Cleaning the foam gun after use. How to clean a foam gun? Tips and tricks. Removing polyurethane foam from different surfaces

A spray foam gun is a convenient device for construction work. The principle of its operation is to distribute a dosed amount of polyurethane foam.

Using this tool, various construction work is carried out to fill voids, holes and seams in walls, window frames, and doorways. Unlike conventional mounting cylinders, when using a gun, you get an even and high-quality seam without excessive use of sealant.

Installation gun device

The mounting device has a long metal rod for convenient distribution of foam along the seam. There is a ball valve inside that closes the outlet of the sealant. An adjusting screw is used to distribute the foam. It is advisable to choose pistol models made of reliable and durable metal.

When to clean the mounting gun

The installation tool is washed with a special strong solvent liquid every time after use so that it serves for a long time and properly. Moreover, polyurethane sealant is cleaned not only from the device itself, but also from hands, clothing and work surfaces. Aerosol cans with flushing liquid are sold by the same manufacturers that produce polyurethane foam.

Technical data for flushing from polyurethane foam:

  • The main component is dimethyl ketone;
  • The contents of the aerosol can are under pressure. Handle with care: do not disassemble, store out of reach of children;
  • Does not tolerate direct sunlight;
  • Do not allow the cylinder to overheat above 50 ° C. The recommended air temperature when working with the cylinder is +5 – +35 ° C;
  • After use, under no circumstances should the container be burned or opened.

Instructions: how to use polyurethane foam cleaner

  • Open the protective cap on the cleaner;
  • Remove the used polyurethane foam container from the mounting gun gearbox;
  • Install a flushing bottle on the gearbox;
  • Pass the flushing liquid through the tool rod by pressing the adjusting trigger several times to supply the sealant;
  • Remove the cleaner bottle;
  • Check that all foam has been removed inside the instrument.

Flushing bottle with spray adapter

To clean work surfaces from dried polyurethane foam, tightly put on the special sprayer supplied with the washing aerosol and direct it to the contaminated area.

Do not bring your working tool to such a state that the sealant dries right in the gun, since washing it is a rather labor-intensive and lengthy process. If your adjusting trigger suddenly stops working, the tool may be dirty and it's time to clean it.

If this happens, remove the mounting bottle with polyurethane foam and carefully cut off the excess foam from the rod. Then lower the gun down and drip flushing into the gearbox. Make sure that the liquid does not spill or get on other parts of the installation tool. Gently press the trigger and squeeze out the dried sealant.

If this does not help, then carefully disassemble the gun and clean the main valve with solvent, dripping it onto it at the junction with the cylinder. If the mounting device is still clogged with foam, remove the valve and flush that part with solvent. Cleaning completed. Afterwards, carefully assemble the tool and it is ready for use.

Safety precautions when working with flushing:

  • The composition is fire hazardous, as it contains flammable substances, therefore, it must be kept away from open flames, electrical appliances, heated surfaces and spark-producing equipment. Smoking is prohibited in the premises where work is being carried out;
  • Minimally toxic. In case of contact with the eyes or inside, you should immediately consult a doctor, because the components of the cleaning liquid irritate the skin, respiratory tract, eyes and can cause allergies. If inhaled for a long time, it is hazardous to health. Before use, it is advisable to cover your eyes with safety glasses and wear gloves;
  • After cleaning the skin of your hands from polyurethane foam using a cleaner, rinse your hands thoroughly under running water with soap;
  • Work carefully in clothing made from artificial fabrics to avoid chemical reaction synthetic fibers with washing;
  • Spray in a ventilated area. If ventilation is not working satisfactorily, use respiratory protection.

Gun installation

The mounting gun will last its entire intended life if you follow these instructions. simple rules and regularly use flushing liquid to remove polyurethane foam residues. This is why it will be useful

The procedure for removing the remnants of old foam is not particularly difficult even for those who first picked up a tool for foaming a surface. Most manufacturers are detailed instructions, how to clean a spray foam gun in the easiest way so that the cleaning process takes a minimum of time and does not become fatal to the tool itself. Unfortunately, you have to look for the lost paper with the treasured instructions after the gun with dried foam finally stops working.

How to clean a gun correctly and effectively

Sooner or later, the gun for working with polyurethane foam begins to work unstably, jerkily, and at one point stops supplying the foam. If such a situation arises, do not rush to press with all your might on the trigger; one excessive force, and an expensive repair of the foam gun will be guaranteed. There can be two reasons for the mechanism to freeze:

  • Sealing the rod or needle that controls the valve at the end of the barrel with polyurethane film;
  • Ball valve with spring stuck in foam.

In both cases, force will not help to clean the cork; for example, to remove a needle caught by polyurethane foam, an enormous force of several tens of kilograms will be required. On the other hand, using a proprietary flushing mixture, acetone or Dimexide, you can clean the channels without any effort; you just need a couple of keys and a bunch of wooden toothpicks and wood chips of different sizes. The choice of cleaning method for a foam gun depends on the model of the tool and the degree of neglect of the device.

How to properly maintain a foam gun

In theory, you can clean any gun, even those models that are considered disposable and non-removable. Best pistol of all times of the Hilti brand, which is considered non-removable, is also cleaned with the transition to new type polyurethane foam or after storage for more than one year with the cylinder installed.

Tools that work with such a complex adhesive mass as polyurethane foam must be regularly cleaned and residues must be carefully removed, especially from parts of valve systems. Most users forget that polyurethane foam is polyurethane foam, essentially adhesive foam. If you clean the gun with the first solvent that comes to hand, the resulting solution of polymer in the solvent can turn into a thick, rock-hard film. It is very difficult to cut off the glue bump even with a knife, not to mention cleaning the gun chamber with an alcohol-acetone mixture or solvent.

The easiest way is to use a ready-made branded foam gun cleaner. Its composition is almost no different from acetone, it contains a retarder for the setting of polyurethane foam and an inhibitor that protects rubber gaskets from drying out. If you clean the gun with acetone alone for a year, the polyurethane foam in the form of a dense adhesive mass will siphon through the butyl-styrene gaskets that have lost their elasticity.

For your information! Most finishers who constantly work with polyurethane foam believe that instead of cleaning the tool, it is best to preserve it by installing a new container of foam material.

This decision is justified if you use the gun every day. If the tool is used once every three to four months, then it is best to wash it immediately after use with any available wash for a spray foam gun, then clean it with a solvent and dry it.

Intermediate cleaning, how to properly clean the tool during operation

The organization of tool maintenance and its preparation for storage is radically different between professional finishers and ordinary users. The pros are more practical:

  • They leave the old cylinder, even if it is almost empty. This allows you to protect against the access of water vapor from the air. You just need to clean the nozzle on the extension; for this you will need an ordinary match, cut obliquely with a knife, and a few drops of acetone;
  • If a new cylinder with polyurethane foam is installed, the procedure is the same. It is necessary to squeeze out a large number of mass, after which, using a toothpick, a cloth moistened with acetone, and a knife, remove traces of foamed polyurethane from the nose of the tool and the nozzle.

There is no point in licking the tool and trying to clean it until it shines if the gun needs to be used again in the near future. A cylinder installed on the gun will block the access of air and thereby protect the internal valve from the hardening foam mass. Without contact with water vapor in the air, polyurethane foam remains in a liquid state for a long time.

The outer needle valve on the barrel should always be washed after work and cleaned of the polyurethane film into which the remaining polyurethane foam turns. If you don’t have time to clean the gun from any remaining mounting compound, you can tie the spout with a rag soaked in a regular nitro-based solvent or Dimexide.

Advice! Do not attempt to clean the gun with anything other than wood chips or toothpicks.

Aluminum or steel wire leaves marks on the inner surface of the needle valve, as a result of which the uniformity and stability of the foam spray is disrupted. Due to poor sealing, foamed polyurethane inside a gun with a worn needle and seat hardens in a few hours, while on a new, even the most budget product, the setting time is at least three days.

How to Clean a Week-Old Foam Gun

With a large amount of finishing work, there is simply not enough time to tidy up or clean the gun. When your hands finally reach the tool with the mounting foam remaining in the barrel, it turns out that the trigger with a significantly increased force can still be pressed, but instead of a torch, only small drops of polyurethane foam fly out.

The problem of restoring functionality can be solved in three ways:

If you don’t have time for a complete cleaning, the easiest way is to try cleaning the valves with a small injection of acetone. To clean the pistol valve, you need to lightly press the trigger and, using a five-cc medical syringe with acetone or solvent, quickly squeeze the contents into the barrel. You need to clean the ball valve in a similar way.

Important! The force required to rotate the adjuster is the best indicator of the degree of polymerization of the foam. Instead of pressing the trigger, you can turn the locking needle several times to restore its mobility.

Before cleaning the gun from the foam, perform the procedure of turning the rod. All that remains is to install a fresh cylinder and squeeze out the dissolved films with the pressure of fresh foam.

How to clean a gun according to instructions

Modern models of pistols allow you to remove the barrel even with a cylinder installed; you just need to first turn the foam flow regulator to the minimum and put the safety on the tool. The foam still remains in the barrel, but if the pressure is turned off, it will not splash out onto your hands or clothes.

If the degree of polymerization of the polyurethane foam is low, then the easiest way to clean the gun is with a proprietary mixture. To do this, you just need to remove the old bottle and install a container with acetone. For professional pistols, you need to open the regulator and press the trigger several times, after 25-30 minutes repeat the procedure until complete care dissolved mounting mixture. For example, clean the foam gun, as shown in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKeJgYBYreU.

The cheapest models are best cleaned mechanically, by hand and with tools. If there is a need to clean and rinse a cheap pistol model, you need to fill the pistol with cleaner for 5-7 minutes and after final cleaning, rinse the insides with solvent 647 with a small addition of Galosha gasoline. In this way, it is possible to protect rubber seals from swelling and premature wear.

Cleaning a gun with old foam

If the instrument has been stored with the cylinder connected for more than two months, or in open form within a couple of weeks, there is nothing left to do but clean the gun from the frozen polyurethane foam mechanically. Just take it apart down to the screw and clean it with a wood chip and a small amount of acetone.

How to disassemble the device

Within a month, the polyurethane foam inside the gun turns into a fairly viscous or hard substance. The polyurethane mass behaves like glue; it sticks perfectly even to the polished walls of the barrel, and cleaning it with a scraper is not as easy as it might seem at first glance.

Before disassembling the foam gun, you must be familiar with the diagram of the tool. This will help prevent parts from breaking when disassembling the device. Often, threaded connections were firmly glued together with a polyurethane film, and in order to unscrew, for example, a flange for installing a cylinder, efforts had to be made that bordered on breaking the parts.

In order to clean the device, you need to remove:

  • The nose piece on the barrel of the gun, to clean the part, you need to place it in a cup with acetone for 10 minutes;
  • The flow regulator is simply unscrewed from the rod along the thread;
  • The sealing nut of the needle valve stem is unscrewed with a wrench by 8-10 mm;
  • The mounting flange for the cylinder with mounting foam is unscrewed with a regular screwdriver, inserting its tip between the side drains.

The day before, all threaded connections can be sprayed with Dimexide and left for two to three hours, after which the reagent must be wiped off with a cloth moistened with a solvent. Acetone is added to the inside of the ball valve and barrel.

The process of cleaning foam gun parts

The first step is to remove the central needle rod. After removing the regulator screw, a short piece of current will remain free, which needs to be wrapped in thick paper and, grasped with pliers, you can forcefully pull out the entire rod. An empty barrel can be cleaned with a knitting needle or simply punched through the foam plug with a wooden stick of suitable diameter.

The most difficult step is cleaning the mounting flange with the valve. The foam sticking out from the top can be cut off with a sharp knife; to clean the valve with the ball and spring, you will have to fill it with acetone. After softening, the spring is slowly unscrewed from the cavity.

In addition to metal and plastic parts, it is necessary to remove the rubber gaskets, wipe them with a cloth moistened with acetone, lubricate them with grease, such as grease, and install them in place.

Conclusion

Before assembling the gun, it must be cleaned of polyurethane foam and washed with solvent. All parts are installed on the foam gun only in a dry and clean form. Cleaning the device mechanically requires a lot of time, but you can clean the gun without the risk of dissolving body parts and gaskets. The best solution for removing polyurethane is considered to be a mixture of vinegar essence and acetone, and the mixture is non-toxic and quite safe for human health.

In the process of construction and repair work, both professional and home craftsmen use a foam gun. It allows you to efficiently and accurately blow out seams on a wide variety of objects. This tool can significantly save the owner’s money, since purchasing a can with a special mounting tube will cost more.

To last a long time, it requires proper care. Dried material on such equipment can prevent the blow-in from being applied correctly into joints and seams. Therefore, every master, even before starting work, should know how to clean a foam gun.

There are several approaches to solving this problem. Expert advice will tell you which one to choose in each specific case. By taking a responsible approach to maintaining the cleanliness of your instrument, you can significantly extend its service life.

Need for cleaning

A good spray foam gun is quite expensive. It pays for itself during use due to the ability to use it several times. How long you can use this tool in your work depends on the quality of its maintenance.

Foam remains in the gun after processing. This is not a big deal if you immediately remove it from the muzzle and other pieces of equipment. But sometimes, even with a short delay, the substance freezes. It becomes more difficult to remove.

Inexperienced craftsmen may wonder whether it is necessary to clean the foam gun. Of course, if it is intended to be used for repairs in the future, this process cannot be avoided. Otherwise, purchasing the presented tool simply does not make sense.

For disposable It is better to purchase a bottle with a special applicator. Although even home craftsmen, as experience suggests, use a foam gun more than once. Therefore, it is more profitable to carry out cleaning regularly.

Professional installers know how important it is to keep your foam gun clean. They give advice to novice craftsmen who use this tool for repairs. It is very important to remove traces of dirt immediately. This will simplify the maintenance that the foam gun needs so much. How to clean it depends on the degree of contamination, as well as the time the material remains on the instrument. The faster you wipe off the foam, the less effort you will need to spend on it.

Various chemicals are used for cleaning. Experts advise purchasing them immediately together with polyurethane foam from the same manufacturer. Special products show better results than universal varieties.

Each manufacturer produces polyurethane foam with different properties and chemical composition. The cleaner from the same series takes into account all the features of this material and acts on it in a targeted manner.

Main characteristics of the purifier

All chemical solvents of polyurethane foam have different compositions. But they are characterized by almost identical properties. These are substances designed to remove contaminants from both instruments and other surfaces and the skin of the hands.

When getting acquainted with the technology of how to clean a spray foam gun, it is necessary to consider the principle of the effects of the products. These are substances of moderate toxicity. They are not dangerous to humans, but if they come into contact with the face, the mucous membranes can cause irritation. Therefore, if the chemical comes into contact with your skin, rinse it with plenty of water. In case of accidental contact with the eyes or inside the body, you should immediately consult a doctor.

The substance in the cylinder is under pressure. It has a high level of flammability. Therefore, do not spray it near an open fire or overheat it. Compliance with these basic rules will help you avoid troubles during the work process.

Timely cleaning

When studying the question of how to clean the mounting gun after foam, you should consider this procedure in detail. If the product has not yet dried, the process is quite simple.

The cylinder, which was used by the master and no longer contains foam, is unscrewed from its socket. A container with solvent is installed in its place. Before doing this, you must remove the protective cap from it.

The tool lever is then pressed several times. Flushing is continued until pieces of mounting material appear in the stream. After this, the product is removed from the equipment. If there is still some amount of substance left in the cylinder, you can screw the protective cap back on and store the cleaner for some more time. If repairs are not planned in the future, it is better to dispose of the chemical.

If the foam has dried out

Sometimes it happens that flushing was not carried out in a timely manner. In this case, the polyurethane foam hardens right inside the gun. In this case, the trigger cannot be moved. How to clean the gun in this case? There are a number of recommendations.

Under no circumstances should you press the trigger. This is guaranteed to lead to breakdown of expensive equipment. Instead, you need to clean off the dried foam at the base of the trunk. This should be done carefully so as not to scratch the metal.

In this case, the cleaning work is considered completed. But if it was not possible to revive the instrument after carrying out the above steps, you will have to resort to another method.

Cleaning the Main Valve

If after the above manipulations the trigger still does not press, it means that foam has got on the main valve. You will need to spend more time and effort on washing it.

Experts will advise how to clean the mounting gun in this case. There is a small ball on the upper assembly of the tool, where the cylinder is screwed. You need to apply a few drops of solvent to it. Next you need to wait 10-15 minutes.

The chemical rinsing cylinder is screwed onto the valve and the trigger is pulled. The remaining dissolved foam should come out of the barrel of the mounting gun. After this, you can continue to work on applying foam to the seams.

But sometimes more advanced blockages occur. In this case, the work becomes much more complicated.

Full flush

If a large amount of foam has frozen inside the instrument, you will need to disassemble it into its component parts. This must be done carefully. Delving into the topic of how to clean a foam gun, you need to understand the design features of the presented device.

First you need to unscrew the crown of the valve to which the cylinder is attached. The solvent is introduced inside the instrument. Moreover, it is also necessary to process the socket of the installation unit.

To make it more convenient to unwind the equipment, you should hold it below the place where the cylinder is attached. The solvent remains inside the system for about 25 minutes. Next, you need to press the main valve ball. Clumps of dissolved foam come out.

The tool is assembled in reverse order.

The foam has completely frozen

Some craftsmen have a question about how to clean the foam gun if it has completely hardened. In this state, the material already has all its inherent qualities. Solvents or other chemicals will not help. You will have to act using brute force.

All parts that can be dismantled are removed from the gun. It is necessary to prepare a wire of appropriate thickness and acetone. After pouring a few drops of solvent inside and waiting for some time, small pieces of foam are pulled out with a wire.

The action is performed until the wire appears on the other side of the barrel. The gun is then reassembled and washed with a chemical.

Experienced installers say that equipment cannot be brought to this state. Even after cleaning, the foam will flow much harder.

If the material being mounted has not yet hardened, the whole procedure will go faster. The answer to the question of how to clean a foam gun is simple in this case. You need to use a special tool.

Experts advise keeping a can of rinsing with you while performing installation work. This will avoid unpleasant consequences and unexpected costs when the material hardens inside the tool.

The foam gun must be washed after each use in order to be able to work with it in the future. Instrument cleaning techniques will depend on the variety:

  • Metal models. Durable, reliable, can be used for 3-5 years. Easy to use and easy to clean sealant.
  • Teflon models. The gun has metal surfaces that have a Teflon protective coating. This makes the tool easy to clean.

  • Plastic models. They are only suitable for one-time household use, so there is no point in cleaning them after completion of work. This is a cheap and affordable tool that is sold in any hardware store.

Therefore, it will be much more profitable to buy it every time you need to work with polyurethane foam. If you frequently work with sealant, it is recommended to buy metal or Teflon models, which already require systematic cleaning.

Before cleaning the gun from polyurethane foam, you need to decide on a cleaning technique. There are several ways:

  1. Mechanical cleaning. It is necessary to disassemble the tool and carefully and consistently clean all elements. To carry out the work, removers (for example, regular acetone), a knife, a rag or a sponge are used.
  2. Cleaning using a chemical reagent. Tools are cleaned using chemical mixtures. Carried out upon completion of the work process and removal of the can. This method is suitable if the gun has been used for a short time.
  3. Cleaning without removing the can. The traditional method, which is used when the tool is used frequently and the cans of polyurethane foam are constantly changed due to the consumption of sealant.

The method of cleaning the gun from dried foam is selected depending on the level of contamination of the tool. The simplest solution is to remove all contaminants immediately upon completion of the work. In this case, you need to remove all visible remains of the mounting foam from the tool and clean the barrel.

If the tool is heavily soiled and mechanical and chemical cleaning methods do not help, then you need to consider purchasing a new gun. Especially if the life of the old tool exceeds several years.

Standard option

When using the standard mechanical cleaning method, you will have to completely disassemble the gun:

  1. You need to unscrew and remove everything you can. If the tool is expensive, then there must be instructions for it, which indicate the design features. The main thing is to take care of threaded connections during disassembly.
  2. When disassembling the gun, you need to remove the sealant from all elements, wiping them dry with a rag.
  3. To blow through the barrel, it is recommended to use a cleaning rod (you can make it yourself from metal wire).
  4. At the next stage, a flushing compound is poured into the barrel and everything is cleaned with a cleaning rod. The process of cleaning the barrel must be repeated until the cleaning rod moves freely in the barrel. If the mounting foam dries in the barrel, it will not be possible to remove it only with a chemical composition.
  5. It is very important to completely remove the sealant from the barrel, since during subsequent work the movement of a new portion of the consumable may be difficult.
  6. After cleaning the gun, you need to lubricate the connecting parts and assemble the tool.

Stone houses have been popular since ancient times because they are reliable and durable. Several centuries later we can observe buildings made from this natural material, which are still well preserved. Today, natural stone home decoration is still in demand and dictates new styles. Finishing can be done by combining several types natural materials. The result is a reliable, stylish shelter that can withstand the influence of the external environment and negative mechanical influences. There is no longer such a need to completely build a house out of stone. Natural stone is ideal for finishing a house and requires significantly less material than completely erecting walls. The assortment of stone is quite large, everyone can choose the material according to their taste, both in color and texture. Advantages of cladding If we compare stone cladding with other materials, then against their background it, of course, wins not only in terms of strength and durability, but also in appearance. It is also worth noting that natural material is environmentally friendly and has a positive effect on health...

How to clean a gun from polyurethane foam? A few simple ways

High-quality and fast installation of systems:

The biggest problem in using this construction tool is how to clean the gun from the polyurethane foam after repairs have been carried out. It is very convenient to use, in all respects it outperforms any applicator cans, but its design is not very consistent with maintaining equipment in exemplary order

At the same time, the tool itself is not cheap and will obviously be needed in the future - at least for those who are not used to calling a repair team for every trifle.

Therefore, it is worth remembering the most important rule: the foam must be removed in a fresh state. However, if you missed this moment, you should not fall into despair and throw away a valuable instrument: it can still be saved.

How to clean a gun from polyurethane foam, including frozen foam, is the topic of our article. We hope that our advice will help you decide.

Competent approach

Any person who has a household construction gun and even a little prudent, he will certainly purchase a cleaner in advance. Let us note one subtlety: professional builders advise using solvent at the same time as foam, from the same manufacturer. The fact is that the composition inside the cylinder may differ significantly from a similar one. It will clean it in any case, but much worse than the original one. Using this tool is as easy as shelling pears:

  • The used foam can is removed from the gun.
  • Remove the protective cap from the aerosol cleaner.
  • The new cylinder is fixed in place of the one that is no longer needed.
  • The trigger is squeezed several times until the stream does not contain any foam debris.
  • The can of cleaner is removed and the free movement of the trigger is checked.
  • If there is still some product left inside, put the cap back on and the can is saved for next time.

Do not forget that inside the container there is a solvent, which, like any chemical, is not very good for health. Moreover, he is kept there under pressure. We follow basic safety measures:

  • do not store the packaging near the stove or in the sun;
  • we do not try to open or burn the empty cylinder;
  • we work on our own; if the jet gets into your eyes, nose or mouth, run to the doctor;
  • Remember about the danger of explosion and do not smoke nearby.

Force Majeure

Now let’s say that for some reason the timely flushing did not take place. The foam is frozen solid inside, the trigger is not pressed. The main thing you should never do is to put pressure on him. By brute force you will only achieve that you break the mechanism. We act consistently and carefully.

  • First of all, the barrel is freed from the foam adhering to the outside. A knife is quite suitable for this purpose. Our task is not to scratch the piston.
  • The gun goes down to the ground. At the very beginning, carefully, so that it does not get on other parts, the solvent is buried.
  • The trigger is pulled smoothly, without any sudden insistence. No rudeness - we act gently and without jerking, gradually. If the problem is minor, liquefied foam will begin to come out at this stage. No - let's move on to the next stage.
  • A non-yielding trigger indicates that the mounting foam has jammed the main valve. There is a small ball near where the cylinders are screwed on. The next few drops of solvent go to him. After about 10 minutes, a bottle of wash is attached.
  • Using careful pressure we try to blow out the instrument. If this does not help, it is time for radical measures.
  • The gun is held at the bottom of the socket, and the crown is carefully unscrewed. The valve is removed and set aside. The solvent is buried in the inside of the construction tool and in the nest. After waiting for 25 minutes, pressing on the ball releases the parts from foam clots.
  • The last stage - assembling the tool into working condition - is carried out in the reverse order.

The most advanced case

Let's be honest: the actions described in the previous section are effective only in the case when the foam has begun to harden, but has not yet turned into reinforced concrete. When she clings to the parts of the gun with the same force with which she holds the double-glazed windows in window openings, gentle procedures are ineffective. However, it’s a shame to just give up.

If the chances of saying goodbye to the tool and going to the hardware store are still great, you can stop being so nutty. A hardened installation cannot be treated with any chemicals; it can only be affected physically, which is what you will have to do.

  • You are looking for stiff wire of a suitable diameter.
  • Unscrew the gun, removing from it everything that can be dismantled. The set of such parts is different in different designs, but it seems that a real repairman is quite capable of disassembling such a mechanism.
  • Using a wire, dripping regular acetone into the area to be treated, clean off all observed shreds. You need to try not to damage anything, but especially thin and vulnerable parts in mounting gun No. Acetone softens frozen foam quite well.
  • The last stage is cleaning the barrel. A little solvent is also poured in there. If the gate is clogged all over, you will have to pick out the plug piece by piece.
  • When the wire comes out from the opposite end of the barrel, the instrument is assembled to its original state, a can of cleaner is connected to it, and the entire system is carefully washed.

People say that the method is quite effective, although it requires a lot of time (no one managed to do it in less than an hour) and extreme caution so as not to damage something vital for the further performance of the pistol.

The main drawback of the proposed method is that you are unlikely to be able to completely mechanically remove the foam from inside the barrel - both because of its round cross-section and because it is not visible where the remains are hidden. So it is likely that there will be a certain reduction in foam pressure the next time you use it. And if you again bring your weapon to such a disastrous state, the diameter of the barrel will narrow even more, even if you manage to clean it.

Hence the conclusion: in order not to invent ways to clean a gun from polyurethane foam in a frozen state, before using it, place a bottle of cleaner next to you - it will not let you forget about the need to use it.
