Tarot is the most widely used divination system in the world. The tarot card deck is sometimes even called the Gypsy Book of Fortunes. Tarot has been used for many thousands of years to reveal hidden truths and predict the future of the fortuneteller.

Some psychologists even use tarot to understand how the client imagines himself from the outside, how he sees himself. To do this, the psychologist asks to choose a card with which the client associates himself, and then draws conclusions based on the interpretation.

Very few facts are still known about the origin of the Tarot. Some researchers claim that the Tarot appeared in the 11th century, but the most convincing hypothesis suggests that the Tarot was discovered in the 15th century in Italy - the Fool and 4 Queens of each suit were added to the usual deck of 21 cards. This is what gave rise to the modern 78-card Tarot deck.

The traditional 78 deck consists of many symbolic pictures. Typically a deck consists of 22 cards called the Major Arcana and four sets of 14 cards each, similar to playing cards. They are called the minor arcana. The word Arkan literally means “secret” or “mystery”.

On this moment More than thousands of decks have been released, symbolizing different images - from sports stars to voodoo. But the Raider-White deck remains the most famous and popular. Although, many people buy a deck of cards, the images on which and the style of their execution are in harmony with their own nature.

There are as many opinions as there are people, so different interpreters interpret the cards in different ways, and everyone adds their own opinion to the interpretation, based on experience and understanding of the symbolism. Many tarot readers lay out cards in special combinations - layouts. The most famous and common is the 10-card layout - the Celtic Cross. In this scenario, the fortuneteller sees a detailed, symbolic representation of the client’s problem. The tarot reader sees what provoked this situation and how it will most likely be resolved in the future.

The mechanism of the Tarot still remains a mystery. Some experts believe that when shuffling cards, the fortuneteller receives a kind of psychological picture your client and his situation. The layout of the cards itself marks the many available ways to solve the client’s problem. When the client sees several solutions to his problem, he himself chooses the one most suitable for his circumstances. If this theory is correct, then the future is not something “carved in stone”, and people are the masters of their own destiny.

Because many people mistakenly associate tarot cards with fortune telling, some religious movements oppose their use. Society often rejects predictions based on traditional teachings or religious beliefs in which man has no control over his destiny, but is subject to the will of God or several gods. In general, people have polar opinions on completely different things and theses, so it is not surprising that some have prejudices against the Tarot.

In my work, I often encounter the fact that people treat Tarot cards consumeristly, placing responsibility for making decisions on the cards, or they try to adjust the answers to what they want to hear. Without knowing the true nature of prediction, people create all kinds of myths around them. While studying the myths and superstitions associated with the Tarot, I decided to combine them together, which is how this article was born. Here I present only 10 of them, but in fact there are a great many such myths, and I will be sincerely grateful to those who will send me heard or overheard myths about the Tarot so that I can expose them.

1. The cards themselves should tell you what the person came with, what his problem is.
This myth is one of the most common, and, alas, often supported by non-professional tarot readers. I am, of course, not talking about the fact that there are clairvoyants. But clairvoyance and tarot cards are somewhat different things. And if you turned to a tarot reader, then be so kind as to try to formulate your question as clearly and clearly as possible. And if it’s difficult for you to do this, then at least say what exactly interests you or name the area of life that interests you, and the tarot reader will help you clearly formulate the question.
What is this connected with? And with the fact that each of the tarot cards predicts in all areas at once, and often has different meanings in various areas of life, and, believe me, a tarot reader will not sit and guess which area interests you. But from one single card pulled out, the tarot reader can determine in what state you turned to him, and what your expectations are from him, and whether you are even ready to accept the answer from the cards.

2. Cards are magic, and fortune telling with cards is a sin.
This is the second most popular myth, but here I want to immediately disappoint you. Tarot cards are an excellent tool for analyzing a situation, personality, and actions. In this regard, it is somewhat similar to the actions of an investigator - given certain initial data, you need to see the whole picture. But no one calls the actions of the investigator magical, much less sinful in relation to the victim or the accused.
This touch of mysticism is associated with a misunderstanding of the processes occurring during a tarot reading session. And at this moment the following happens. We all contain all the information about our past, present and future, in our own unconscious or subconscious (it's the same thing). It is this that determines the presence in our lives of certain events, types of people, crisis situations, and other things. The unconscious communicates with us exclusively through the language of images. And tarot is one of the ways of communication that helps, with the help of symbols, to understand what the subconscious can tell us.

3. Cards can tell your whole life.
This is another myth. Tarot cards, of course, can tell us about our hidden potential, draw attention to not just some of our abilities, but, alas, we need to develop and realize these very abilities ourselves. It’s the same with key events in our lives - tarot can indicate the possibility of their occurrence, but at the same time they will definitely give a recommendation as to what exactly can lead to this. But in general, we should not forget that we are developing, and if we actively take part in our own development, solving our psychological problems, and constantly growing spiritually, then the forecast for our whole life becomes absolutely meaningless, since fate wants to encourage and reward our efforts... with change events at all levels. So the forecast for life will be relevant only for those who are passive contemplators of their own lives and do not take part in it.

4. You can’t guess on cards during a leap year.
Well, this myth, first of all, redirects us to the answer to myth #2. Tarot cards do not care at all when we decide to analyze ourselves or the situation, and any professional tarot reader can do this, at any time of the year, time of day and in any year, whether it’s a leap year or not. The accuracy of the forecast depends only on the state of the tarot reader himself and the sincere desire of the client to find out the real picture of what is happening. Note, real, and not drawn by his imagination.

5. Cards tell exactly what a person needs to do and when.
Very often we have to deal with the fact that people turn to cards for a ready-made answer: what, where, how and when they need to do so that everything turns out the way they want. And naturally they are disappointed when this does not happen, and even if there is a clear answer, they prefer to either deliberately ignore it or not hear it at all. Why did this myth arise? It’s because people often don’t want to take responsibility for making decisions, preferring to blame it all on a tarot reader, in case it doesn’t work out, and then they’ll have someone to blame for their own problems. In addition, often such people, turning to the tarot for help, already have their own ready-made picture of what is happening, and any deviation from it begins to be perceived as a blood offense, or they begin to accuse the tarot reader of charlatanism.
Most often, people who do not want to take responsibility for their lives, people who have a childish mystical consciousness, who want to seem like “victims” of evil bosses, asshole husbands, bitch women and other similar creatures, are inclined to believe in such a myth.

6. Cards become addictive.
This myth is only partly a myth. In fact, dependence on cards can arise, but rather not from the cards themselves, but from the desire to “lay out straws” in advance. But, since tarot cards, so to speak in relation to cards, are in some way alive, then at some point they will decide that they have had enough and generally refuse to give any predictions, or will begin to predict complete nonsense. In this case, it will, of course, not be the cards that create the dependence, but the person himself. In their desire to unconsciously control all processes, and having once realized that tarot can show a fairly complete picture of what is happening, such people can begin to use cards on any, even the most trivial issue. By the way, this endless desire to consult cards also speaks of one’s own insecurity and low self-esteem. Usually the following myth works together with this myth...

7. By telling fortunes with cards, you can “tell” your fate.
To be honest, I still don’t know exactly what this expression means - to tell your fortune. But I noticed one logical thing: the more a person studies tarot cards, the less he lays them out to get an answer to any question. The trick is that the more a person immerses himself in the research of this predictive system, the more he self-disciplines and understands himself, so often professional tarot readers are extraordinary, bright, developed intellect. But there are also some “tarologists” who treat the system consumeristly, trying to simply learn the meanings, and then apply them to the cards, without thinking about the meaning of what is said. In such cases, the mechanisms of karma are triggered, and to such would-be tarot readers begins to return everything that they actually brought into the world with such predictions. And if the tarot reader has an unsettled personal life, or serious health problems, or some other nasty thing, then the tarot has nothing to do with it, these are their own unprocessed psychological problems.

8. During fortune telling, programming of the client’s consciousness occurs.
Another misconception related not so much to the cards themselves, but to the tarot reader. It has long been no secret that many are trying to profit from a person’s craving for everything mystical and supernatural; this has not escaped such an instrument as the tarot. There are people who use tarot as a means of intimidating clients and extorting money from them. But as they say, like attracts like, so if you fall into the clutches of such a “specialist,” then you need to ask yourself the question: why did I even get an appointment with him. Undoubtedly, a professional tarot reader is often a rather tough person, cutting the truth, but he will not scare you, but will simply say it as it is, even if you don’t like it, leaving you with a free choice of actions. For the novice tarot reader himself, it is worth deciding who he is in practice - an omnipotent God who commands the destinies of people or a wise adviser who tries to point out a person’s mistakes and support him in difficult times without being afraid to reveal the true essence of what is happening.

9. What the cards said cannot be changed.
Actually, here you can say everything that I have already said before. This myth is just another attempt to blame the tarot reader or the cards for what is happening. The tarot system is designed in such a way that if there is an answer, it usually gives recommendations to pay attention to certain events, or think carefully about what is happening, or make a decision or do something that may seem absurd to others, or simply stop worry about nothing. Everything that the cards predict is just the most likely scenario, to which you can make changes if necessary.

10. You just need to learn the meanings of the cards and their combinations in order to predict well.
Well, this myth dispels very quickly as soon as a novice tarot reader buys the first tarot deck and the first tarot books. There is a lot of literature on cards, even a lot, and they sometimes contain contradictory meanings. Having become completely confused in the literature, the beginner makes the best decision - to take courses from a professional. These courses most often lay the basic foundation for communicating with cards, understanding what kind of beast this is - tarot, and only after that begins more serious, in-depth work on studying the subject, or, well, abandoning the system, which turned out to be more serious than simple playing solitaire.

This was the impetus for the development of the modern 78-card deck.

4. The traditional 78 deck consists of many symbolic pictures. Typically a deck consists of 22 cards, called the Major Arcana, and four sets of 14 cards each, similar to playing cards. They are called the minor arcana. The word Arkan literally means “mystery” or “secret”.
