’s decision to rely on another model - for which the Moscow Renault plant is already preparing its facilities.

The Renault Duster cannot be considered ideal. But not every SUV is available for purchase for less than 1 million rubles. The equipment for this price is decent for owners. When writing a review of Duster 2.0, we can say that such a car is considered gluttonous. In this case, a diesel engine is suitable, which consumes less fuel and pulls excellently: 6th gear is engaged at a speed of 60 km/h. Consumption is influenced by driving style. Average consumption is 7.0 liters every 100 kilometers. To avoid shifting around the city, you can start from second gear.

First gear is more suitable when driving in mud. But there is a big step between them. Even if during the first the engine runs at high speeds, during the second it may not pull. Its cross-country ability is good. The ground clearance is 21 cm. Driving comfort is felt not only in the city, but also off-road, due to the suspension.

The top-end equipment adds a minimum of comfort to the interior. The steering column cannot be adjusted longitudinally. While driving, you have to sit with your knees bent halfway due to the close location of the steering wheel in the front panel.

The initial stages of the rumble when traveling did not result from the plastic, although it is oak. You can fit a lot of things in the trunk, which is important when traveling and traveling. Controlling the mirrors is problematic due to their location - under the handbrake. But the engine can be started remotely by pre-warming the cabin before landing.

Among the advantages are reasonable cost, excellent sized trunk, comfortable and spacious salon, favorable fuel consumption of diesel engines.

You can't do without downsides. This car has the following:

  • lack of combination of a diesel engine and automatic transmission.
  • low quality of materials used for interior decoration.

Review #2

Previously I used a Logan sedan, which was sold and was not used under the Trade-in program. There is no point in comparing the new Renault Duster, since it is noticeably superior to the old sedan. In addition, in 2015 it underwent an update, which I got.

Together with insurance and additional options, a two-liter crossover with all-wheel drive cost less than 1 million rubles. Additionally, rear parking sensors and an alarm system were installed. As for me, Renault leather is not of quality. So I decided to give it up. The rest is at a high level, well equipped. In addition to cruise control and air conditioning, there are heated front seats along with the ability to warm up the engine before the trip. When writing a review of Duster 2.0, it should be said that the car is equipped with power windows only at the front. The complete set is only available on the next top version.

The car looks comfortable for winter conditions. There is even an additional interior heater, which turns on when the switch is turned to two. Five minutes later the cabin is warm. It is very good that there is a heated fifth point. But it would be better if there was an indicator indicating work.

I am completely satisfied with the dynamics of the crossover. He showed himself with the best side February snows. After running-in, 95 gasoline was consumed in 10 liters on city streets. Most likely, this figure will fall when summer time begins.

Among the advantages are excellent control, interior comfort, a powerful and high-torque engine, and an automatic gearbox.

It is impossible not to touch on the cons. Manufacturers saved on little things by adding them only to top versions. In addition, certain switches and levers are located in an unusual way for a car. Can be broken when stepping on the lever to open the gas tank. And the thresholds are located high, from which your pants get dirty.

Review #3

I give more preference to Renault Duster cars because of their quality and reasonable cost. I used a similar one before, but sold it due to old age. I decided to look at a newer option. In addition, the updated version has many more new options. To ensure comfort and confidence when overtaking cars on the highway, the Duster 2.0 review was compiled specifically for the two-liter engine that I purchased.

The dynamics of the Renault Duster are better with a manual gearbox. I only had to pay extra for standard navigation and a rear view camera. But the price turned out to be acceptable - 15 thousand rubles.

The front seats, which can be adjusted in height, brought convenience to the car. But manufacturers can’t think of a way to adjust the steering wheel longitudinally. New useful things include:

  • Automatic engine start.
  • Heated windshield.
  • Cruise control, especially useful for long trips.

But even the top-end trim does not have climate control, which would be useful at any time of the year. You have to be content with a simple air conditioner.

If you compare the two-liter Duster with the previous 1.6-liter, it’s just heaven and earth. There is always a supply of traction available. Initially I thought that fuel consumption would be huge, but reality showed that in the city no more than 11-12 liters are spent per 100 kilometers. It is also worth noting the quieter operation of the motor, as well as better sound insulation.

Of the six-speed gearbox, the first is used only for off-road use, as it is more gearbox. At a speed of 100 km/h and sixth gear engaged, the engine operates at high speeds. But in general the car is worthy of attention and fully corresponds to the price.

  • Cheap materials are used for finishing.
  • The steering column is not adjustable in the longitudinal direction.
  • No climate control.

Review No. 4

When purchasing, I was looking at a crossover for trips out of town, hunting and fishing. I read the review of Duster 2.0 and decided that I couldn’t do without such a car at an affordable price. But after the acquisition I began to find negative sides.

Noise insulation is low compared to analogues. The sounds quickly end up inside the car. The weak point is the interior. You can even say that when you are in the car you feel like “poor people” from third world countries. The materials used are of low quality, which smacks of low cost and unpleasant odor.

The chairs that were strange to me were the ones I couldn’t adjust to suit myself before last day. In addition, they are characterized by inconvenience and lack of comfort during travel. When traveling, back pain begins to appear.

There were no seals under the hood on the front and sides. I decided to do this myself to save money. I also attached small mirrors to the rear view mirrors. The “dead” zones instantly disappeared, of which there were a sufficient number.

The dynamics are also low. Overtaking became a problem. Throwing is felt at speeds exceeding 100 km/h and driving on poor surfaces. It becomes a little scary because you don’t know how she will behave.

The good side was the cross-country ability. By car you can get to the lake, located in a deep forest. He doesn’t care what’s ahead – sand, black soil, dirt. It breaks through during ascents and descents. I missed the snowy adventures because I bought the car in the spring. In winter, he will have to be tested for professional suitability in this area.

  • Low quality finishing materials.
  • Dynamics.

Advantages:

  • Opportunity self-repair, replacement of some spare parts with cheap analogues.
  • Patency.
  • Pleasant fuel consumption.

Review #5

Looking at the instability of the ruble exchange rate, I decided to profitably invest all my savings - buy a car. After reading the review of Duster 2.0, I set my sights on the two-liter Renault with a power of 135 Horse power. But if the choice had been wider and there was more time, I would have immediately refused to buy such a car.

Despite the maximum equipment of the Luxe Privilege, all materials are of very low quality. Black leather doesn't look real. Plastic squeaks constantly. Even in the cabin, the rear seat back reclined during heavy braking.

Excellent quality only multimedia system. The quality is high, allowing you to watch anything on the screen. You can always find out the road in any direction using the Media Nav navigator.

The driver's seat can be adjusted in height. The steering wheel is height adjustable. Among the options, it is worth highlighting the presence of air conditioning, heated seats, and electric exterior mirrors. However, they are folded only manually. Apart from the audio parking sensors, there is nothing else in the rear.

Decorative sills painted in chrome look stylish. But getting in and out of the car is very problematic. Pants almost always get dirty. If you stand on them, there is a high risk of slipping.

The engine feels comfortable at speeds ranging from 2 to 3 thousand. The gears are very short, which leads to the need for constant jerking when driving around the city. If you make a mistake with the gear shift in traffic jams, the car begins to twitch and make the movement uncomfortable. Other modern cars do not have such negative qualities.

The car handles confidently on the highway. But it’s very difficult to overtake others. It feels like there isn't enough power. At the same time, switching down gears is very inconvenient. It also moves normally on dirt roads. It’s not scary if obstacles suddenly appear under the car, as there is sufficient ground clearance.

Fuel consumption is acceptable. It can be increased to 7 liters on the highway and 10-11 liters within the city. In Moscow and the region, you can meet gas station attendants almost everywhere, which means you don’t have to do anything yourself. But this will not affect the Renault Duster, since the neck lid in it can only be opened and closed with a key. Leave the keys to a stranger I do not want.

  • Compactness.
  • Four-wheel drive.
  • Soft suspension.
  • Great media system.
  • Incomprehensible design.
  • Poor quality of interior trim.
  • Operation of the gearbox.
  • Opening the gas tank cap with a key.

Review No. 6

When looking for an inexpensive one, good crossover, after reading the Duster 2.0 review, I turned my attention to the manufacturer Renault. The two-liter gasoline engine with a power of 135 horsepower showed itself on the good side. This is all combined with all-wheel drive and a manual gearbox.

Engine thrust is sufficient throughout the entire movement. The only drawback in this direction is the transmission. The gears are very short, which creates inconvenience when driving on city streets.

I treat the salon calmly, not being afraid of smearing it or ruining it. You can always find a complete replacement for such a simple option. Sitting is also uncomfortable, since all the levers and switches in the cabin are unclearly located. You constantly have to look for what you need or stretch out. Even the adjustment of the car mirrors is located under the handbrake. By pressing some switches, others are touched. Here the manufacturers have thought through everything very awkwardly. Even the horn was hidden under the steering wheel.

A lot of inconvenience is created when getting into the cabin or getting out of the car. Massive thresholds accumulate dirt, which subsequently ends up on trousers. It is difficult to keep the crossover itself clean. The body is made in such a way that it dirty itself. After slush appears and a couple of meters of movement on it leads to the need to go to the car wash.

The car was painted poorly. Chips began to appear after winter. Cracks also began to appear on the arches, as well as on the A-pillars. From the inside, dust begins to appear in the rear lights. In addition, they sweat when temperature changes.

One of the advantages is controllability. It is suitable for Russian conditions. The car drives better the worse the surface. All potholes and irregularities of the Renault Duster 2.0 fly by with a bang. If we take the class of the car, then compared to its analogues best quality characteristics.

Among the disadvantages are:

  • Problems with manual transmission.
  • The quality of painting of body elements.

There are many more advantages:

  • Excellent traction from a two-liter engine.
  • Increased cross-country ability, which has been tested more than once in forests and through mud.
  • Practical and simple interior.

Review No. 7

From the moment of purchase I was immediately disappointed in the movement of the car. Pressing the gas pedal, he did not try to fly forward. But every thousand kilometers Renault Duster showed itself better and better. Consumption is very good for a crossover. On the highway it takes about 7.0-7.5 liters for every 100 kilometers. City traffic requires about 10.5 liters. The main advantage is that the engine starts automatically. In 30-degree frosts, you don’t have to go outside, but wait until the Duster warms up. But with warm-ups, consumption reaches 12.5-13.0 liters of fuel.

In terms of power, the 2-liter Renault Duster engine produces 135 horsepower with a torque of 195 Nm. As for fuel consumption, you shouldn’t expect less than 10 liters in the city. Another feature of the engine is increased oil consumption. If a liter of oil in the engine decreases over a couple of thousand kilometers, then this is considered normal.

The Renault Duster 2.0 engine shows very good dynamic performance. Thus, acceleration to the first hundred with a 6-speed manual transmission in the 4x4 all-wheel drive version is only 10.4 seconds, and the top speed is 177 km/h. Further details technical specifications Renault Duster 2.0

  • Working volume – 1998 cm3
  • Number of cylinders/valves – 4/16
  • Cylinder diameter – 82.7 mm
  • Piston stroke – 93 mm
  • Power hp – 135 at 5500 rpm
  • Power kW – 99 at 5500 rpm
  • Torque – 195 Nm at 3750 rpm
  • Engine power system – distributed injection with electronic control system
  • Compression ratio – 11.05
  • Timing drive - belt

Today, the two-liter Duster gasoline power unit is installed with both automatic and manual transmissions. Naturally, the dynamics and fuel consumption indicators are different for different combinations of transmission and engine. Below are the characteristics for different combinations of engines and transmissions that are offered in our country.

Front-wheel drive Renault Duster 2.0 automatic transmission 4-speed. 4x2

  • Maximum speed – 168 kilometers per hour
  • Acceleration to the first hundred – 11.2 seconds
  • Fuel consumption in the city – 11.0 liters
  • Fuel consumption in the combined cycle – 8.3 liters
  • Fuel consumption on the highway – 6.7 liters

Four-wheel drive Renault Duster 2.0 automatic transmission 4-speed. 4x4

  • Maximum speed – 172 kilometers per hour
  • Acceleration to the first hundred – 11.7 seconds
  • Fuel consumption in the city – 11.3 liters
  • Fuel consumption in the combined cycle – 8.7 liters
  • Fuel consumption on the highway - 7.2 liters

Four-wheel drive Renault Duster 2.0 manual transmission 6-speed. 4x4

  • Maximum speed – 177 kilometers per hour
  • Acceleration to the first hundred – 10.4 seconds
  • Fuel consumption in the city – 10.3 liters
  • Fuel consumption in the combined cycle – 7.8 liters
  • Fuel consumption on the highway - 6.5 liters

The most interesting thing is that the version with a 2-liter engine and automatic transmission, combined with all-wheel drive, appeared quite recently. All-wheel drive, plus a 4-speed automatic, does not add dynamics to the Renault Duster; this combination is the most voracious among all versions of the budget crossover.

Renault Duster is a fairly common car in Russia. This popular “love” is explained by its affordable price, ease of operation, simplicity of design, high ground clearance and the presence of all-wheel drive in some trim levels.

The undoubted advantage of Duster is its “indestructible” suspension, which feels good both on the road and beyond. All of the above factors make this car a desirable purchase, both in a dealer showroom and on the secondary market.

And if in the showroom the buyer is faced with a choice of only modifications and configurations, then in the second case it is necessary to thoroughly examine the condition of the car.

So what are the weak points of the petrol Renault Duster, what nuances should you pay attention to when buying a used car?

    Engines

Duster is offered to domestic motorists with four gasoline engines:

    F4R petrol engine with a volume of 2.0 liters and 135 hp. (installed on the first generation until 2015);

    F4R petrol engine with a volume of 2.0 liters and 143 hp (began to be installed after restyling);

    K4M petrol engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and 102 hp. (until 2015);

H4M 1.6 petrol engine. liters and 114 hp (engine from Nissan, installed since 2015, produced in the Russian Federation).

Long-term operation of Duster Russian assembly showed that all four engines “digest” domestic fuel well and withstand our operating conditions. Motors that had driven 200 thousand km or more were not known for their oil burn, their power did not decrease significantly. But, of course, there were some minor “jambs”. Let's take a closer look at each engine and its features.

    Motor F4R

It is the most common engine in the line and is popular among Russian motorists. In more than half of the cases, first-generation cars sold were assembled by them (on the territory of the EAEU). The engine is simple in design, previously tested on other Renault models. The cylinder block is made of cast iron, resistant to high temperatures. The cylinder head is made of aluminum, two camshafts, valve clearances are adjusted by hydraulic compensators. Weak points In this internal combustion engine, the crankshaft position sensor and the phase regulator on the intake camshaft are considered to fail after 100 thousand km.

But these are nothing more than rumors. According to dealer service centers in their warehouses, these are the most unclaimed spare parts, both during the warranty and post-warranty periods of operation on cars that have either driven 100,000, or are three or more years old.

Such information has been circulating from mouth to mouth for a very long time, even when 10-12 years ago Renault Megane engines had such problems. Since then, the engines have been modified; the Duster has no such problems.

For those who doubt: listen to a warm engine. If the phase regulator is faulty, the gasoline internal combustion engine will sound like a diesel engine.

In 2015, the phase regulator design was updated again, the exhaust was changed and the electronics were reconfigured, which gave the engine an additional 8 hp, and thus the F4R appeared with 143 hp. As for the real problems, the F4R has a throttle valve routing that, over time, makes the car less likely to start in the cold winter.

There were also complaints about the noise the rollers made additional equipment driven by the timing belt. By the way, it needs to be changed every 60 thousand km; if the belt breaks, this engine has no chance: the valves must meet the pistons.

There are no other problems with this engine. There are problems with the ignition coils and spark plugs, but they arise due to leaking windshield washer nozzles. It is necessary to either replace them or protect the spark plug wells from moisture getting into them. A car with this engine, manual transmission and all-wheel drive consumes a little more than 10 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers in city mode. On the highway, if you drive calmly, you can achieve 7.5 liters. Moreover, the engine is normally powered by 92 gasoline. In the case of an automatic transmission, consumption increases by almost two liters.

    Motor K4M

The 1.6-liter K4M (exact volume - 1598 cm3) produces 102 power. Domestic car enthusiasts consider it not powerful enough for this car. But they are not entirely right. Although the engine power and torque are less than those of a two-liter engine, the transmission of a car with such an internal combustion engine has different gear ratios, and in practice the car drives very briskly, you just need not be afraid to turn the engine up to 4 thousand revolutions.

There is even inside information from one of the engineers who designed the Duster that initially the all-wheel drive version should have been equipped with this more balanced engine. In the EU, this model was previously sold only with it and a diesel engine, but there it was Dacia.

This power unit does not have any typical “sores”, except for the above-described minor problem with the throttle gasket. But it can consume more gasoline than a two-liter one. The engine can easily cover 400-500 thousand km with proper maintenance. The timing belt is replaced every 60 thousand km; the valve clearance is adjusted using hydraulic compensators.

    Motor H4M

This engine from Nissan began to be installed on the Duster in 2015. Displacement - 1.6 liters, power - 114 hp. The engine is not bad, has excellent elasticity. But its block is made of aluminum, which means it cannot be repaired. There are no hydraulic compensators, valve clearances are adjusted using washers, the design of the motor is very simple. Instead of a timing belt, a chain is used, which pleases many. Up to 150 thousand there are no problems with it.

One of the weak points of this internal combustion engine is the need to remove the intake manifold in order to change the spark plugs. And this needs to be done once every 30 thousand mileage, preferably at a service station. The engine is afraid of overheating.

The resource of this power unit is up to 350 thousand km. Fuel consumption: in the city about 9.5 liters, on the highway - a little more than 7. Produced in the Russian Federation.

What to choose is up to the buyer to decide. The option with a two-liter 143-horsepower petrol unit, manual transmission and all-wheel drive looks optimal.

What else is worth paying attention to? When inspecting a Duster on the secondary market, pay attention to the body in the area of the tailgate near the chrome Duster emblem, the edge in the bumper area, and the rear wheel arches (their front part is sandblasted by the wheels). Check to see if the mastic on the back of the roof gutters is cracked or if the paintwork is worn away where it comes into contact with the door seals.

Pay attention to the power steering tube in the area where it is attached to the subframe. If you properly maintain and properly operate the Duster, then it will last 150-170 thousand without causing any problems to the owner. Next, you may have to replace the cardan joints, CV joints, shock absorbers, and CV joints. But nothing lasts forever; these problems are not particularly costly financially.

In general, the car is more than decent and problem-free with proper maintenance.

This car appeared on the Russian market in an era when crossovers were just gaining popularity among buyers. At first he was incredibly popular. A big car for less money is ideal for a Russian driver. At the same time, the car enthusiast was ready to put up with mediocre ergonomics and lack of comfort. The main thing is that the Renault Duster is cheap and is as practical and versatile as possible, so you can go fishing or go on a date.

Which Duster is better: gasoline or diesel?

Pre-restyling crossovers were equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine producing 90 horsepower, a 1.6-liter engine producing 102 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter engine producing 135 horsepower. With. After updating in 2015, the 1.6-liter engine already produced 114 “horses”, the two-liter engine was pumped up to 145 hp. s., and diesel - up to 109 forces. What to choose: Duster with gasoline or diesel? Let's take a closer look at the nuances.

Both 1.6-liter engines are considered to be the best, despite the fact that they are assembled at AvtoVAZ. There are almost no problems with them up to 200 thousand km. On an “old” engine, the timing belt needs to be changed every 60 thousand; ignition coils will often fail. After the update, the need for this repair disappeared. The belt was replaced with a chain, and the coils were also worked on. But after 100 thousand km, oil will begin to leak through gaskets and seals.

A two-liter engine runs for approximately 300 thousand km, but after 150 thousand there is an increased appetite for oil. After the first “hundred” there is a risk that the engine will lose traction and be reluctant to respond to the gas pedal. This is how a failed phase regulator makes itself known. Oxygen sensors and the generator also “fly” after 100 thousand km.

A diesel engine is considered to have a long life if you fill it with high-quality diesel fuel and do not be afraid of inevitable problems with the turbine. If you buy high-quality oil and fill the engine with good fuel, it will last a long time. Renault mechanics believe that this is the best engine in the line.

There are no questions about the manual transmission, but there are a lot of questions about the old automatic transmission that comes with the Duster. Will live automatic transmission no more than 200 thousand km. It will break down often, it will brake mercilessly when changing gears, it will increase the already considerable fuel consumption, and increase the cost of the car.

Buyers have a choice of front-wheel drive Duster or 4x4. Buyers and experts unanimously vote for four-wheel drive. Before the update, the electromagnetic couplings failed, but after the restyling the issue was resolved.

Paintwork on budget cars does not have the appropriate thickness. You need to come to terms with this and take it for granted. But the Duster’s body itself is no different in strength. Because of this, pre-restyling copies were subject to a recall campaign. However, after the update the problem was not fixed.

But the chassis is the main advantage of the model. Essentially, this is the same Logan with an indestructible suspension, only even more practical due to its size.

Dorestyle or restyling?

Renault Duster appeared in 2010, and five years later it was restyled. He talks about what has changed in the model and which version of Duster is better to choose owner of the model Artem Asonov . In 2013, he purchased a pre-restyling Duster, and in 20018 he switched to an updated model.

— The difference in price turned out to be small. The first cost 720 thousand rubles, the second - 816 thousand (I bought it at Trade-In discounts). I like the restyled Duster better. Firstly, the two-liter engine has more “horses” - 145 instead of 135, while the engine “eats” only 10 hp. Secondly, the updated version has improved backlighting. In pre-restyling it was orange, darn it, but now it’s blue. Thirdly, the gear shift knob has been improved. Before, she was like a pin. And the updated Duster has become more dynamic when overtaking. The previous version has front-wheel drive, the updated one has all-wheel drive. In winter, the all-wheel drive Duster drives better on the ruts.

In terms of interior, the models are approximately the same: no better and no worse. The plastic of both versions is of the same quality. But in the second version they clearly saved on fabric. In the first, the backrests of the front seats are upholstered in leatherette. If a child is sitting in the back, the upholstery does not suffer much from kicks. In the second, the fabric quickly gets dirty. The trunk is larger in the first version, since the second version has a spare wheel there. Despite the smaller volume, the trunk can fit three bicycles and a snowboard. The materials in the luggage compartment are worse in the second version. To prevent the cargo from being crushed due to the spare tire, I had to put plywood in the trunk. The floor in the luggage compartment is uneven, making it impossible to sleep comfortably during the trip. The suspension is cool, the car goes smoothly off-road.

As for the technical part, in the pre-restyling Duster, water flowed from the washer nozzles and flooded the ignition coils. To avoid damage to the ECU, both coils and spark plugs had to be replaced. One coil costs 2,000 rubles, and replacing a unit costs 35 thousand rubles. A common drawback of both versions is that windows get covered in dirt in slushy weather. You need to install either larger mudguards or wheel arch extensions. I would also recommend putting a mesh on the grille to prevent midges from getting into the radiator. Another disadvantage is that both versions in the Expression configuration do not have an on-board computer. The automatic transmission is dull, although reliable. When accelerating, there are long gaps between gear changes.

But overall I like the car. Until 100 thousand I did nothing at all. At 105 thousand km I changed the gasket in the automatic transmission, the replacement cost 16 thousand rubles. I have never changed the automatic transmission oil. By 120 thousand km one of the struts began to leak and the thermostat failed. If you buy a car with a mileage of 120 thousand km, I recommend changing the timing belt.

Choosing Duster on the used car market

The average cost of a used Duster is 570 thousand rubles. For 670 thousand rubles we found a 2017 model with a mileage of 150 thousand km:

Which Renault Duster to choose

“Duster” is now almost the best budget offer on the secondary market. There are a lot of examples on the market, but there are few frankly “killed” cars. Spare parts for cars are inexpensive, as they are produced in Tolyatti.

We would say that you need to go with the Duster with a turbocharged diesel engine or choose a 2.0 liter gasoline engine. But the 1.6-liter engine has also proven itself to be reliable and trouble-free. Don't set out to make a choice based on the engine. The 1.6-liter engine is simpler and therefore more budget-friendly, but the turbocharged diesel engine is more interesting to drive.

Give up the automatic transmission, it's so bad that it's better to go with a manual transmission. Take the all-wheel drive version: the car will be able to drive further and deeper. Better take a look at the restyled copy. The update was successful and we managed to get rid of most of the minor problems.
