Mods for computer games are a real find both for those people who dream of developing their own projects, and for those gamers who would like to expand the functionality of their favorite games. The fact is that a mod is a special add-on to the game, made by fans, which slightly changes the process, adds some new elements or removes unnecessary ones. Naturally, many gamers are willing to try a few modifications that promise to make the gaming experience even more impressive, but sometimes problems can arise with the installation of modifications. Still, it is worth remembering that these are not official projects, but fan additions. This is why you need to know how to install if you want to succeed in this endeavor.

And if you install one mod unsuccessfully, then you can ruin the entire game that you have installed. Accordingly, before you even download the mods you like, you need to make a backup. If we're talking about specifically about "San Andreas", then you should be interested in two folders - DATA and MODELS, it is in them that changes are made during the installation of the modification, so you need to copy them and place them in a safe place. And if something goes wrong, then all you have to do is put them back in place, restoring the original appearance of the game. Well, precautions have been taken, it's time to find out on GTA: San Andreas.

Special programs

Every gamer who is thinking about how to install mods for GTA: San Andreas is faced with a choice - to do everything manually or use additional software. It's up to you to decide, but it is still recommended to choose the second option, since with the help of additional programs you can significantly simplify the process of installing and removing mods for yourself, and also seriously reduce the likelihood of errors occurring in this process. If you still plan to use auxiliary software, it is recommended that you first pay attention to the IMG Tool program, since it is ideal for installing mods specifically for this part of GTA. If you plan to look in more detail at how to install mods for GTA: San Andreas on cars, then you should also download the GTA Garage Mod Manager program.

Downloading and installing mods

Considering the fact that preference is given to special programs for installing modifications, this step will look at how to install mods on GTA: San Andreas with automatic installation - the manual process is significantly different, so you will need to consider it separately. This article will talk about how to install mods for GTA: San Andreas. Installing mods is good way diversify the gameplay. Using this method, you can modify many elements of both the game interface itself and individual configurations, such as textures, models and much more.

Preparatory stage

There are many ways to install mods on GTA: San Andreas. This can be done using a variety of auxiliary programs, or by simply replacing files in the game directory. And if in the second case there is no need to do any manipulations before installing mods, then in the first it is necessary.

So, before installing mods for GTA: San Andreas, you will need to download some programs that will help carry out that very installation. The first program presented will be Crazy IMG Edition. It is this that is useful when working with dff and txd extension files. Also download and install the TXD Workshop program so that you can work with sight mods.

In general, this will be enough. Now we can safely move on to how to install mods for GTA: San Andreas.

Where can I get mods?

We also need to touch on the topic of where it is better to get mods from. After all, everyone knows that when downloading something from the Internet, you always run the risk of introducing a virus to your computer. There are a lot of sites that host mods, and not everyone can boast of the purity of their content. It often happens that malicious software is also placed in the archive with a mod. Now we will tell you where to download this archive from without risk to your computer.

Let's look at three sites that can be proud of the services they provide, because by downloading content, you will never introduce a virus to your computer. These sites are: GTAViceCity, LibertyCity and AR Mods.

It’s also worth noting that you can download “GTA: San Andreas” with mods installed.

Installing the mod: first method

Now let's move directly to how to correctly install the mod for the game "GTA: San Andreas". Now the first installation method will be presented, but not the only one. The method is the simplest and does not need to be mastered, but it still makes sense to talk about it here so that there are no additional questions left.

For example, let's look at installing a weapon mod that will be downloaded from the GTAViceCity website. This method will involve installation using an automatic launcher that does all the work for you.

So, when the user has entered the site, in the left panel in the “GTA: San Andreas” section, select “Weapons” in the “File” field. Now you should find and download the mod you like. As you can see, the archive will be downloaded next. Once downloaded, you don't even need to unpack it. Just open and double click on the file with the exe extension.

An automatic installation window for the mod will appear in front of you. All you need to do is specify the path to the game folder in the appropriate field. After you do this, all you have to do is click the “Install” button. If everything went well, the user will be notified with a message. After this, you can safely close the installer and launch the game.

Installing the mod: second method

Now let's move on to the second method of installing mods. Unlike the first one, it will be somewhat more complicated, but such mods are much more common, so you will definitely need to consider it. And we will look at the example of "GTA: San Andreas" on how to install car mods. This time we will use the LibertyCity website to download the mod. So, let's go to it and download the mod to the car from the corresponding section.

When the archive is downloaded to your computer, find it and unzip it to a convenient location. Be sure to remember the path to the files, since you will have to specify it later. In the meantime, you need to open the downloaded program called Crazy IMG Tools, which was mentioned at the beginning of the article.

In the window that opens, click on the “File” field, which is located on the top panel. From the menu, select the "Open" tab. Now you need to find the path to the file from the game directory for GTA3. To find it, enter the game folder and go to the Models location - that’s where the desired object is located. Select it and click the "Open" button.

Now on the top panel you need to select the “Edit” item, and in the menu - “Add with replacement”. A window will open in front of you again. This time we should pave the way to the previously downloaded files that we unzipped. So, go to the folder where they are located, select them and click on the “Open” button.

Now we need to rebuild the archive again. To do this, click the "File" button and click on the item of the same name. The system will definitely ask if you are sure that you want to rebuild the archive. You should select the answer “Yes” and click the “Save” button in the window that opens. This way the user confirms the replacement.

All you have to do is wait for the process to complete. This will be indicated by the inscription “Archive is open”, which is shown in the lower left corner of the window. If this is the case, then close the window and launch the game - the mod has been successfully installed.

By the way, in the same way you can install the “GTA: San Andreas” mod - parkour and your hero in the game will learn to perform beautiful acrobatic tricks.

Installing the mod on the sight

The next type of mod installation will be related to the sight. Using the manipulations described below, you can easily change the sight icon to your taste.

So, first of all, log into the site with this type of mod. In our case, Improve3d Crosshairs. Select the desired category and download the PNG image to your computer. Be sure to remember where you saved this file.

Now you will need to use the TXD Workshop program, which was presented at the beginning of the article. Having opened it, click on Open TXD, which is located on the top panel. In the window that opens, you need to navigate to the already familiar Models folder, which is located in the root folder of the game. There, this time you need to select the hud.txd file.

Now all the icons found in the game appear in the main program window. We only need one - the sight icon, find it under the name siteM16. Next, select the object and click on the “Import” button. As a result, a window will open. In it you need to pave the way to the downloaded sight. Click "Open" and the crosshair will be replaced. All that remains is to use the "Save TXD" button.

Changing fonts in the game

In general, we talked about installing mods, but finally we can briefly mention how you can install new fonts in the game. This operation is quite simple, and absolutely any user can handle it; at least, there is no need to download any additional programs.

So, find some font for the game on the Internet and download it to your computer. Make sure it is called fonts with a txd extension. Now open the game folder and go further to Models. Now copy and replace the downloaded file to this folder. So, in a few clicks, the font in the game was changed to a new one.

Because of the fear of “breaking” the game, not everyone is ready to download mods for GTA San Andreas, although in fact such a danger existed only at the dawn of modding, when every new modification was essentially an experiment: what would happen if this script was changed? What if you take and replace this model or texture?

Then, in the first years after the game’s release, there really was a danger of “messing up” and installing mods for GTA SA incorrectly. The installation was not yet proven at that time, and therefore the first and most important advice, which, by the way, is still relevant now, was the creation of backup copies of all files and the game distribution in general.

Now that our gaming community has long worked out all the basic modification schemes, you can download mods for GTA SA without any problems or risks: for cars, for new weapons, for new cars, for new character appearances (skins), for new missions, new game areas, new graphics and animations, improved interface and speedometers, rebalancing of all game parameters without exception, new scripts and features.

In addition, installation large quantity modding has now become much easier, because special file mod managers have appeared. They allow you to catalog and queue downloads for mods, which greatly increases the compatibility of different plugins. Such automatic mods for GTA San Andreas can greatly simplify life for those who want to get something new from the timeless hit from Rockstar Games, but are not well versed in technical details.

The file archive is divided into 13 large categories, each of which is responsible for its own gaming area. The most popular of them are CLEO scripts, new weapons, new missions and new textures.. Such diversity is not found anywhere in the entire RuNet!

Therefore, if you have never been into modding before and love Rockstar Games as much as we love them, then feel free to download the distribution and make the game of your dreams. Moderators and active users They will definitely answer you and tell you how to install and configure mods correctly, and also explain which of them are compatible with each other.

Beginner's Guide to Mods
This article reveals the properties of the main types of mods used in GTA: San-Andreas, provides instructions and tips for installing them. § 1. Theory

Structure of the root folder (root directory) of the game
The folder with the original game contains 7 folders, 6 files and 2 launch applications (also, depending on the manufacturer of the disk from which you installed the game, the folder may contain files or programs that have nothing to do with the game, for example, unzipping and etc.). First, let's look at the purpose of these folders and files.
Folder anim(animations) - this contains files with parameters for animations of peds and various processes. I have never seen any mods associated with this folder in my practice.
Folder audio(sounds) - all the sounds of the game are in this folder. You will deal with it when installing mods related to adding or replacing sounds, for example. animal fashion in the forest, handbrake sound or story mods with voice acting.
Folder data(data) is the most interesting folder, it contains files with parameters of weapons, vehicles, ped characteristics, water level, area maps, as well as game interface texts and names of areas. In it, in the script folder, there are files main.scm and script.img - the first defines the plot of the game, the second contains files with plot details (more about *.img format files - see below). It is clear that you will work with the data folder when installing new parameters, area maps and story mods.
Folder models(models) - here is the whole of San Andreas, textures. All mods related to skins, vehicles, weapons belong to this folder.
Folder movies(movies) - here are the initial videos of the game with developer logos and credits.
Folder ReadMe(read) - there is only one file, called ReadMe, in which the developers thank you for choosing their game and provide information about it.
Folder text(text) - it contains files that define the texts in the game - subtitles of videos and comments from peds. In a Russified game, Russian subtitles are determined by the file american.gxt. The stripped-down pirated versions contain only this (sometimes also spanish.gxt), so switching the language in them is impossible. Entire versions contain subtitles in other languages.
Files eax.dll, ogg.dll, vorbis.dll And vorbisFile.dll-application components (i.e. games) can be replaced when installing any global structural mods during the installation process; we will not work directly with them.
File stream.ini-it contains various data related to the game application being launched. This file is used when you need to optimize the game or change other parameters. It has nothing to do with installing mods.
Sixth, text file INSTALL, usually found in the game folder, contains information about installation, etc. It is of no interest to us.
Launched application gta_sa.exe-there’s nothing to talk about here; roughly speaking, this is the game.
Launched application Uninstall (Unins, UNWISE) - uninstallation program, removes the game.

A little about files
A mod is a modification of a game file. Therefore, you need to know the basic properties of these files so that in the future there will be fewer problems when working with them.
Elements of the GTA world, such as peds, weapons, vehicles, player skins, houses, roads, etc., are all three-dimensional images, i.e. have a virtual frame (shape) and coloring. For this reason, each element is divided into two files: a wireframe file and a coloring file.
Form files are in *.dff format. They can be viewed using the DFF Viewer program. Against the background of the interface, the color of which the user selects in the settings, the weapon (or ped) looks like a cluster of white stripes connecting into one shape.
The color of the element is in *.txd format. You can change the color of any object by editing such a file using the appropriate program. In this case, the shape of the element will remain the same.
Shape and color files for the same item have the same name. Their names correspond to the name of the item itself (for example, a Kalashnikov assault rifle is divided into files - ak47.dff And ak47.txd, Ryder is listed as ryder.dff And ryder.txd).
There are a huge number of elements that make up the game space; for a number of reasons they are collected into one file in the *.img format. This eliminates the possibility of accidental removal or damage to individual elements. img files can be viewed and edited using appropriate programs, the most popular of which is IMG Tool v.2.0(there is a Russified version of this program). In them, the elements are presented as a list of individual files.
Almost all mods related to character or object skins are associated with only two img files: gta3.img And player.img(in folder models). The first is the largest in size, it contains almost the entire San Andreas - houses, roads, peds, cars, weapons. IN player.img there are elements of Cj's appearance. The remaining img files contain details of cut scenes, visual effects and story script.
Animation mods for using weapons and shooting are also common. Animation scripts for all types of weapons are in the file gta3.img, have the extension *.ifp. For example, rifle.ifp is responsible for the animation of shooting from rifles (sniper, hunting and assault).
It is impossible not to mention the files for the parameters of vehicles, weapons and characteristics of peds - they are in *.dat format and are located in the folder data. The data in them is presented in the form of tables - on the left there is a column with the names of weapons, vehicles or peds, on the right there are columns with numerical data of parameters.

§ 2. Practice

To install mods, which are modifications of the original game files, you need two programs: Notebook(you have it, although it's better WordPad) And RUS(implies the Russified version of the program). Below are examples of instructions for installing such mods.

Setting the appearance of characters (peds)
In this case, our task is related to the file gta3.img(in folder models).
For example, you downloaded a zombie model. By default, it replaces the Ryder skin. In this case, the downloaded archive should contain files ryder.dff And ryder.txd. This means that in order to install the zombie model, you need to extract the files with Ryder and replace them with files with zombies. Just in case, you need to save the Ryder skin in some folder.
1) Extract files from the downloaded archive into My Documents.
2)Using IMG Tool open gta3.img;
3) When the file is downloaded and a list appears, click on the menu Edit function Find.
4) In the window that appears, write the name of the first file - ryder.dff, click "Find Next", the file is found.
5) Per line ryder.dff right-click (RMB), in the list that appears, click Extract. We indicate the path to the folder in which we will save the Ryder skin just in case.
6)Next, right-click again, in the list click Delete, confirm the deletion.
7) With file ryder.txd we do the same thing as with ryder.dff(see points No. 3-6).
8) Now the old Ryder skin has been moved to a safe place, all that remains is to add a new zombie skin in its place.
On the menu Teams click Add. We indicate the path to the zombie skin. First we add ryder.dff, then ryder.txd. Now that we have added zombie skins, close the program and everything is done.

Installing a shooting animation mod
Installing such a mod is the simplest - we do what is indicated in the previous example, but this time we need to replace only one file (for example, the previously mentioned rifle.ifp).

Transport installation
Installing the transport skin is the same as in the example with installing the ped skin - extract the old files to a safe place and install new ones instead.
However, some transport mods require changes in parameters - changing weight, wheel size, etc. Here you will have to deal with the folder data, files vehicles.ide, carcols.dat, carmods.dat or handling.cfg, or even with everyone together.
These files are opened using Notepad, their main and main contents are tables with the names of machines and the corresponding parameters (the developers have made it convenient for moderators to change parameters).
In the instructions ( readme), attached to the downloaded mod, should contain lines with new data, and it also indicates which line in the game files needs to be replaced. For example, in handling.cfg there is such a line -

BUFFALO 1500.0 4000.0 2.0 0.0 0.0 -0.1 85 0.7 0.9 0.5 5 200.0 28.0 5.0 R P 11.0 0.45 0
30.0 1.2 0.12 0.0 0.28 -0.24 0.5 0.4 0.25 0.50 35000 2800 10200000 1 1 0

and it must be replaced with

BUFFALO 1000.0 2500.0 2.9 0.0 0.0 -0.1 85 0.7 0.9 0.5 5 250.0 28.0 5.0 R P 11.0 0.45 0
30.0 1.2 0.25 0.9 0.28 -0.70 0.5 0.3 0.25 0.50 35000 2800 10200000 1 1 0

which is what you do using Notepad.
It’s even better if the author uploads the modified file directly, so as not to bother an inexperienced user with searching for the right line: inexperience can lead to damage to the file, so before you start installing the mod, copy the original to a safe place.

Weapon installation
Installing new weapon skins is the same as in the first example. However, as with transport, parameters may need to be changed. Weapon parameters are contained in the file weapon.dat(folder data). The weapon parameters in this file are given in the same way as those of the vehicle - a user-friendly table.
Following the instructions readme, find and replace the indicated lines (after copying the original weapon.dat to a safe place). Again, I repeat, for modmakers, it is advisable to include a ready-made modified file in the archive with a new weapon (or vehicle), in order to avoid the possibility of a newcomer damaging the game files!

Installing new player skins
Installing player skins (more precisely, elements appearance) is completely identical to the example with installing new peds. The only difference is that you will be dealing with player.img, and you will have to replace the coloring file-*.txd. That is, we open player.img, find the old skin, for example, tshirt.txd, remove it to a safe place, add a new one instead tshirt.txd.

Installing area maps
Mods that change the map of the area come in three types:
1) Simply adding or removing an element (for example, a fence, watchtower, or island). In this case, the files in the datamaps folder are replaced.
2) The skin of a building is changed or added (for example, the Kremlin). In this case, you need to replace or add certain files to gta3.img - as in the example with ped skins (see above).
3) A new skin of the building is changed or added, plus its location is specified (for example, the Kremlin is added, standing on an island far out to sea). Here you need to both replace/add the file to gta3.img and replace the map files in the datamaps folder.
It should be noted that modified map files are set ready-made; you just need to replace the corresponding ones with them (this is written in the instructions readme, attached to the downloaded mod).

More details about the parameters of weapons/vehicles/peds

Options in folder data There are many, but the parameters of the most important elements - weapons, vehicles, peds and water level - are of interest.
All files are tables on English language, which are not difficult for an experienced mod user to understand, but difficult for a beginner. Therefore, special ones have been developed. programs for each type of parameter, for example using the program Pedstats Viewer you can change the social characteristics of passers-by (cowardice, law-abidingness, temperament), as well as physical characteristics. properties - impact power, shooting accuracy, ability to defend. Pedstats Viewer adjusts the data in the file pedstats.dat(data folder).
By using Weapon Editor by Sadler v. 0.14 You can edit the weapon quite thoroughly. WITH WaterLevel you can change the ocean water level and wave height.

Installing story mods
Installing story mods comes down to replacing files main.scm And script.img in folder data/script, file american.gxt in folder text, and, if there is voice acting, adding files to audio. Some mods imply new screensavers when loading the game - replacing them is not particularly difficult, just follow the instructions readme.

§ 3. CLEO libraries

Mods can be quite varied, and for some existing mods, you would have to make a lot of small changes to the game, which is irrational. Changing a script here, adding a file there, adding a new function here is not something everyone can do, and it’s a tedious task. Therefore, the so-called CLEO libraries are special global mods that greatly simplify the installation and removal of various mods.
The essence of their functioning is the following: some game files are changed, due to which, roughly speaking, the game begins to interact, “listen” to the files located in the folder CLEO, a new folder in the game's root directory. Files are also added to the root folder of the game bass.dll, CLEO.asi, vorbisHooked.dll and reference book CLEO.chm.
Thanks to this library, a script/story modification can be formatted as a CLEO script and dropped into a folder CLEO. If necessary, the script can be removed from there. In folder CLEO there are two folders - CLEO_SAVES And CLEO_TEXT. The first one stores saves of any changes made using the script; CLEO saves are linked to the game saves. The second folder contains files containing text for the script, for example the interface of a function or a conversation in a cut scene.
Today the latest library is CLEO 4, you can download a special installer with which even an inexperienced noob can install the library into the game.
CLEO scripts have a *.cs extension. After downloading, you need to put them in a folder CLEO, and additions (text file) to the folder CLEO_TEXT. The game menu in the lower left corner displays the library version, as well as the number of loaded scripts.
CLEO scripts can introduce various features. From autopilot and the ability to light a cigar while sitting in the car to opening all the doors of houses that can be hacked and the ability to swim in a submarine. Simple scripts work quite reliably, but some can crash the game.

Here's a general outline of what every mod user should know. Various questions you can ask questions about their installation in the comments, the author will try to answer them to the best of his knowledge and experience.
