The problem of energy saving is relevant in many countries, Russia is no exception in this regard. In our country, a large amount of generated energy is spent on heating and ventilation of buildings. Unfortunately, this figure is much higher than in many developed countries, despite the constantly growing cost of energy resources.

In order to save on batteries, thermostats are installed, with their help, the cost of maintaining heat in the room is reduced by 25%. However, for greater efficiency, it is necessary to choose the right device for a specific heating system and carry out its installation. In addition, it is worthwhile to study in detail the instructions on how to properly install the thermal head on the radiator.

You can regulate the temperature using a thermal head for a heating radiator.

The first thermostats for installation on heating radiators were produced by DANFOSS in the middle of the 20th century, and already at the end of the same century, the devices underwent modernization and became more accurate.

The device consists of a valve and a thermal head connected by a special locking mechanism. The principle of operation of a thermal head for a heating radiator is to measure and analyze the temperature in the battery and adjust it using a valve that blocks the flow of the coolant.

Options for adjusting the heating radiator with a thermal head

Adjustment can be of two types: quantitative and qualitative.

The principle of the first method is to change the temperature by changing the amount of coolant passing through the radiator.

The second method involves changing the temperature of the water directly in the system. For this, a mixing unit with a siphon filled with a heat-sensitive medium is installed in the boiler room. This medium can be liquid or gas-filled.

The version with a liquid medium is easy to manufacture, but it acts slower than a gas one. The essence of both options is as follows: when heated, the working medium expands, which leads to the stretching of the siphon. As a result, a special cone moves inside it and reduces the size of the valve section. This leads to a decrease in the flow rate of the coolant. When the air in the room is cooled, the process proceeds in the reverse order.

Thermostatic head selection rules

You need to choose a device taking into account the characteristics of the heating system and its installation. Based on this, a valve and thermostatic head for radiators are used to control the temperature. Moreover, they can be combined in different versions.

For example, for one-pipe systems, it is better to use valves with a high flow capacity. Similar elements are suitable for two-pipe systems with natural circulation working environment. For two-pipe systems with forced movement of the coolant, the best option would be to install a thermal head on the radiators, which allows you to adjust the throughput.

The choice of a thermal head for a radiator should also be approached responsibly. The most common are the following options:

  • With a thermocouple installed inside.
  • Programmable.
  • With external temperature sensor.
  • Anti-vandal.
  • With external regulator.

The classic option is a thermostat that has an internal sensor and is located horizontally. It is not recommended to connect the thermal head to the radiator in a vertical position. In this case, the rising heat can cause the thermostat to malfunction.

If it is not possible to perform horizontal installation of the thermal head on the heating radiator, then an external sensor with a special capillary tube is additionally mounted.

Remote temperature sensor

The use of an external sensor is necessary in several more cases:

  • Heating radiators with a thermostat are closed with blackout curtains.
  • An additional source of thermal energy is located in the immediate vicinity.
  • The battery is located under a large windowsill.

Sometimes heating radiators are covered with decorative screens. This situation is observed in rooms with increased requirements for the interior. In this case, the internal thermostat only registers the temperature behind the decorative trim. In addition, access to the thermal head becomes difficult. To solve the problem, a thermal head is installed for a heating radiator with an external sensor.

As for the programmable devices, they are equipped with displays for visual control and are also divided into two types. Some of them are equipped with a built-in control unit, while others have this element removable. The second option has some advantage: the disconnected control unit continues to operate as before. At the same time, it is important to control how the thermal head on the heating radiator works.

Such models allow you to adjust the temperature individually for a specific situation. For example, during the day, you can decrease the temperature values, and at night, increase it. As a result, the savings are quite serious.

Vandal-proof devices are ideal for homes where there are small children who touch and twist everything. Therefore, it is important to know and understand how to install the thermostatic head on a radiator. Thermoregulators of this type do not allow you to knock down the settings if handled carelessly. It is also used in public buildings, including kindergartens and hospitals.

Rules for installing the control valve

As mentioned above, the greatest efficiency is achieved when the thermo faucet is installed horizontally on the radiator.

The thermal head is installed according to special rules, according to which adjustment is necessary only for powerful radiators. Therefore, do not equip every battery in a residential area with this device. The greatest efficiency can be achieved by installing the thermostat on the most powerful heating element available in the room.

It is not recommended to install a faucet with a thermal head for a radiator on cast-iron radiators, this will not give the desired effect. The reason for this is the inertness of cast iron batteries, as a result of which there is a long adjustment delay. Consequently, the installation of a thermal head in this case makes no sense.

The best option is to install a valve on the supply pipe while connecting the battery to the system. Otherwise, it is necessary to insert the device into the finished system. For this purpose, the individual elements of the heating circuit are dismantled and the pipes are cut, previously shutting off the tap. Box in metal pipes to do it is quite problematic, therefore it is necessary to study the instructions on how to install a thermal head on a heating radiator.

After completing the installation of the thermostat, it is necessary to fix the thermal head. This process is not particularly difficult and is as follows:

  • On the body of both elements there are corresponding marks that must be aligned.
  • To fix the thermal head, you need to slightly press the device.
  • A dull click will indicate the correct position and installation in place.

Vandal-proof thermostats are more difficult to install. In this case, to solve the problem of how to install the thermal head on the radiator, you need a 2 mm hex key.

The work proceeds in the following order:

  • Using dowels, a plate is attached to the wall.
  • The body of the device is fixed on the plate.
  • The capillary tube is fixed to the wall by means of clamps.
  • Install a valve with a thermal head for radiators, aligning the marks, and press it against the main body.
  • Tighten the fixing bolt with a hex wrench.

With the help of thermostats, you can not only regulate the temperature, limit pins on the back of the device allow you to set the lowest and highest value. In this case, the wheel will not turn beyond the set limits.

The choice of the optimal version of the thermostatic head for the radiator is not particularly difficult. The main condition is that the option must correspond to the heating system, regardless of whether it is at the design stage or is already assembled. In addition, you should take into account the features of the installation of each type of thermostats. According to experts with many years of experience, programmable devices allow the maximum benefit and savings.

Thermostat setting - how to set it up correctly

To control heat transfer, a special device is used - a thermostat for heating batteries.

It is installed on radiators and allows you to adjust their temperature. The thermostats have two nuances - firstly, they cannot be used with cast-iron batteries, and secondly, the thermostat can only be changed within the limits of the heating system's capacity, i.e.

raising the temperature will not work. This article will consider thermostats for heating batteries.

Thermostat device

The design of the thermostat for heating batteries includes two elements - a thermal valve and a thermostatic head. Both elements have several parameters that allow you to select parts depending on the size of the pipes and the type of heating system on which they will be installed.

The adjustable thermostat for heating is made in a removable format, and different heads can be installed on the same valve, which is ensured by the standardization of the seat.

Given the variety of valves and regulators, you need to consider their features in more detail before putting a heat regulator on the battery.

Differences and purpose of the thermal valve

Structurally, a thermostatic valve for a heating radiator is very much like a standard valve. The thermal valve device includes a seat and a shut-off cone that allows you to open or close the lumen through which the coolant moves. It is this principle that underlies the operation of the valve - by adjusting the amount of coolant, you can influence the heat transfer of the radiator.

Valves installed on one-pipe and two-pipe distribution have some differences:

  • Thermostatic valve for radiators of a one-pipe system has a lower hydraulic resistance (usually a two-fold difference in this value), which allows the system to be balanced;
  • In systems with natural circulation of the coolant, the same valves are usually installed as for one-pipe systems - the hydraulic resistance will increase as a result, but the failure of the system will not follow;
  • For two-pipe heating, accordingly, valves with increased hydraulic resistance are used.

Using the wrong type of valve will simply prevent the system from providing heat transfer, so later you will have to think about how to remove the thermostat from the battery.

In addition, the selected valve must be installed correctly - on each such device there is a small arrow indicating the direction of the coolant flow.

The following materials can be used for the manufacture of valves:

  • Chrome and nickel plated bronze;
  • Nickel plated brass;
  • Stainless steel.

All these metals are protected from corrosion, which is why they are used in heating systems. The most profitable option is stainless steel - it perfectly withstands the given operating conditions.

The only disadvantage of stainless steel valves is their high cost.

Brass and bronze valves are more common and readily available, and their lifespan is nearly the same.

When choosing such valves, you should pay attention to the manufacturer - companies with a good reputation monitor the quality of the alloys used, in contrast to unknown companies that produce products of frankly dubious quality.

The last difference between the valves is the type of execution.

There are straight and angle valves, and the selection of the appropriate type is made depending on how the radiators are installed in the system.

Types of thermostatic valves for heating radiators

In thermostats, three types of thermostatic heads can be used:

  • Manual;
  • Mechanical;
  • Electronic.

Any heat regulator for a battery is used to solve the same problems, but there are quite a few differences in their use, so it is worth considering each of them in more detail.

Manual heads

The manually operated thermostatic heads, according to the principle of operation, completely repeat a conventional tap - turning the regulator directly affects the amount of heat carrier passing through the device.

Typically, these regulators are installed on both sides of the radiator instead of ball valves. The temperature of the coolant is changed manually.

Manual thermostatic heads are the simplest and most reliable devices, which are primarily distinguished by their low cost. There is only one drawback - you have to adjust the thermostatic valve of the radiators in manual mode, focusing only on the sensations.

Mechanical heat regulators on the battery

This type of head differs from the previous ones in that it already has the ability to adjust the temperature in automatic mode.

The main structural element is a bellows - an elastic cylindrical element filled with a temperature agent. A thermal agent is a liquid or gas with a high coefficient of thermal expansion.

The process of temperature control when using a mechanical regulator is as follows:

  • The bellows supports the stem, which closes the valve lumen;
  • With an increase in the temperature of the substance in the bellows, pressure begins on the rod, and it gradually drops, closing the flow area;
  • The volume of the coolant passing through the radiator decreases, which provokes its cooling;
  • The thermal agent also cools down and returns to its original state, raising the stem;
  • When the stem is raised, the coolant again enters the radiator in full, and after that the cycle is repeated.

Gas or liquid can be used as a temperature agent, depending on which two types of bellows are distinguished:

  1. Gas.

    They are characterized by a higher reaction rate to temperature changes, but are much more difficult to manufacture.

  2. Liquid... The fluid changes its volume a little more slowly, but such a bellows is easier to create.

Considering that when using any regulator, the temperature is maintained within 1 degree, then this parameter has practically no effect on the choice.

More importantly, fluid regulators are more readily available and are therefore used much more frequently.

Mechanical thermostatic heads are installed towards the center of the room - this arrangement will increase the accuracy of temperature measurement.

Of course, due to the large size, it is not always possible to install the head in this way, and remote sensors are perfect for these situations.

The remote sensor is connected to the regulator through a small tube, which will transmit information about temperature changes at a selected point in the room to the device.

With such control, a high accuracy of maintaining the temperature regime is achieved, but remote sensors have a noticeable drawback - they are quite expensive.

Electronic regulators

The last type of thermostats is electronic. Such heat regulators for radiators have the largest size, so in some situations you will have to tinker with their placement.

In addition to the electronic elements directly, such regulators also require power (for standard products, two small batteries are usually enough).

All actions of the stem in the valve are controlled by a microprocessor located in the regulator - and electronic products always have maximum control accuracy and some additional features.

One of the most popular options is the ability to adjust the heat output of radiators depending on the time of day. For example, an electronic thermostat for a heating radiator can be configured so that at night the temperature drops by a few degrees for a more comfortable sleep, and during the day it returns to its original value.

Of the advantages of electronic thermostats, one can note extremely accurate control and the presence of additional capabilities. Disadvantages - pretty large sizes, high cost and the need to periodically change batteries (however, usually a pair of batteries is enough for several years of uninterrupted service of the regulator).

Valve installation

Thermostats can be installed both at the inlet of the radiator and at the outlet - this will not affect the efficiency of the device.

However, before installing the device, you need to know how the thermostat works on the battery, and study a number of parameters that affect the functionality and performance of the device.

In particular, when installing, you need to think about the height at which the device will be located - this parameter is one of the main characteristics of thermostats. All devices of this type are configured at the factory, and this process is carried out with the expectation that the thermostat will be connected to the upper radiator manifold - and this is a height of about 60-80 cm above the floor level.

Of course, this option cannot be used if the radiators were installed using the bottom connection method. To solve this problem, there are three solutions - find a valve for radiators with a thermostat mounted from below, install an external sensor, or independently make settings for the thermostatic head.

Thermostat for a heating radiator working principle

Adjusting the regulator is not particularly difficult, and the technology of this process is usually described in the documentation attached to the device.

The thermostat is installed on the battery according to the standard technology - under the thread on the valve, you need to select the appropriate fittings, or simply cut a suitable thread on the pipe itself.

The main thing is to think over these nuances before installing the thermostat on heating batteries.

A special point is the question of how to properly install the thermostat on a battery in an apartment building. With one-pipe wiring, a bypass will be a mandatory element of the system - a structural element located before the battery and connecting two pipes to each other. In the absence of a bypass, a very unpleasant moment will turn out - the thermostat will change the temperature of the entire riser.

Of course, this is not the goal pursued by the installation of a thermostat, and the amount of a possible fine for such an effect on heating is very significant.

Thermostat setting - how to set it up correctly

As mentioned above, each thermostat goes through a factory setting step. Of course, such a device can be used immediately after installation, but its parameters will most likely not correspond to the desired ones.

Of course, in this case, you need to tune the regulator. Before adjusting the thermostat, you need to start the heating system and hang the thermometer at the point in the room where its temperature will be measured.

The setup process boils down to the following operations:

  1. Doors and windows to the premises must be closed. The thermostat head is set to the position corresponding to the full opening of the lumen.
  2. When the regulator is closed, the battery will gradually cool down.

    At some point, the room temperature will reach the seemingly most comfortable level. It is at this stage that you need to start turning gradually so that the coolant gradually enters the radiator. When the noise of the coolant comes from the heater, and the radiator starts to warm up, you need to stop and remember in what position the regulator is in this moment... That's all - in order to create the desired temperature in the room, it will be enough to set the thermostat in this position.

The batteries can be adjusted several times - for example, at different times of the year.

Having memorized all the positions of the regulator, the process of each subsequent adjustment can be simplified to the limit.

Conclusion

A thermostat for a heating radiator is an important element of the heating system, which allows you to adjust the heat transfer of the batteries on an individual basis. The choice and installation of thermostats is not particularly difficult, therefore, by competently approaching these issues, it is quite possible to do all the work with your own hands.

Warm floors are now not only a dream.

Currently, their installation does not require a lot of labor and money. Warm floors have solved many problems associated with space heating. They especially delight families with small children and grandchildren, as well as those who like to walk barefoot on the bare floor.

It is even better if the temperature level in the house or apartment can be regulated.

It is necessary to lower the heating temperature in the heating system in winter in many situations: during the day, when the sun actively penetrates through the windows, at night, so that it is not hot to sleep.

In the daytime, while the household is at work and at school, you can save money and not drown too much. On frosty evenings, on the contrary, you need to raise the temperature level of the coolants in the heating system so that the room warms up.

Thermostats for water heating help to do this easily and quickly, even without human intervention.

How is the regulation of underfloor heating

If the house or apartment is not large, the region of residence is southern, warm floors can be left as the main source of heating. In other cases, it is made as a nice addition to make life more comfortable.

For example, in the children's room, in the bathroom or in the kitchen, in the work area. The thing is that it is impossible to make the floor very hot for obvious reason. If it is minus 40 degrees outside the window, the heating system should be more powerful.

It is very convenient to have floors whose heating level is controlled.

There are many devices for adjusting the temperature of the warm floor. Their work is based on a single principle.

Heating circuits are controlled individually, through the arrangement of special collectors that bring together the inputs and outputs of the heating system:

The temperature sensor for a water-heated floor signals the thermostat that the temperature in the room (or on the floor surface) has increased.

The chain includes a servo drive that controls the valves. Having received the appropriate signal from the thermostat, it lets a new batch into the system. hot water... Or, on the contrary, it will block its movement if the thermostat gives a signal that the room has become hot.

The thermal valve for a water-heated floor helps to regulate the flow of the heat carrier. To pump water, a pump must be installed.

So, to control the temperature indicators of warm floors, you need:

  • collector, where all circuits are reduced;
  • thermostat;
  • thermal sensor;
  • a servo drive that controls valves;
  • pump for pumping water.

All this together makes it possible to make the heating system automated.

This is not a simple convenience, but energy savings. The thermostats can be set so that in the absence of people, the heating of the room will be reduced.

How to choose a thermostat for heating radiators

The machines allow you to save 30 to 40 percent of the volume of energy carriers. Moreover, this will not affect the living conditions of people, on the contrary, it will make it more comfortable to stay in an apartment or house.

In order to increase the safety of the devices operation, the installation of safety valves and protective fittings against voltage surges in electrical network and overheating of electrical equipment.

What thermostats can control

Modern thermostats for a water heated floor can control the following indicators:

  • indoor air temperature;
  • floor heating level;
  • combine air and floor temperature control.

To control the air temperature in the room, sensors are built into the thermostat housing.

They set it up specifically to take into account the level of indicators in a controlled room. This control is only effective inside buildings that are well insulated and heat losses are minimized. If this condition is not met, it is not cost-effective to install a room temperature control sensor.

If it is necessary to control the heating of the surface of the floor covering, the temperature sensor of the water heated floor is installed as close as possible to the heating circuit.

Such a system is effective when the warm floor serves as an additional heating of the room. The temperature regime of the air is established by the main sources of heat.

A thermostat for a water-heated floor with a combined control system is rarely used in separate modern heating circuits. It can simultaneously control the level of heating of the floor and the air, or, at choice, one thing.

Types of thermostats by design and installation method

When the question arises of how to regulate the temperature of a water-heated floor, in the variety of different types of thermostats, you need to orient yourself correctly.

Despite the fact that they perform the same function, the additional features are different, and, accordingly, the price.

Devices that are produced by manufacturers can be divided into five groups according to the complexity of the design:

  1. mechanical;
  2. remote sensory;
  3. ordinary electronic;
  4. programmable thermostats;
  5. radio controlled.

The reliability of the models does not depend on the design, but on the conscientiousness of the manufacturer and the operating conditions.

According to the method of installation, thermostats are:

  • conventional wall-mounted, which are mounted in every room and are suitable for small apartments;
  • panel, allowing from one point to control the process in a large building.

Each of these methods makes it possible to conveniently operate the temperature control system.

Mechanical type

Mechanical thermostats for a water heated floor are the simplest models, reminiscent of devices for adjusting the cold in refrigerators. They are inexpensive, easy to maintain. The temperature regime is selected by turning the thermometer head. A special mark is aligned with the desired number on the gradation scale. If something is set incorrectly, everything can be easily corrected.

There are models where a toggle switch is installed to completely turn off / turn on the system. There are mechanical thermostats with a timer. It allows you to set a certain period of time during which the heated floors will be turned on.

The only drawback is the need for constant temperature control, changing the indicators is possible only manually. They do not have any electronics that can distribute the temperature level over time.

You should be aware that there are low-quality specimens that do not accurately reflect the temperature.

Then carry out control taking into account the difference.

Sensor thermo valves with control panel

Temperature control of water heated floors can be carried out using sensor models that are controlled remotely using a remote control.

The devices have a modern, easy-to-use touch panel. It displays all the current information about the temperature regime, including a warning about the presence of some kind of failure in the system.

The attractiveness of such structures is not only in their "remote" maintenance, but also in the fact that they can regulate several circuits at once.

It is for such complex systems that sensor models controlled by a remote control are most often used. A thermostat from a reliable manufacturer will last a long time.

Conventional electronic thermostats for water floor heating

Some consumers prefer to install conventional electronic thermostats in their home.

They practically do not differ from touchscreens with remote control. An electronic board and buttons are located on the plastic panel. With their help, the required temperature regime is set, which can change several times per day.

It is not difficult to figure out the settings of such a device on your own.

The design is an order of magnitude higher than that of a mechanical type thermostat for a warm water floor.

"Smart" programmable thermostats

Devices that themselves can change the temperature level in the room in the absence of people are much more complex, but the savings from their use are enormous.

The costs of their purchase and installation will pay off in the very first winter season. We are talking about programmable thermostats. They can serve several circuits at the same time.

It is possible to connect to the "smart home" system.

The programmable thermostat solves many problems with heating, provides a comfortable stay in the room.

Allows you to set specific days, hours and weeks to a given temperature. Therefore, even in the absence of the owners, he himself will transfer the heating system to economy mode. All information about its work is shown on the display.

Only a specially trained technician can install them. This equipment is expensive, requires careful attitude to itself, but it fully justifies itself.

Wireless radio controlled thermostats

Even more expensive than electronic programmable thermostats, radio thermostats are rarely installed. Used in homes where it is decided not to use electrical cables.

Servo commands are sent using radio signals. It happens in the following way. The signal from the sensors for the water underfloor heating goes to the radio thermostat. He redirects them to the radio controller. The radio signal chain leads to the hot water dispenser.

The price of such equipment is high due to the fact that receivers and transmitters are installed at each stage of radio signal transmission.

Repairing such a system if it fails is costly.

How to decide on the choice of thermostat for regulation

The first thing that pays attention to when it comes to a comfortable stay in an apartment or house is the air temperature in the room. Whatever the interior, the heating method and all the associated consequences are more important.

If the room is evenly heated, there are no damp floors, corners and nooks with cold drafts, it is pleasant to be in the room. Thermostat for underfloor heating with a remote sensor allows you to achieve a comfortable temperature level in each room separately. However, it is not advisable to buy a mechanical thermostat for such purposes.

He does not have the ability to control the temperature regime in several rooms at the same time.

Before buying a thermostat, you need to think about what kind of temperature control problems this device will solve. If there is a need to regulate the heat in the absence of the owners, a programmable thermostat will perfectly cope with this task.

When family members cannot decide on the general temperature regime in the house, a multi-channel electronic thermostat will help, which, using sensors installed in different rooms, will regulate the heat level.

The most inexpensive and easy-to-use mechanical thermostat will help maintain the desired temperature level in a small apartment.

When choosing a thermostat, it is imperative to know its power.

It must match the capacity of the underfloor heating system.

Different types of room thermostats for water underfloor heating are designed for heating systems with certain technical characteristics and heat-saving characteristics of buildings, the climate of a given region. The wishes of the consumer are taken into account. So, for example, in different models and manufacturers differ in the interfaces with which it is convenient to monitor the operation of the device.

Before performing the installation, you need to familiarize yourself with the instructions and connection diagram. It is shown on the back of the case. If the connection order is violated, the device will be damaged.

Therefore, at this stage, the correct connection is very important, which determines how effectively the entire self-regulatory system will work. Of course, it is also important how competently the installation of the contours of the warm floor was made.

Note that the servo has a double-rotating motor. It rotates clockwise or in reverse side depending on the signal that the thermostat gives it. In this case, the valve increases or makes less clearance in the pipe through which the coolant flows.

The thermostats should be located close to electrical outlets, at a height of 0.5 to 1 meter from the floor.

If the family has a small child, then the device must be fixed higher. This is especially true of programmable electronic models that can be easily disabled by inept handling.

The equipment operates on a 220 V network (except for radio-controlled ones).

All devices must be connected to the mains in accordance with the rules for electrical installations.

Installing a thermostat on a heating radiator

A radiator thermostat (also known as a thermostat) is needed in order to regulate the amount of heat-transfer fluid entering the radiator, and thereby the amount of heat given off by the radiator to the room.

Heating thermostat diagram.

But you can regulate the temperature in the same way using a conventional tap.

Installing a valve in the heating system in front of the radiator also makes it possible to regulate the amount of fluid passing through. However, one of the family members will have to monitor the temperature, turn the taps near each battery on time and by a certain amount (much more than 2 times a day), otherwise there will again be a lack of comfort and temperature jumps.

If you are going to settle down with comfort, then an automatic thermostat is necessary.

What do you need to install a thermostat?

Tool: to disconnect the radiator from the heating network - a grinder, for threading - a watering can. And a welding machine, if there is a need to change the heating circuit.

Consumables: sanitary linen, paint.

Preparatory steps: turn off the heating on the riser, drain the water.

Correct installation: just 4 steps

Radiator preparation. The radiator is disconnected from the heating system, the remaining water is drained. If there was a tap (valve), it is also removed.

We must install a bypass (jumper pipe) on a one-pipe system so that the coolant circulates even when the battery is disconnected.

The type of thermostats.

The thermostat is installed using a threaded connection, the thread is sealed with sanitary flax soaked in paint. The regulator is screwed into the radiator hole through which the coolant flows. It doesn't take much effort to avoid damaging the fragile brass body. An arrow is marked on the valve body, the direction of which must coincide with the direction of the flow of the coolant.

The thermostatic element (it measures the temperature in the room and controls the locking mechanism) must be installed horizontally, the quality of the regulator depends on it.

Thermostat for a heating radiator

A temperature sensor is installed in this element, which should not be affected by the heat of the battery. If horizontal installation is impossible or does not look aesthetically pleasing, you can choose a regulator with a remote sensor, which can be remote at a distance of 2 m or more.

Rules for placing the temperature sensor of the regulator

  1. The distance to the floor is at least 80 cm, since it is always colder below.
  2. Away from the rising currents of warm air, both from the battery and from household appliances.
  3. Out of direct sunlight.
  4. In this case, the sensor should be in the path of air flows in the room, that is, it should not be covered by a curtain, screen or furniture.
  5. Installation of the external thermal sensor is carried out by fixing it to the wall with brackets.

Setting up and preparing for operation. When starting the heating for the first time, it is necessary to calibrate and adjust the thermostats. The setting is carried out according to the instructions for a specific device, there is only one general rule - they start setting after all the heating devices are evenly heated to maximum temperature.

Benefits of using temperature controllers

In addition to comfort and maintaining the desired temperature in the room, the factor of saving thermal energy is important.

And, if you need to install a heat energy meter in apartments connected to centralized heating, then when using individual heating, savings will be expressed in a decrease in energy consumption (by about 20%). If you are just planning to install heating, it would be wise to install a radiator with a built-in thermostat. The presence of thermostats will allow you to save money with comfort.

Many modern engineering solutions allow economical use of energy sources.

A special place in this series belongs to the warm bottom thermostat with a temperature sensor. With the help of such a system, it is possible to control the heating of the soil and air in the room.

To use them, it is not difficult for consumers to select the models that best suit them.

Someone likes regulators that allow you to set the desired temperature one week in advance, while others choose the simplest mechanical ones.

How can I choose when choosing a temperature controller?

There seems to be no problem when choosing a temperature controller for underfloor heating. Its function is clear to everyone: switching the floor heating on and off and therefore saving energy. In addition, thanks to the smart device, pressure overheating is prevented, which can lead to a failure of the heating system or deformation of the floor covering.

The first and most important thing to consider when buying a temperature controller is its capacity. It must connect with the power of the warm floor.

Depending on the design of the device, it may have special functions:

  1. Models that can reduce underfloor heating when homeowners are away.

    Thus, they provide significant cost savings for the economical use of electricity.

  2. Programmable devices in which you can define the task of heating a building at any time with different intensities. The assigned tasks are transferred from the timer to the thermostat, setting the desired temperature.
  3. There are especially smart models where you can program complex tasks with heating time and savings.

    The thermostat recognizes various external factors and works with nested settings.

  4. There are devices that use a built-in sensor. The floor and heating elements are protected from overheating. For example, laminate flooring to prevent the emission of harmful substances cannot heat up above 260 degrees.

When choosing a thermostat, the area of the room must be taken into account. For example, a small room does not need a complex programmable device. But big houses just require thermostats.

Advice. Thermostats solve the problem of adapting different temperature conditions in separate rooms.

This is especially true for a large family with more generations.

Mechanical thermostats

The simplest and most excellent control of heating temperature is a mechanical thermostat for underfloor heating.

A rotary regulator with a rock in a circle is located on its plate. The device is switched on and off with a key.

No electronics. Don't eat electricity. Some models are equipped with indicator lights that allow you to determine the status of the heating system.

There are also models of mechanical regulators with timers. With their help, you can set the time period for underfloor heating.

The temperature sensor principle is based on the special properties of gases and bimetallic elements that change shape and volume under the influence of temperature.

Thus, electrical circuit closes and opens at the right time. The temperature of the heating elements is not currently monitored.

To better understand the structure of a mechanical temperature controller, many compare the principle of their operation with conventional iron, where the preset heating temperature is simply set and then maintained. Whenever you can change the temperature. As a rule, each home owner chooses the most comfortable temperature level in the rooms.

When the mechanical thermostat is on, it will maintain the set temperature.

Features of electronic thermostats

Very popular are very unprogrammed electronic thermostats for warm floors. The temperature regime is controlled by half.

The LCD displays information about the current temperatures for floor heating and air heating and is set. The panel displays a special icon indicating that the system is currently on.

Using an electronic floor temperature controller, you can identify a problem in the system. All of these features are very useful because they allow you to take timely action to remedy the situation.

With their help, you can change the operating cycles of the warm floor.

Their function is performed by the time the heating floor is disconnected from the network. With electronic devices, you can save about 30 percent on electricity.

What thermostats can program

The choice of a warm bottom thermostat is of particular importance when it comes about large areas.

His help in saving energy is especially noticeable. Thanks to cable and foil underfloor heating, you can successfully combine a programmable thermostat.

Heat head for heating radiator

The principle of its setting is very similar to the usual electronic one, but there is one important advantage: it can be "confused" with working in accordance with the calendar. In fact, it looks like this: for each day of the week, the thermostat will have a specific task.

An example of "simple" tasks. On Saturday and Sunday, when the whole family is at home, the device can provide heating for the entire room at 25 degrees. But from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00 no one will be at home, and the temperature can be reduced to 17 degrees.

The tasks can be challenging. With this warm heat, you can save about 70 percent of your electricity. All procedures for setting the temperature mode will be automatically after the corresponding setting. This cycle is repeated until the settings are changed.

Selection Criteria for Infrared Warm Bottom Thermostat

Infrared underfloor heating almost always has a set of thermostats.

If not, then they should be selected individually. In fact, all indoor appliances are rated at 3 to 3.5 kW at 16 amps.

When the heating zones are very large, the underfloor heating is built into the units, and each unit is an autonomous control system.

Temperature controllers are equipped with temperature sensors. There are two:

  • internal (measurement of soil temperature);
  • external (indoor air heating control).

When purchasing a thermostat, it is necessary to determine the maximum power of the floor bottom in order to prevent malfunction of the device.

The size of the thermostat selection has the installation type:

  • accounts;
  • built into the wall.

Advice. The most reliable is the thermostat for electric underfloor heating, which is equipped with an internal and external temperature sensor.

Thermostats differ in project implementation.

Thus, you can find devices with the same capabilities, but they are more suitable in the interior of the room.

Great value is price. Of course, complex programmers are much more expensive. However, in many cases, when it comes to large homes where family members are active, these thermostats help save money on energy costs.

There is one more point to consider. When it comes to a thermostat for controlling warm infrared soils used as the main heating source, temperature and floor sensors as well as air must be placed in the room.

If you are using underfloor heating in addition to a basic heating system, one sensor can also be reached from the floor.

How to install the thermostat correctly

Detailed instructions for use are attached to the devices. Specify how to remove the bezel correctly, and in what order. You should consider this unlimited in order not to damage your device. Do not install thermostats in damp rooms. Therefore, if the underfloor heating is installed in the bathroom, the thermostat must be installed outdoors.

For built-in models, insert the mounting block there before making a hole in the wall.

Important! Before installing and connecting the thermostat, you should always disconnect the power supply at home.

The order of the links is as follows:

  • Route the power wires to the terminal box first.
  • The temperature sensor is connected between the thermostat and the heating element. A corrugated tube is used to package the sensor wires.
  • Connect the wires to the regulator according to the wiring diagram marked on the device.
  • "Zero" and "phase" are connected to the corresponding terminals or wires of the sensor in separate sockets marked by the sensor.
  • Place the device carefully into the sleeve.

And after that, the control panel can be installed and fixed with screws.

The device must be installed strictly in accordance with the level.

Important! Please note that it is not possible to install a thermostat recess for fire safety in built-in timber houses.

How to install a thermostat?

Before buying a thermostat. It is necessary to decide which operating mode is better: manual or automatic? This is important for further adaptation and adaptation. Sometimes the choice stops with a conventional mechanical one.

But usually he has to electronically set the hours and days of the week and make other settings listed in the manual. By pressing the "up" and "down" keys at the same time, you can set the child lock function so that they cannot reduce the configured operating mode of the device. Unlocking occurs in the same way.

The installation of a thermostat depends on its function and design capabilities. In electronic form (both touch and key) you can understand yourself. But to install complex programmable thermostats, you need a specialist who understands these settings.

Modern models of thermostats are available with a liquid crystal display, less often with a touchscreen. The thermostat is designed to control the air temperature in the room and to control the heating system with the possibility of programming the operating modes for every day. The thermostat usually works in conjunction with an external temperature sensor or a remote sensor installed inside or near the heating system.

For example, if these are floor heating systems, then the sensor is installed in the floor. With this design of the control device, the thermostat does not register the air temperature, but the temperature of the space around the sensor, for example, the floor surface. Together with an external sensor, an internal sensor is supplied to the thermostat, designed directly for monitoring the air temperature.

So, a thermostat with two sensors allows you to control the temperature of both the heating system and the air.

Consider the standard temperature controller menu offered by the manufacturer.

Thermostat for a heating radiator.

The thermostat function selection option allows you to check the temperature of the external sensor and enter the device settings mode. These calls are the most frequent, so access to them is maximally simplified. The thermostat allows you to quickly, with one button, increase or decrease the temperature value manually, or change its fixed value for operation in automatic heating mode.

The power on / off button usually functions for its intended purpose, but some models can also use it to activate the thermal protection mode.

Heating mode in thermostats can be set by the user, or used by default, depending on the factory settings. A number of models of thermostats allow you to change the factory settings of the temperature value for each of the daytime periods: morning, afternoon, evening, night.

Most often, manufacturers offer three operating periods for the system: Monday-Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are four constant temperature heating programs for each time period.

For example, from 9 am to noon, the heating system operates at a temperature of 16 ° C, and in the afternoon until evening - 18 ° C. Customizing the thermostat for weekly operation begins with the selection of the day of the week.

Next, we select the time period and temperature value. We repeat this procedure for each specific day. After setting the weekly timer, there is only one thing left - to switch to the automatic mode of operation of the thermostat.

Temperature sensors of thermostats also have their own operating modes, which can also be changed by an ordinary user:

  • the heating system is temperature controlled by an internal sensor.

    If the built-in sensor fails, then the system goes into safe mode. In safe mode, the thermostat turns on and off with a certain time step, regardless of whether or not the set temperature is reached;

  • temperature control is carried out only by an external sensor, in case of failure of which the heating system also goes into a safe mode of operation;
  • the temperature is controlled by an internal sensor, and an external sensor only limits this value.

The thermostatic head is designed for use with a thermostatic valve, its use helps to use energy more economically, as well as to create a comfortable temperature. Many apartments and houses have an unbalanced heating system.

Often, especially at the beginning of the heating season and at the end, the heating does not correspond to the comfortable temperature so much that users are forced to open the vents in order to get rid of the excess heat in the apartment. To avoid these inconveniences, thermostats should be used.

The radiator thermostat is a thermal head and a valve. The thermostatic head is a sealed cylinder with a bellows inside, which contains a working substance that reacts to changes in ambient temperature. The thermostatic head is fixed to the valve with a union nut.

It has a fairly simple principle of operation - when the temperature rises, the bellows expands, closes the valve and restricts the flow of the coolant. As the temperature drops, the bellows contracts and the coolant flow increases. This device is capable of operating in automatic mode and adjusting the temperature from 6 to 30 degrees.

Please note that thermostatic heads with different working medium are used for liquid and gas condensate thermostats. Liquid thermal heads are usually filled with acetone or toluene, and gas ones with liquefied gas. Gas condensate products are characterized by the fact that they react more quickly to temperature changes.

There are two types of thermostatic heads with a sensor - remote and built-in. Remote sensors are connected to the main unit through a metal tube. Built-in sensors are located directly in the thermostat. A thermostatic head with a built-in sensor is more complex in terms of installation, and many requirements must be met during its installation.

For maximum efficiency of such a thermal head, a radiator up to 16 cm deep is required, the width of the window sill should not exceed 22 cm, the distance from the window sill to the radiator should not be more than 10 cm, and the radiator itself should not be recessed in a niche.

The thermal head with the sensor should be installed perpendicular to the radiator plane, with free access to air circulation in the room. Such requirements cannot be realized in all rooms, and therefore more often buyers choose a thermostatic head with a remote sensor, which can be located even at a distance of up to 8 meters from the main device.

The cost of thermostatic heads is formed on the basis of the composition of the working substance, the type of thermostatic head (liquid or gas condensate), the type of sensor and, of course, the manufacturer. The cost of thermostatic heads from well-known manufacturers will be higher than from unknown companies, but the quality of such a head will also be high.

Thermostatic heads from manufacturers such as Herz, Danfoss will have a good guarantee, and will also be more efficient and convenient to use. Do not forget that the thermostatic head is equipment that is purchased for more than one year, and therefore savings are not appropriate here. It is better to buy a good thermostatic head once and enjoy the comfort for years than to buy a new one every year and spend your time and effort on installing new equipment year after year.

The thermostatic head allows you to set a comfortable temperature in each room of the house, and when used in country houses and cottages with an individual boiler room, you can save up to 25% of heat energy. Quite an important factor in favor of using thermostatic heads is also the reduction of the emission of combustion products into the atmosphere when they are used. This helps to keep the air in the environment clean.

The uniform temperature distribution in all directions ensures thermal comfort in the room. In order to achieve it, it is necessary to take a responsible approach to the design of the heating system: to the choice of devices, the location of radiators, taking into account the thermal insulation characteristics of the room.

Since any heating system is constantly under high load, it is necessary to take all possible measures to prevent breakdowns or accidents. Shut-off valves must be installed in front of the heating radiators, this will allow in an unforeseen situation (accident, failure) to turn off the radiator without negatively affecting the entire system.

In some cases, the shut-off valve can also be used to regulate the temperature, but since it has only two standard positions (on / off), its presence in an intermediate position can cause it to break or depressurize the system.

That is why, to maintain the required temperature, it is recommended to use a thermostat for a heating radiator, the price of which is quite low.

The installed thermostat provides room temperature control by changing the volume of the coolant directly in the heating radiator itself.

Classification of thermostats

These devices can be classified both by the method of receiving the signal and by their design features.

There are three ways that the thermostats receive signals, these are from the radiator, from the air temperature in the room and outside.

It should be noted that the types of thermostats described above can be installed at the same time. By design features, thermostats are subdivided into:

  • Direct acting thermostats. Installation is carried out directly into the pipeline of the heating system, and regulation is carried out by closing the pipe with a valve;
  • Electrically controlled thermostats. The thermostat and sensor are installed in the room where it is necessary to control the temperature, and the thermostat is near the collector;
  • Electric thermostats. Temperature control is carried out by switching on and off circulation pump or the boiler burner, the installation is carried out directly to the heating equipment.

The principle of operation of the thermal head for radiators

Currently, the market for sanitary products is rich in various models of thermostats, the design of the simplest consists of a valve and a thermostatic head.

In order to understand the operation of this system, it is necessary to study in detail the principle of operation of the thermal head for radiators.

The device of the valves is familiar to everyone, but not everyone knows the components of the thermal head. This element of the heating system consists of parts such as a regulator, an actuator and a fluid element (bellows) with corrugated walls.

It is the working medium of the bellows that influences the temperature change.

At high temperatures, the bellows expands and blocks the passage of the heating medium, otherwise (at low temperatures) the liquid element is compressed, leading to an increase in the amount of heating medium entering the heating radiator.

It is worth noting that thermostats react exclusively to the room temperature and the temperature of the heating radiator itself does not affect their operation.

The thermal head, installed in a horizontal position, will prevent the possible impact of warm air emanating from the radiator on it; another way out of the situation is to install an external temperature sensor.

Installing a thermostat on a heating radiator

Mounting of this device is carried out by installing it on the radiator pipe. To ensure proper functioning, the installation of the thermostat on the heating radiator must be performed in the following sequence:

  1. Closing the pressure head section of the heat pipe and draining the coolant. In order to facilitate the installation, it is recommended to install the thermostat before the start of the heating season, in this case you do not need to drain the water from the heating system;
  2. Preparing the seat. A cut is made of the horizontal inlet section, and the thread is applied with a die on both sides of the squeegees. In the event that a valve is installed on the pipe, it must be dismantled;
  3. Mounting the thermostat housing. A lock nut is screwed onto the squeegee located on the side of the riser, after which it is wrapped with a sealing tape. The thermostat itself is screwed onto this nut, like a pipe. To connect this structure with the second squeegee, a lock nut is also screwed onto it. Fixation of the thermostat body is carried out simultaneously from both sides using adjustable wrenches;
  4. Installation of the control element. The thermal head for the heating radiator is screwed into the adapter located on the regulator body. This allows you to replace the control unit in the event that it fails or you choose a more advanced model.

Setting the thermostat

It is important to know not only how to install the thermal head on the radiator, but also how to set it up, because any regulating element must be set up before commissioning.

The thermostat is configured as follows:

  • To ensure a stable microclimate in the room, it is necessary to close all windows and doors. Drafts or heat flows from adjacent rooms can negatively affect the thermostat setting;
  • A stand is placed in the center of the room, the height of which is equal to half the height of the room and a thermometer is installed on it;
  • The thermostat valve is fully opened, which provides heating of the room to the maximum temperature;
  • After the temperature in the room rises by 5-7 degrees, the valve is turned all the way in the opposite direction;
  • Next, you need to follow the drop in temperature on the thermometer, at the moment when its value reaches the temperature you want, you need to smoothly turn the valve to the left until the noise of water appears in the regulator. This stage is final.

After adjustment, you can draw a vertical strip along the valve position or make a small notch, this will help you calibrate other desired temperature conditions in the future.

It is worth noting that some models of thermostats have their own scale and to set the modes, you just need to compare the indicator indicated on it with the temperature in the room.

Advantages of modern thermostats

The models of thermostats that are currently being produced are not only convenient to use, but also have an aesthetic appearance suitable for the interior of almost any room.

It should be noted that the installation of these devices is not difficult not only in new heating systems, but also in existing ones. In addition, according to experts, they have a fairly long operational life, during which preventive and technical maintenance is practically not required. After installing thermostats, there is no need to regulate the temperature regime by opening windows or doors.

The temperature range for normal operation of this device is 5-27 ° C, you can choose the required temperature mode yourself and it will be maintained in the room with an accuracy of 1 ° C. In addition, the thermostat installed on the radiator allows you to prevent excessive heating of the air in the room by direct sunlight, electrical appliances or a large number of people.

Thermostats are able not only to create thermal comfort in the room, but also to ensure an even distribution of the coolant throughout the entire heating system. In the event that the device is installed on a boiler, absolutely all radiators will have the same temperature, even those that are at the maximum distance from it.

Currently, electric batteries with a thermostat are produced, this device is installed on them immediately at the factory.

It is worth noting that when installing the thermostat, it is best to start with those rooms in which there are sharp temperature fluctuations, for example, a kitchen, rooms on the sunny side, or a living room in which a large number of people can gather at the same time.

Quite often, thermostats are used in autonomous heating systems, since when they are installed, fuel costs are reduced by 25%. This, in turn, reduces the amount of hazardous waste generated as a result of its combustion and lowers the cost of heating.

The advantages of using thermostats in the heating system are quite significant, their special efficiency can be noted in private houses and cottages, because in this case the installation of these devices pays off due to fuel savings in literally a year.

The installation of thermostats in private houses should be started from the upper floors, since there is usually a significant difference between the temperature on the lower floors and the temperature in the upper rooms.

High economic efficiency can be provided by panel radiators, which have a significant reaction rate to the opening and closing of the thermostat valves.

When choosing a thermostat, you should pay attention to the presence of a certificate of quality and conformity, high-quality devices always have such documents. The service life of such products reaches 20 years.

Room thermostat, video:

In order that the installation of the thermostat does not turn into problems for you, we present several useful tips:

  • When purchasing a thermostat for a heating radiator, make sure that the warranty period for the device is at least 3 years;
  • Do not believe the inscriptions on the packages and check the country of origin solely by the barcode numbers, since most often thermostats are assembled in China or Korea;
  • Buy thermostats only in specialized stores or departments;
  • Make sure that no additional heating devices are present in the room where the thermostat is installed, as this may disrupt its operation, and you will not achieve the desired temperature regime;
  • It is not recommended to install thermostats in niches, as well as to cover them with any objects or curtains.

The thermostat for the heating radiator can be installed independently, because for this you only need a wrench and the installation instructions supplied with the device. It's up to you to decide what should be the temperature regime in the room!

Installing a thermal head on a heating radiator

Before starting work, it is important to know how to properly install the thermal head on the radiator, the further functionality of the device will depend on this.

What you need:

  • Thermal head
  • Threading dies
  • Fumlenta
  • Two adjustable wrenches
  • Locknuts

Preparatory work

Usually, the installation of the thermal head on the battery is carried out along with the installation of new radiators. To do this, you need to close the riser and drain the coolant remaining in the pipes into a bucket. It is best to carry out work outside the heating season.

Choosing a place to install the thermal head

Taking into account the errors in the installation of the thermostatic head, which we talked about above, we can draw conclusions about where exactly it is not worth installing the thermostatic head. What are the best options? It is important that it is not exposed to heat fluxes from the radiator and is not influenced by factors that can cause a false perception of temperature.

The photos below show common options for the correct installation of the thermostatic head on batteries. If it is mounted at the top of the radiator, it should only be placed horizontally. In the lower part, it can be mounted horizontally and vertically, since there are no strong heat flows of heated air - it rises upward.

Threading pipes

To fix the head on the radiator, it is necessary to cut the threads at the connection points. To do this, on the squeegees coming from the riser and the radiator, a thread is cut using a die.

Head assembly

A locknut is screwed to the squeegee coming from the riser. It is wrapped with fumlent, and a thermostat is screwed onto it, but the fasteners are not tightened. Next, do the same with the squeegee coming from the radiator. The installed thermal head must be fastened - simultaneously tighten both nuts with two adjustable wrenches.

Mechanical, the adjustment of which is carried out manually;

Electronic, controlling the process of adjustment in automatic mode.

Mechanical models are small-sized heads with a rotary handle. The temperature range that can be controlled starts from + 7 ° and goes up to + 28 °. The device provides several modes of operation. Each division of the temperature scale is equivalent to 2-5 degrees.

In electronic models, the entire adjustment process is automated. The adjustment accuracy corresponds to 1-2 degrees. Flexible control system allows you to set the most suitable heating mode.

Thermal head setting

After the user got acquainted with the design of the device, learned how the thermal head works on the heating radiator, setting the optimal microclimate in each room is not difficult. By rotating the knob relative to the scale with marks, you can adjust the temperature within the range of +5 - +28 degrees.

In the first case, the system is guaranteed not to freeze in the absence of the owners inside the building of periodic operation. The maximum value is considered comfortable for users. The substance with which the bellows chamber is filled reacts to an increase / decrease in temperature within 1 degree. Therefore, valve on / off cycles will occur regularly.

Thus, any home craftsman can select and mount the thermal head together with the valve. To do this, it is enough to take into account the above factors, to avoid major installation errors.

The thermal head in 90% of cases is used to lower the air temperature. However, in a country cottage, by installing heads with valves on all registers, the temperature can be raised. In rooms farther from the boiler, the heat loss in the heating circuit is maximum. Therefore, when the supply is shut off in the near registers, hot water heats up the ones far from the boiler room better.

Thermal heads for radiators: adjust heat flows in manual and automatic mode

A radiator valve with a thermal head is a device that regulates the flow of coolant into the battery, depending on the temperature in the room. The use of such devices in central heating systems allows you to maintain an optimal microclimate, and in houses with autonomous heating, it also saves energy spent on heating the coolant.

In our article, we will talk about the design of such devices, describe the principle of operation of a thermal head for radiators, and also give recommendations for their selection and installation.

By installing a thermal head, we are able to automatically adjust the temperature

Approaches to temperature control

To provide optimal temperature in a house or apartment, we need to periodically adjust the degree of heating of the batteries. The easiest way to do this is by changing the volume of the incoming coolant, especially since this task can be implemented in different ways.

Ball valve for manual shut-off of the heating medium

Adjustment method Description
Manually This technique is the easiest to implement, but at the same time the least convenient:
  • At the entrance to the radiator, a ball or cone faucet is cut in.
  • If it is necessary to reduce the degree of heating of the device, the valve is closed (ball - only completely, conical - completely or partially).
  • When the room temperature drops, you can reopen the tap and the battery will continue heating.
With a thermal valve This method is quite common and involves the use of special thermostatic valves.

The principle of operation of a thermal head for a heating radiator is quite simple:

  • We set the room temperature we need.
  • When this temperature changes, the valve mechanism reacts by increasing or decreasing the lumen of the heating pipe with the coolant.
  • The adjustment is carried out in automatic mode.
With an external sensor and drive This technique is similar to the previous one, with the only difference that the temperature is determined at a distance from the radiator:
  • One or more temperature sensors are installed in the room.
  • The sensors are connected to a servo motor attached to the control valve.
  • As soon as the sensor reacts to a change in the set temperature, it sends an electrical signal to the servo, which opens or closes the valve.

Variable flow system

Naturally, automatic regulation is more convenient, and therefore the question of whether it is worth putting such a device into the system is not even raised by most masters. Almost always, the operation of a thermal valve will optimize the indoor climate and will also help to reduce costs.

Description of the device

Main elements

A valve with a thermal head for a radiator has a rather complex design.

Its main elements are:

  • Thermal sensor.
  • Sensor drive mechanism.
  • A valve that opens and closes the lumen of the pipe.

Today there are models with both remote and built-in sensors.

Devices of the second type are more common (and, importantly, they are cheaper), therefore we will focus on their description in detail:

Basic structural elements

  • The basis of the temperature sensor for such systems is a bellows - a sealed and elastic container filled with a liquid or gas.
  • The bellows is connected to a tuning spring, which allows you to set the response temperature of the mechanism.
  • A spring loaded stem is attached to the bellows chamber and actuates the valve spool.
  • The spool is located in the saddle - the chamber inside the thermal head housing. When moved to the lowest position, the gasket completely blocks the saddle gap, blocking the flow of the coolant into the radiator.

The thermal head for a heating radiator, operating under the control of a remote valve, functions differently:

Two-piece device: head + sensor

  • The function of the bellows is performed by a thermal sensor, which is located at a distance from the radiator.
  • Inside the temperature sensor there is a sensitive element that reacts to changes in the temperature in the room.
  • The sensor is connected to the actuator using either wires or capillary tubes (hydraulic models).
  • When the temperature changes, the information from the sensor enters the thermal head, inside which there is a rod connected to an adjusting spring.

Mechanism of work

So, we figured out the main structural elements, now we need to analyze how the thermal head works on the heating radiator:

  • The main sensor is a bellows, the liquid or gas in which is under a certain pressure. The adjustment spring is responsible for balancing the device, which compresses the bellows when we set the temperature we need by turning the rotary knob.

The temperature is set on the side scale

Note! The better the device is calibrated, the more accurately it will respond to temperature changes.

At the same time, the price of such high-precision thermal heads will be appropriate.

  • As the temperature rises, the volume of the bellows increases (mainly due to gas expansion or partial evaporation of the working fluid).
  • The increase in the volume of the bellows causes the spring that secures the stem to be released and the valve gradually closes the lumen in the pipe.
  • This continues until equilibrium is established inside the device, or until the radiator valve under the thermal head is completely closed, i.e. the stem will not move to the lowest position.

Expanded models work in a similar way. The only difference is that either special programmable devices (climate control systems) or remote sensors (liquid, gas or electronic) react to temperature changes. Only then does the information go to the thermal valve mechanism and actuates the stem.

Key varieties

Before installing the thermal head on the radiator, you need to figure out which model is right for us. In addition to matching the connection diameter (this point must be taken into account), it is also important to select the valve according to the principle of operation and layout.

Straight and angle valves

Depending on what kind of filling is present in the bellows, the thermal heads are divided into two groups:

  • Liquid. Provide more accurate regulation of the coolant flow depending on the sensor readings. At the same time, the liquid changes its volume more slowly when the room temperature changes. Therefore, such devices are characterized by a certain inertia.
  • Gas-filled. They react much faster to changes in the microclimate, but at the same time they do not transmit information so accurately to the control unit.

Photo of a gas-filled bellows in a protective case

As for the layout, there are two typical solutions on the market, labeled RTD-G and RTD-N:

  • Valves RTD-G are characterized by high flow capacity and are used to regulate the flow of heating medium in one-pipe heating systems, as well as in cottage two-pipe systems that do not use circulation pumps.
  • Devices of the RTD-N type are designed for installation in two-pipe systems, and the presence of a circulation pump in them, providing forced movement of the coolant, is mandatory.

Bottom connection kit for radiator with thermal head (straight type)

If we talk about the shape of the products, then there are straight and angular models. Also on sale you can find special sets of nozzles that allow you to place the thermal valve in almost any position.

Valve installation rules

Now we just need to figure out how to properly install the thermal head on the radiator.

In fact, there is nothing complicated here, so our instructions will be devoted mainly to nuances that an inexperienced master may simply not be aware of:

Correct device placement diagram

  • We purchase a valve of the type we need with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the heating pipeline.
  • We assemble the device by attaching the sensor to the obturator.
  • Using a wrench, install the thermal head on the radiator inlet. Tighten the union nut as tightly as possible to ensure the tightness of the connection.

Connecting the device

Advice! During installation, make sure that the direction of movement of the coolant coincides with the marking on the valve body.

  • We place the thermal head itself parallel to the floor, i.e. in a horizontal position, perpendicular to the plane of the battery. This is necessary in order for the warm air from the battery to have a minimal effect on the sensor readings.

Correctly placed sensor with digital display

Setting up the system can also be done by hand:

  • Install the rotary valve handle so that the mark on the disc matches the selected temperature value.
  • We turn on the heating system and control the indoor climate.
  • After about an hour, we correct, if necessary, the selected sensor response temperature up or down, depending on the thermometer readings in the room or our own feelings.

Conclusion

Installing a thermal head on a heating radiator gives us the ability to automatically adjust the amount of coolant entering the battery. This ensures the maintenance of an optimal microclimate in the house, and in some cases, significant savings are also achieved. In more detail, the issues of selection and installation of thermostatic heads are covered in the video in this article, so it is worth studying it before buying and installing.

When operating a heating system, situations often arise when the temperature in one room is much higher than in another, which creates some inconvenience. A certain type of control units helps to solve this problem; they can have a wide variety of designs, from classic options to modern solutions, such as remote thermostats for heating radiators. We will consider the features of each type and learn how to properly install them.

In the photo: remote options can have a wire, or they can be wireless.

Device types

At the moment, there are three design options on the market:

Mechanical Such an option as a mechanical thermostat for a heating radiator is the most demanded today, since its price is low, and its reliability is very high.

The appearance resembles a valve on which there is a scale, the number 1 corresponds to a temperature of 14 degrees, 2 - 17, 3 -20 and 4 - 26 degrees. This is usually enough to find the optimal temperature regime in any room.

Automatic They are an electronic unit that is able to maintain a certain temperature in a room, the range is from 6 to 30 degrees in one degree increments.

This option is much more convenient, since it works in automatic mode, but its cost is also much higher than that of the first type of products.

Remote Radiator thermostats of this type are the most convenient and multifunctional today, they consist of an adjustment unit on the radiator and a control unit at a distance of up to four meters.

This option allows you to adjust the temperature by time of day and days of the week, which is very convenient and allows you to maintain an optimal microclimate throughout the day.

Important! In order for the items you purchased to be not only effective, but also durable, you should purchase products from well-known manufacturers who have proven themselves well among buyers and specialists.

Remote options are characterized by a wide range of settings and ease of use

So that you understand what functions this unit performs, we will consider how it works, and also tell you how the thermostat is installed on a heating radiator.

Features of the equipment functioning

The principle of operation of a thermostat for a heating radiator is quite simple:

  • The thermostatic valve for the radiator is responsible for maintaining a certain temperature of the coolant; it either lets in more hot water, or partially blocks its flow, mixing in the return line to achieve the desired temperature. This is the main working unit in mechanical structures, but in more modern solutions there is an additional unit.

This is how the valve looks like in mechanical assemblies, in which the adjustment is made by manual marks.

  • The thermostatic element is responsible for maintaining a certain temperature; it is a sealed cylinder, inside which either a liquid or a gaseous substance is located. When the temperature in the room rises, the bellows (this is the name of this unit) expands, blocking the flow of hot water; when the temperature drops, the opposite process occurs, due to which a constant indicator set earlier is maintained.

This is how the assembled system looks like, everything is quite simple and reliable

There is often a question where you can buy a thermostat for an electric heating radiator, they are usually not sold separately and are part of the heater design, so this unit can be purchased from companies selling spare parts or from the manufacturer, because the elements differ significantly depending on the modification.

First of all, you need to purchase a thermostatic kit for connecting a radiator, as noted above, it is better to choose products from well-known manufacturers.

The kit includes a thermostatic and adjustment valve, as well as an adjustment block

You should immediately tell that the adjustments are made by the mounting valve during work, and after that the thermostatic head is installed, in order to carry out this process with your own hands correctly, you need to study the information that the instructions give.

When choosing a faucet for a heating radiator with a thermostat, remember that the design can be straight or angular, so you must know which option is right for your batteries.

The thermostat for a cast iron heating radiator can be made in the form of an antique product

Let's consider how to install a thermostat on a radiator:

  • First of all, it is necessary to drain the water from the system, otherwise it is unlikely that it will be possible to carry out the work.

Advice! In order not to lower the riser in a multi-storey building, we advise you to carry out work in the summer, when the system is going down and your work will not cause inconvenience to anyone.

  • If you cut elements into an already working system, then you need to cut off a piece of pipe in order to put an adjusting unit in its place, attach the element to the pipeline and mark the cutting place.
  • There is no need to cut anything on new systems, therefore it is better to provide for the presence of regulators at the stage of heating design.
  • First of all, the crane is removed from the pipe, since it is in its place that the structure will be installed.
  • Next, the nuts and shanks are removed from the valve and the locking mechanism, after which they are screwed to the radiator.
  • Then it is necessary to connect the piping, it is important to do everything carefully and efficiently in order to ensure maximum reliability of the connections, since leaks in heating in winter are extremely undesirable. (See also the article How to fix a leak in a heating pipe: features.)

This is how a properly installed adjuster should look like.

Important! In modern heating systems, plastic pipes are used, which is very convenient, since it is much more difficult to work with metal. Try to swap metal for plastic whenever possible.

If the work was carried out on a two-pipe heating system, then no additional modifications are required, but if you have a one-pipe version, then for normal operation you will have to modernize the structure. It will be necessary to install a bypass, this is the name of a jumper that connects the coolant supply and the return line. The diagram shows what the radiator trim looks like in this case, everything is very simple.

Valves of radiator thermostats on one-pipe systems without a bypass installation do not work correctly

For old systems with poor quality coolant, it is better to use the simplest mechanical options, they are both reliable and cost little, which will allow you to change them if necessary without incurring significant costs.

To simplify the replacement process, each radiator must be equipped with a shut-off valves, then you can drain the water through the plug from only one battery without draining the entire system, the main thing - do not forget to release the air through a special valve after opening the water.

Output

The use of control units allows not only to achieve a comfortable microclimate in the room, but also to reduce the cost of energy resources for heating due to more rational use of the coolant. The video in this article will tell Additional information on this topic.

How are corner faucets for heating radiators arranged? What criteria can be used to classify these products? What functions can they perform in the piping of the heater? Let's try to answer these questions.

One of the options for strapping the radiator.

Functions

The main function of the tap is quite obvious - it shuts off the coolant entering the radiator.

It's necessary:

  • to turn off heating in warm weather;
  • for dismantling the radiator in case of malfunctions.

However, no less important is the function of adjusting the throughput of the inlet, which allows you to flexibly adjust the heat output of the heater. This adjustment can be done manually or fully automatically; in the latter case, the radiator is able to maintain a given temperature in the room without the participation of the owner.

Classification

Corner taps for heating devices can be roughly divided into categories according to three criteria.

Shut-off valve type

This parameter is directly related to the functionality of the crane.

There are three types of products on sale:

  1. Ball valve. He has only two working positions - "open" and "closed". Ball valves are not designed to adjust the passability.

It is worth clarifying: strictly speaking, it is still possible to change the permeability of the liner with the help of this product; however, the accuracy of the adjustment will be below any criticism. In severe frosts, an overly closed valve is quite capable of defrosting the battery, so it is better to use more suitable fittings to fine-tune the heat output.

Straight and angle ball valves.

  1. Choke designed for manual regulation of heat transfer.
  2. A thermostatic valve that allows you to set a certain temperature regime in the room with the help of a thermal head and maintain it automatically.

Material

Threaded angle taps are made of brass, a metal resistant to corrosion and aggressive environments, which does not form a galvanic pair with any of the materials used in the installation of heating systems. In most cases, they are supplied with a decorative chromium-nickel coating: brass tends to darken after prolonged contact with moisture.

Along with the all-metal one, on sale you can find a radiator polypropylene corner faucet with a coupling for pipes for welding. As you might guess, it is designed for installation with a polypropylene liner and allows you to do without additional fittings - adapters.

Quick disconnect couplings

Optionally, the products of interest to us can be supplied with a quick connector with a gasket and a union nut - the so-called American. It is widely used with aluminum and bimetallic radiators and allows you to reduce the dismantling time of the heater to 30 - 40 seconds.

The American allows you to make the connection quick-disconnect.

In addition: one of the most common problems of radiators installed on squeegees is leakage from under the lock nut. Connecting an American woman, for obvious reasons, completely removes the problem.

In the photo there is a radiator corner valve with an American woman under the PP.

Device

How are different types of taps arranged?

Ball

Their design represents an evolutionary development of cork valves that have been used for a long time on gas and water. The water is shut off when the plug is turned, which in this case has the shape of a ball with a perfectly processed surface. The sealing of the plug and the stem that drives it is made of heat-resistant polymers with a low coefficient of friction - Teflon and fluoroplastic.

Chokes

The throttling valve is structurally very similar to the good old screw valve, but with a couple of modifications:

  • The stuffing box packing has been replaced with a wear-resistant rubber or PTFE seal;
  • The valve is stationary relative to the stem and in most cases is devoid of a rubber gasket. Tightness is ensured by lapping metal parts. This design makes the product extremely durable.

Thermostatic valve

Its principle of operation is based on the thermal expansion of media. The main structural element is a bellows filled with a solid or liquid substance with a high coefficient of expansion.

The stem connects the bellows with a valve that throttles the coolant flow. When the thermal head is heated, the bellows lengthens and shuts off the flow; on cooling, on the contrary, it shortens and opens the valve.

An important point: when installing with your own hands, the thermal head must be installed horizontally. The instruction is due to the fact that the penetration of the expanding bellows into the stream of warm air rising from the liner will knock down the temperature control.

Dimensions (edit)

What should be the nominal valve diameter?

  • A 1: 2 '' corner radiator faucet is perfect for an aluminum or bimetal radiator up to 10 sections in length.
  • With a larger number of sections, it is better to increase the diameter of the inlet to 3: 4 inches (DU20) and make the connection of the heater two-way - lower or diagonal. (See also the article Heating pipe diameter: features.)

Radiator corner faucet 25 - 3: 4 will allow you to connect a multi-section heater directly to the filling tee.

Price

The choice of one or another type of shut-off and control valves is not least influenced by the cost of purchasing it. We will give the approximate cost of different types of valves with a nominal diameter of 1/2 "in Russian retail.

Please note: the actual cost is highly influenced by logistics (manufacturer's shipping cost), manufacturer's name and country of origin. Imported goods will cost significantly more than domestic ones due to customs duties.

Decorative performance can also affect the cost.

Conclusion

We hope that our material will help the reader to choose the type of shut-off and control valves that is optimal for his goals and budget. The video in this article, as always, will acquaint him with additional thematic information. Good luck!

What is a remote sensor thermostatic head? Thermostatic heads for radiators

If it is hot in an apartment or house in winter, you have to open the windows. This normalizes the room temperature. But the cost of space heating is quite high. To reduce them, the coolant must be spent expediently. To adjust the heating temperature, a device such as a thermostatic head is installed on the radiators. It efficiently consumes the coolant and saves significant funds for the family budget.

Principle of operation

Some homeowners regulate the heating temperature of the radiators during the heating season by partially closing the shut-off valve. This is the wrong approach, since with such use of fittings, they quickly fail. Their purpose is to be in a fully open or closed position only. To be able to reduce heating costs, thermostatic heads for radiators are used.

Their operating principle is completely different. The scale on the device is used to set the required room temperature. When the radiator pumps it to the specified level, the thermostat shuts off the coolant supply. This does not happen partially, but completely. As soon as the temperature drops, the flow is resumed. It is very convenient and profitable from an economic point of view.

Head device

The thermostatic head has a specific design principle. Some models differ in additions and features laid down by the manufacturer. But the principle is the same for everyone.

The device consists of a valve and the thermostat head itself. Inside the latter there is a sealed corrugated chamber. It is called a bellows. This chamber is filled with a special substance that expands in a certain way when heated.

The system begins to press on the valve stem, and it shuts off the coolant supply. The material inside the bellows can be liquid, gas or solid. By the type of such filler, thermostatic heads for radiators from different manufacturers are distinguished. The speed of response of the device to changes in ambient temperature depends on this.

The principle of economy

When buying the presented device, the consumer is promised savings in heating costs up to 35%. In different cases, this figure will differ significantly. Since the principle of operation of the heads is to completely cut off the supply of the coolant, they are used only in autonomous heating systems.

In no case should you use the device if it is rather cool in your home. But when the room is hot, the thermostatic head will be relevant. The main economic effect of its use is observed in the off-season or when the temperature difference between day and night is quite large.

If the heating system is designed correctly, and all its elements are installed properly, the device will be quite effective. During certain periods of the heating season, the savings will be really tangible.

Types of installation

There are two main principles of the presented device. The first option involves measuring the temperature directly on the radiator at the place where the head is installed. This is a rather imprecise approach, but it has a right to exist.

The second option involves using a device such as a thermostatic head with a remote sensor. The temperature is measured in the absence of the influence of the rising heated flows from the battery. In this case, the sensor correctly detects the room temperature.

Due to this feature, the second type of installation is preferable. If the sensor is positioned correctly, the measurements will be correct. This is especially true in winter, when the temperature of the coolant is high. There is considerable heat radiation from radiators and pipes. It can lead to errors in the determination of heating with a conventional head.

How does the device work?

There are many manufacturers offering the presented products to the consumer. But thermostatic head Danfoss, Giacomini, Purino, etc. are quite different in how they work. Therefore, you should consider their functions in an ideal way.

Let's say the user has set the required room temperature to +23 degrees. For different manufacturers, this mark on the head can be indicated by a number, a dot, etc. As soon as the heating reaches a predetermined level, the substance in the bellows expands and presses on the valve stem. When the room temperature is +24 degrees, the supply of coolant to the radiator stops. The room gets cooler. When the temperature drops by 1 degree, battery operation resumes. In this case, +22 degrees are determined in the room. But in reality, everything may be somewhat different.

Mounting

For the device to work correctly, the thermostatic head must be installed strictly according to the manufacturer's instructions. The valve is installed on the water supply pipe to the radiator. The head should not be positioned vertically, but horizontally. This will allow it to better capture the room temperature.

The radiator should not be installed deep into the niche under the windowsill. If batteries are covering a decorative panel or thick curtains, the use of an external sensor is imperative. This element should be positioned so that nothing obstructs it.

The place of installation must be carefully considered, otherwise an error in measuring the temperature will lead to overcooling of the room. An incorrectly installed sensor significantly reduces the speed of the device's response to air heating in the room. Strictly following the manufacturer's recommendations, you can carry out the installation yourself.

Device selection

The thermostatic head, the price of which depends on many parameters, comes with different filling of the bellows. The cheapest varieties have a solid inside. The speed of its response to temperature changes is rather slow. Therefore, it is better not to skimp on quality and buy more efficient products. Manufacturers such as Giacomini, Purmo (500-700 rubles) use liquid as a filler for the bellows. Such devices adapt more quickly to their environment.

One of the sales leaders today is a Danfoss thermostatic head worth 1000-1500 rubles. Its work is due to the effect of a gaseous substance. With the correct installation of the device, its operation is most close to the ideal option. Gas reacts faster than other bellows fillers to changes in heating in the room. Therefore, the adjustment of the heating system is much faster.

Having familiarized yourself with such a device as a thermostatic head, we can conclude that it is necessary for a properly designed autonomous heating system. It is better not to save on the quality of this device, otherwise the effect of its use will be minimal.

Thermal heads for heating radiators.

A device that allows you to regulate the temperature of heating radiators is called a thermal head. This is not the only name for this device, there are also: a thermostat for a battery, a thermostatic head, a temperature controller for a battery, a radiator thermostat, a radiator thermostat and others. Let's talk in more detail about this device.

Various types of thermal heads for heating radiators.
  1. Operating principle.
  2. Classification.
  3. Installation options.
  4. Settings.
  5. Conclusion.

1. The device and principle of operation of a thermal head for a heating radiator.

The thermostatic head can only be used in conjunction with a thermostatic valve. The thermostatic valve belongs to shut-off and control valves and with the help of a thermal head can regulate or shut off the fluid flows in the system.

The device of a thermostatic heating head and a thermostatic valve.

The temperature of the ambient air near the thermal head affects the state of the substance in the bellows. Decreasing or increasing in volume, the substance acts on the position of the push rod and thereby regulates the volume of the coolant entering the radiator. When the air temperature in the room rises, the substance in the bellows begins to expand, squeezing out the stem, which in turn reduces the channel cross-section, and the volume of the coolant entering the radiator decreases. When the temperature drops, the process takes place the other way around: the substance in the bellows is compressed, due to which the rod rises, increasing the channel cross-section, and the volume of the incoming coolant increases.

Opening and closing of the stem is facilitated by two stainless steel springs: one returns the stem after closing the valve, the other after opening.

It is IMPORTANT to remember that for the thermal head to function properly, it must be periodically cleaned of dust and dirt. It should be remembered that cleaning agents and abrasive materials should not be used for cleaning !!!

2. Classification of radiator thermal heads.

Thermostatic heads (thermal heads, thermostats) for radiators - kind of control valves for heat supply systems.

They allow maintain the set air temperature in the heated rooms... Thermal heads are installed directly on heating radiators and allow you to adjust the temperature background inside the room in manual and / or automatic mode.

Purpose and design of a thermal head for heating radiators

The main task of the thermostatic head is maintaining the air temperature in the heated room according to the specified settings.

Depending on the capabilities of a particular model, a fixed or dynamic temperature background is set in the room.

For this class of devices characterized by high precision of regulation- for models of the middle price segment, the error does not exceed 1 ° C... Besides maintaining comfortable temperature, the use of such devices also contributes to more economical energy consumption by optimizing the circulation of the coolant in the heating system.

Important! Depending on the operating mode, the average amount of energy saved when using thermal heads varies within the limit from 10 to 20%.

Device

Basic structural elements thermostatic head:

  • plastic case;
  • bellows;
  • rod, pusher and return spring;
  • locking element;
  • sealing elements;
  • fasteners.

Thermostatic valve

Most models of thermal heads equipped with valves, the main task of which is to regulate the diameter of the radiator inlet. Thermostatic valves are installed on a straight or corner section of the heating circuit.

Photo 1. Thermal head with a thermostatic valve. It is the valve device that regulates the amount of coolant injected into the radiator.

Removing the thermal head from the valve at the end of the heating season allows to solve this problem and significantly extend the effective operation of the device.

Attention! With prolonged inactivity or prolonged operation in one mode, the risk of sticking moving parts thermostatic head.

Principle of operation

Thermal head bellows filled with a substance with a high coefficient of thermal expansion (usually - ethyl acetate, toluene or wax), reacts to changes in the temperature background in the room. The user sets the desired room temperature value.

With an increase in this indicator, the bellows filler sets the stem in motion, reducing the diameter of the flow passage of the thermostatic valve... The throughput of the radiator decreases and the temperature decreases in accordance with the specified parameters.

Photo 2. The structure of the thermostatic head for radiators. The arrows indicate the component parts of the device.

When the temperature drops below the set value, the filling of the bellows decreases in volume and the process is the opposite of the one described above... The circulation of the heating medium increases and the room temperature rises to the desired value.

Important! Installation of thermal heads on cast iron radiators is ineffective, since the cooling and heating of cast iron takes a long time, especially compared to aluminum, steel and bimetallic radiators.

Varieties

Classification thermal head carried out on several grounds:

  • compatibility with thermostatic valves of a certain standard;
  • temperature control method.

Valve Compatibility

Commercially available thermostatic heads are compatible with standard valves RTD-N or RTD-G.

The choice in favor of one or another standard depends on the characteristics of the heating system buildings, in particular - from diameter direct feed pipes. The main difference between these standards is the capacity of the valves.

For valves RTD-G standard and their direct counterparts are characterized by increased throughput, they are designed to be used:

  • with one-pipe heating systems;
  • with two-pipe systems with natural circulation (primarily relevant for private houses);
  • in multi-storey buildings.

Attention! When installing thermostatic heads on heating radiators of one-pipe systems bypasses are required.

Standard valves RTD-N(and analogues) designed for use in:

  • buildings equipped with forced circulation heating systems;
  • multi-storey buildings with two-pipe heating systems.

Adjustment method

Depending on the way of regulation, thermostatic heads are conventionally divided into:

  • mechanical devices that allow you to manually change the temperature;
  • electronic devices that adjust automatically.

Mechanical models cheaper, but due to the constant change of position, the adjusting knob wears out over time. In addition, such devices require constant monitoring by residents.

Unlike mechanical counterparts, electronic thermal heads independently change the room temperature according to the specified settings. In addition to the obvious convenience, minimization of the risks associated with the uncontrolled use of temperature control equipment is guaranteed.

Photo 3. Thermal head of electronic type for heating radiators. The display shows the temperature of the heater.

Available for sale programmable electronic thermal heads equipped with timers and allowing you to adjust the room temperature depending on the time of day, outside temperature or other parameters.

Remote control

Some models of thermal heads support the remote control function. In most cases, this option is only increases the usability of the thermostat however, when it is difficult to access the body of the device, remote control becomes an absolute necessity.

Placement, installation and setup

Choosing a place to place the device itself does not depend on its type and configuration- mechanical and electronic thermostats are installed on the pipe for direct supply of the coolant to the radiator. In this case, the main condition for the effective operation of the thermostatic head is constant air circulation around the device.

Important! Installation of the thermal head in a vertical position is not allowed. Horizontal mounting(parallel to the floor plane) eliminates impacts warm air and significantly improve the accuracy of the device.

Remote sensor

Most thermal heads are equipped with built-in temperature sensors, however, in some cases, the operation of such models is ineffective.

The use of an external sensor, fixed at a distance from batteries, window openings and other hotbeds of temperature changes, required if:

  • there is no possibility of ensuring a constant air flow to the device body: the radiator is installed in a wall niche, closed by a curtain or a false wall, the distance from the upper edge of the radiator to the window sill is less than 100 mm;
  • convection currents affect the accuracy of the readings of the built-in sensor;
  • direct sunlight falls on the body of the device;
  • there is no way to eliminate drafts, which also adversely affect the accuracy of the readings of the built-in sensor;
  • horizontal installation of the thermal head is not possible.

In most cases, the use of remote sensors is optional, Experts agree that optimal performance of thermostatic heads is achieved only when such peripherals are used.

Mounting

The key to the correct connection is strict adherence to the instructions and recommendations of the manufacturer the thermostatic head to be installed, given in the instruction manual.
