Although they say that nature doesn’t have bad weather, it’s only during a snowstorm or severe frost that you don’t feel like going for a walk. And I really want to know in advance what surprises to expect from Mother Nature: either to wrap myself more tightly in a fur coat, or to prepare for the warmth and slush. Many observations of our ancestors now make it possible to predict the weather quite accurately.
- Quiet water in a well in December means a calm, even winter, noisy water means frosts, storms and blizzards.
- If the snow falls in large flakes, no major frosts are expected in the coming days.
- The logs in the stove burn with a bang - the day will be frosty.
- Weak draft in the stove occurs on the eve of a snowfall, clear days will be replaced by cloudy ones.
- Snow creaks heavily underfoot - a sign of clear, sunny and frosty weather.
- The moon turned red at night - the wind and snowfall will intensify the next day.
- Circles around the moon foreshadow frost.
- A foggy circle near the sun on frosty days occurs before inclement weather or a blizzard.
- The clouds are coming low and fast - leading to cold weather.
- A clear sky means frost, a dull sky means thaw.
- The coniferous forest is noisy - a thaw.
- If hares come close to buildings and burrow into snowdrifts, expect long cold spells.
- If wolves come out to human habitation in early December, it means it will be a harsh winter.
- A crow walks along the road - to warming weather.
- If crows begin to fly in flocks in the evening, as if looking for a place to spend the night, expect a storm at night.
- If a dog rolls on the ground, sleeps a lot and eats little, expect snowfall and blizzards.
- A cat drinks a lot of water - this means bad weather.
- Magpies hover around houses, climb under the eaves - there will be a blizzard, sit on the snow - there will be a thaw.
