How to split a file into several files. Five free utilities for cutting and merging large files. To place your files online with the possibility of further downloading them

Hello friends. IN modern world everything is accelerating and developing very rapidly. Computer games require more and more powerful hardware, and films are increasingly released in 4K resolution. On the one hand, all this is good, the quality increases, the picture improves, but when it comes to transferring huge amounts of information from computer to computer via a network, certain difficulties may arise. To simplify this process, you need to know how to split a file into parts, and then connect them back. Just in this article we will look at two methods that I myself have been using for a long time, after studying which you can easily split the file into several parts and transfer them to the desired computer.

Let's take a closer look at this issue.

Why do you need to split the file into parts?

Currently, there are no particular problems physically transferring data from one computer to another. External drives do an excellent job of this; they can be used to download large files and transfer them to another PC. But what if you still need to split the file into parts? Often, the transmission needs to be carried out at a distance, there may be other reasons for which it is necessary to make a breakdown. Let's look at some of them:

1. Requires recording to DVD or CD. Don’t be surprised, but even today this option is used quite often, even in various large companies, because this is an excellent way to save data that a virus cannot reach, unlike flash drives. Then you need to divide the file into parts and write them to different disks (the size of which is limited).

2. Recording to media in the FAT32 system. For various reasons, some still do not want to format a disk or flash drive into the NTFS file system, and use the “out of the box” option. The FAT 32 file system is inconvenient because files larger than 4 GB cannot be uploaded to such a device. So if this is about you, then again you will have to split the file into several parts and download them.

More and more people are using cloud storage to avoid filling up their hard drive. Very comfortably. But there is also a drawback here; as a rule, the size of the maximum downloaded file should not exceed a certain size - 2GB, for example. And you need to upload the file. What to do? That's right - divide the file into several parts that can be uploaded separately.

In general, there can be many situations for which you need to split a file into parts. In this article I will look at the two most relevant ones. Well, now let's actually move on to the breakdown procedure itself.

How to split a file into parts using WinRAR

This method can be considered the simplest, since in order to split a file into parts you do not need to scour the Internet in search of some programs, because the WinRar archiver is installed on most computers. If you don’t have it, you can download and install it without any problems; it’s very easy to find it in a search engine.

To split a file into several parts using WinRar you need:

1. Find the required file and right-click on it and select ADD TO ARCHIVE from the menu:

2. Next, you need to select the size of each of the parts into which your file will be divided. Set MB (Megabytes) and select the size. In my case, the file weighs about 19MB, so I set the part size to 5MB. Accordingly, the file will be split into 4 parts:

3. Click on OK, the process will start, wait until it finishes:

4. Check the result, in my case everything went fine, the process of dividing the file into parts was successful, in the end I have 4 files:

Merging broken files into several parts back using WinRAR

Well, the files have been transferred, let’s say, now they need to be glued together again, to do this we do the following:

1. All parts of the split file must be in the same folder, be sure to check this

2. Now right-click on any part of the file and click EXTRACT TO CURRENT FOLDER, or select the desired folder in the EXTRACT FILES item...

3. After starting the process, WinRar itself will connect all the parts, and you will see the whole file again.

As you can see, splitting a file into parts using WinRAR is very simple.

The undeniable advantages of this method include archiving

those. During the splitting process, each file is archived; accordingly, the total size of the split files will decrease compared to the whole file. The only drawback I can mention is the speed of operation. If it is important to you, then consider another method.

How to split a file into parts using Total Commander

This program is mostly used by more experienced users and it also has a great breakdown tool.

The main advantage of this method is the speed of operation.

Large files are split much faster than in WinRar, but the data is not archived, so the total size of the files will be the same as the whole file.

To split a file into several parts using Total Commander you need to:

1. Launch Total Commander (if not installed, download and install)

2. Find the file that needs to be divided and select it by clicking on it with the mouse

3. Now at the top of the program we find and go to FILES—SPLIT FILE...

4. A window will open in which you will need to select a folder where you want to divide the file into parts. We register the folder manually, or you can use the TREE button. Here you need to select the maximum size of some files (the larger the volume, the larger size select parts):

5. Start the process and look at the result:

As you can see from the photo, everything worked out, for which the program congratulates us.

Merging broken files into several parts back using Total Commander

1. Combining files also occurs in the Total Commander program, launch it and open the folder with the necessary files that need to be combined

2. Find the file with the extension crc, it contains all the information about the future whole file:

It is often necessary to split one file into several in order to collect all its parts in a compact place that can be sent for work or for some other purpose. This process is not complicated, but it requires the Winrar program, which is designed specifically for this. This article will tell you how to use this program to split a file into parts.

How to split a file into parts - write Winrar

  • In order to split the file into parts, you need to install the Winrar program. Most likely, you have it installed, since when you bought a computer, all the operating systems were already installed. basic programs. Despite this, if you still don’t have Winrar, follow the link and download the file.
  • It is important to remember that in order for the program to register and work correctly, you need to download the version that matches the bits of your operating system. To check how many bits your system has, you need to right-click in the “My Computer” folder and select the “properties” tab in the window that appears. The next window will provide you with information about all the indicators of your system. Find the bit depth (the location of the information will be indicated on the screen below).

  • After you have found out the bitness of the operating system, return to the site to download Winrar. Choose the one that matches the metrics we recently looked at. After downloading, install the program.

How to split a file into parts using Winrar

You can do this by following the step-by-step instructions:

  • We find the file that needs to be split into parts. Let's take video as an example. Right-click on it and select “Add to archive” in the window that appears.

  • After this, a window will appear where you will need to specify the compression method. The recommended method is normal. Let's choose it. We are coming up with a name for our archive. Then we select the size of the files into which our file will be divided and click on OK.

  • After all these steps, the file splitting process window will appear. This usually doesn't take much time, unless the file is too large, of course. We wait a couple of minutes.

  • We look for the archive on the desktop, go into it and make sure that the operation of splitting the file was successful.

Splitting large files allows us to use large memory streams compactly and conveniently. The Winrar program is an indispensable assistant in such situations.

Are you familiar with the situation when an attempt to record your favorite movie or game on a flash drive ends in failure? As a result, a window appears with the message “Not enough free space.”
One of the reasons is that the copied file is larger in size than the capacity of the flash drive. You can transfer such a file by cutting it into parts or buying a new flash drive.

First, let's make sure whether the movie or game really does not fit on a flash drive, due to the large file size and small capacity of the flash drive.

You can check this by comparing the movie size:
— find the movie on the hard drive;
- select it;
— right-click to open the Properties/General menu;
- look at “Size”
and the amount of storage space on the flash drive:
— My computer/Removable disk;
— Properties/General/Free.

If there is really not enough space due to accumulated files, then you will have to delete everything previously recorded from the flash drive, having first copied everything to the computer’s hard drive.
If the film still doesn’t fit, you’ll have to cut it into several parts.
In my opinion, the easiest way to first cut a film into several parts and then assemble it into one whole is archiving and dividing it into several volumes. This can be done using archiver programs, such as WinRAR. In this case, the file size will decrease slightly, but the film will be divided correctly and can be transferred home or to work in two or three times.

How to split a movie using WinRAR

1. Find the movie on your hard drive.
2. Right-click to open the menu and select WinRAR/Add to archive.
3. In the WinRAR program window that opens, if desired, change the name of the archive and indicate the size of the volumes. You can enter it yourself or select it from the drop-down list. Since by default the size is set in bytes, in order not to type a number with a huge number of zeros, you should write mb after the selected size.

In an example it would look like this:

I have a two gigabyte flash drive. I need to record a 2.05 GB movie on it. Thus, I need to create an archive divided into two volumes.

1. In the window I specify an arbitrary volume size, for example, 1500 mb.

Thus, the first volume will be 1500 mb, and the second – 505 mb. With the same success, I can specify a different size, as long as the file subsequently fits on my flash drive.
If you plan to record on a CD, then it is better to choose the size from the proposed ones - 700MB.
If your computer has a Fat 32 file system, then to burn to DVD, select a size less than or equal to 4095MB.
Or you can even cut it into 100 MB fragments.

2. After clicking the OK button, archive creation will begin, the time of which depends on the size of the film and computer performance.

3. Several archive files with the same names and prefixes .part1, .part2 appear in the folder with the file
As you can see, only the number in the name changes.

How to connect the resulting volumes using the WinRAR program.

All volumes must be copied to one folder on your hard drive. Then select the first volume (it can be easily found by adding part1 to the name), WinRAR/Extract files.
The archiver will unarchive the volumes in the required order and merge them.

In this lesson we will learn how to divide files into parts. This need most often arises when you need to transfer a large file from one medium to another. Let me give you an example.

Let's say I have a 10 gigabyte movie on my laptop in cool Blu-ray quality, which I want to transfer to my desktop computer, where I have a 27-inch monitor. To watch this film there in awesome quality. I will transfer it to a flash drive from the laptop, and then from this flash drive to the computer. But the fact is that I have only 4 gigabytes memory on it.

And if split the file into parts? Let’s say a 10 gigabyte file is divided into three parts of 3 and a little change, then you can easily download it in three approaches.

Or let’s say we want to put some program on the Internet, and it weighs about 500 megabytes. And as you know, sites that allow you to exchange files (file hosting services) most often allow you to place files no more than 100 megabytes. In this case, you can split the program into 5 parts of 100 megabytes each and upload all these parts. Then download all these files into one folder and put them together.

To separate files into parts it will help us WinRAR program. Most often it is installed on every computer. It’s very easy to check if you have it on your PC.

To do this, right-click on ANY file. In the context menu that opens, if you see items for this program, it means you have it installed. If not, then you need to find it on the Internet, download and install it.

Once the problem with the program is resolved, you can begin the process itself. So let's take a look, how to split a file into parts.

We will learn from my example. Down with theory, long live practice. This way everything will be much clearer to you.

Let's get started.

I have on this moment There is a film that weighs a little more than one gigabyte. I need to send it to my friend, but I can’t send it at once more than 400 megabytes. This means that I need to divide it into 3 parts and give them all to my friend. And he will collect them all into one file using the same WinRAR program.

I start dividing the file into 3 parts.

I right-click on the movie and in the context menu that appears, select “ Add to archive».

In the window that opens, first use the “Browse” button to select the location where all parts of the broken film will be saved. If you leave them as they are, they will be saved in the same place as the original movie file.

Now comes the most important point. You need to select the size of the volumes that are obtained when dividing files into parts. I indicate 400 and next to it IMPORTANT do not forget to indicate that this is the size in megabytes (MB). Now all that remains is to click “OK”.

The creation of archives has begun, which will be divided into several parts, and each of them will weigh no more than 400 megabytes, as I indicated.

After the operation was completed, 3 archives appeared in my folder. Each of them added part1, part2 and part3 to the end of their name.

I send these three files to my friend one by one. What does he need to do to get a single file, in this case a movie?

He needs to right-click on the first archive and select “Extract files”.

And it is known that too large a file size can become an obstacle to performing certain types of tasks. For example, problems may arise when transferring such files over the Internet or recording onto optical media, and inconveniences may also arise when moving or copying them. In such cases, splitting one large file into several parts can help. The simplest, but not the most convenient way to “cut” a file into pieces is to use a regular archiver. The disadvantage of this approach is the mandatory presence of an archiver that supports packaging without compression. True, this method also has its own positive sides, take, for example, the same ability to protect data with a password. Still, to split large files it is better to use special utilities.

Convenient and easy to use program for splitting and merging files. It is free, has a simple, Russified interface, and has good operating speed. Supports two main modes of operation - separation with the creation of self-adhesive parts and separation with the creation of a batch file. To combine individual parts, it is not necessary to have the program on another computer. In the first case, a stand-alone exe file is used for merging; in the second, a regular batch file is used. The part size can be set manually in bytes. Unfortunately, Cutter cannot split files larger than 2 GB and this is its main drawback. The utility is available for download on the developer's website cutter22.chat.ru

Unlike the previous program, SplitFiles easily copes with files larger than 2 GB. There is support for the Russian language. The size of the parts can be set in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes. Integration into the Explorer context menu, deletion of the source file upon completion of the splitting operation, and the use of ZIP compression are supported. There are two main modes of operation - separation with the creation of a batch file and simple separation. In the second case, to build the file on another computer, you will need to install SplitFiles. You can download the utility on the developer’s website www.altarsoft.com. During installation, it may load third-party software, for example, Yandex elements.

According to the developers, HJSplit is capable of splitting files larger than 100 GB. The utility is lightweight, does not require installation, and is supported by different operating systems, that is, it is multi-platform. When dividing, the size can be specified in kilobytes and megabytes.

HJSplit works somewhat slower than SplitFiles and Cutter. Possibility of creating batch files There are no self-adhesive blocks in the utility. Among the additional features, it is worth noting the comparison of files, as well as the calculation of checksums using the MD5 algorithm. HJSplit has a simple modular interface on English language. You can download the program from the official website

A simple program for separating files with a colorful, customizable graphical interface. When splitting a file, you can specify the size of the parts in bytes, megabytes, or kilobytes, or simply specify the number of blocks into which the object should be divided. It has good speed and can easily handle large files.
Unfortunately, you will also have to use WinMend File Splitter to combine the parts. During the division process, the utility creates a bat file, which in theory should be used to combine blocks, but for some reason it does not work. The inability to glue parts together without the need to install the utility is its main disadvantage. Also, the program does not support the Russian language. You can download this separator from the developer’s website www.winmend.com

A portable free utility with an aggressive name. Designed for separating and gluing large files. The utility features a minimalist interface with Russian language support and the ability to select the format for the collected file. But most interesting feature Piranja is an assembly of a file from its parts located in different sections or folders hard drive. You can download the program from the website diskette.info. The main disadvantage of Piranja is the lack of the ability to create batch files for automatic gluing. Piranja is also not suitable for separating files whose type is not listed in the list of supported formats. The utility will cut and assemble the file without any problems, but after assembling and assigning the original extension, opening such a file may fail with an error.
