Technical characteristics of Nissan Patrol. Nissan Patrol Y62 – a lost world Comparison with competitors

The Nissan Patrol SUV is no less popular and legendary than the Toyota Land Cruiser. Throughout its history, Patrol has never changed its main features: angular design, strong frame, continuous axles, powerful and unpretentious engines. This was the case until the next sixth generation SUV of the Y62 series was presented.

The newcomer has been completely transformed. In particular, the design has become more rounded, but no less interesting, and classic axles have given way to independent suspension. The current Nissan Patrol is a new era in the history of the brand and a completely different ideology. However, the legendary car has practically not lost its unique off-road properties.

The salon will delight the owner with endless space, homeliness, a high level of comfort and excellent finishing materials. In the summer heat, fellow travelers will appreciate the insulated drawer in the center armrest, designed for cooling drinks. Access to the 6-liter “refrigerator” is organized from both the first and second rows of seats.

Engines

The Nissan Patrol is equipped with a 5.6-liter 8-cylinder gasoline engine in two modifications: VK56VD and VK56DE with a power of 405 (400) hp. and 317 hp respectively. A Japanese SUV with the most powerful and most advanced engine was officially supplied to the Russian market. The less powerful engine is identical to the unit used in the 2009 Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 (JA60).

The stronger one is the same one that was installed in the Infiniti QX56 (Z62) 2010 model year, and since 2014 in the Infiniti QX80 (Z62). The VK56 VD is equipped with a DIG direct fuel injection system, as well as a VVEL valve timing and lift control system. But all these tricks did not significantly reduce fuel consumption. And the engine itself often provokes owners to press the gas pedal once again. Therefore, few people have an 8-cylinder monster that consumes less than 25 liters per 100 km. However, if you adhere to the speed limit on the highway and drive at a constant speed without overtaking or stopping, it is quite possible to get a “fantastic” 15 liters.

Unfortunately, the magnificent power unit was not without flaws. One of them is a timing chain drive. Some owners encountered this problem without even traveling 15,000 km, others were struck by failure only after 100,000 km, and others only learned about the deficiency when approaching the 200,000 km mark. The manufacturer recognized the defect - a weak timing chain of the right bank of cylinders. The chain is additionally loaded by the fuel pump shaft high pressure(fuel pump), which leads to its stretching. The main sign of the disease is a squeal (like a grinder) after starting a cold engine, as the stretched chain begins to touch its inner sides. Some car enthusiasts, having heard a lot about a possible defect, began to be more careful about engine maintenance and “play” more gently with the gas pedal. But, as it turned out, taking care of the engine does not protect you from misfortune.

Repairs are not cheap. To replace it, you will have to completely disassemble the “face”, remove the entire frontal part of the engine and even dismantle steering rack. In the official service, for a full range of work with spare parts, they will ask about 150,000 rubles; in a regular service, you can spend about 60-80 thousand rubles. Since 2013, a modified chain began to be installed. It is worth noting that after professional repair and installation of a reinforced chain, there is no need to return to the unpleasant issue, unlike the injection pump.

The high pressure fuel pump, as a rule, caused problems (not all) closer to 100,000 km. However, some owners encountered its malfunction during a later run. The reason is a design and manufacturing flaw: the fuel injection pump rod is destroyed.

The cost of a new pump is almost 100,000 rubles! To this it is necessary to add exactly the same list installation work, as when replacing the timing chain, as well as directly preventive replacement of the chain drive. The result? At least 160,000 rubles in a regular service or 200,000 rubles in an authorized one!

The following defect is of a potential nature. Russian fuel destroys catalysts quite quickly (up to 100,000 km). As a result, the engine begins to operate intermittently, misfires occur, traction drops noticeably, and the malfunction indicator lights up. If you delay replacement, the catalyst may collapse, and its “remains” will end up in the engine, where they will cause irreparable damage to the cylinder walls. The cost of new catalysts is from 40,000 rubles. Many owners resort to preventive protection - cutting out the catalysts without waiting for trouble, followed by installing flame arresters, oxygen sensor emulators and reflashing the engine control unit.

The VK56VD and VK56DE motors use an electric cooling fan clutch. The clutch is controlled not by a bimetallic plate (as before), but by an electromagnetic valve. Some owners, after 150,000 km, encountered a malfunction of the electric clutch - it jammed and the fan began to spin like crazy. Sometimes it even came to his self-destruction.

Valve clearances are adjusted by selecting pushers.

Transmission

Paired with a 405-horsepower unit is a 7-speed automatic transmission RE7R01B. Unfortunately, the machine, although to a lesser extent, is also included in the list of possible unpleasant and expensive troubleshooting problems. His weakness– torque converter. Vibrations when starting, incorrect operation of the automatic transmission and jolts will indicate problems with it. Fortunately, repairing the torque converter will require less money than the engine: about 15,000 rubles directly for the “donut revision” and 20,000 rubles for dismantling/installation. The manufacturer, as in the case of the chain, later modified the problem unit.

Regulations Maintenance There is no provision for changing the oil in the automatic transmission. However, experienced mechanics recommend using common sense and still updating the working fluid at least once every 60,000 km.

One notable point cannot be ignored. Many owners have noted that the box freezes at a speed of 140 km/h (the speed stops increasing). This happens during acceleration after a long period of movement at a constant speed of about 100 km/h. According to experts, this is how the algorithm for protecting the box from overheating is organized. Fortunately, this feature does not always appear.

All-wheel drive system

All Nissan Patrols are equipped with an AWD/4WD all-wheel drive system and a new ATX90A transfer case. The transmission has three basic operating modes: Auto, 4H and 4L. In the “AUTO” mode, torque is distributed between the front (0-50%) and rear axle (0-100%) depending on road conditions - the car remains predominantly rear-wheel drive. In “4H” mode, torque is distributed between the axles in a ratio of 50:50 and can be used up to a speed of 100 km/h. A lower gear ratio is available in “4L” mode, intended exclusively for off-road use. Switching on is only possible when the vehicle is completely stationary. If necessary, you can additionally engage the rear differential lock. The transmission units do not have any typical problems or malfunctions.

Chassis

The Nissan Patrol Y62 became the first production car equipped with HBCS - a hydraulic body stabilization system. Previously, the system found wide application and worked well in rally cars. It plays the role of shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. HBCS consists of 4 shock absorbers and 2 hydraulic accumulators connected to each other by hydraulic lines.

The unique system is quite reliable. Only over time can the pressure in the system drop (after 150,000 km), which leads to an increase in the “mobility” of the body (leaning, rolling, swaying). Correcting the situation is quite simple: you need to replace the hydraulic fluid and set the operating pressure in the system. In some cases, an undiagnosed source of knocking in the suspension disappeared after adjusting the pressure, which was below the permissible level.

However, the presence of a hydraulic stabilization system complicates the process of replacing shock absorbers. Fortunately, the stands last a long time. In general, the chassis of the Nissan Patrol is quite durable. The first serious interventions are usually required at 150-200 thousand km.

But the steering begins to bother owners much earlier. The reason for the complaints is knocking and play in the steering wheel even during the first 100,000 km. The source of trouble is the lower intermediate steering shaft. The cost of a new element is 15,000 rubles. Some people had to change it several times.

Body and interior

The body was not spared from flaws either. In particular common problem corrosion of the trunk door in the area of the chrome plate on the license plate. In addition, the exposed metal on the chips soon begins to rust. A similar unpleasant picture can sometimes be seen on the roof. In addition, after some time the varnish coating will peel off from the chrome door handles.

The first owners were massively faced with another ailment - incorrect operation of the glass closer. As a rule, a malfunction arose and was eliminated during the warranty period.

Among the minor shortcomings is a creaking noise in the cabin. Its source is the outer plastic trim at the bottom of the windshield. The lid of the refrigerator compartment also creaks from time to time. In both cases, “sizing” helps.

Some owners note that when the ease of entry/exit system is turned on (the seat and steering wheel move away), the settings for the initial position of the steering wheel are lost over time: the steering column lowers. As a result, you have to re-set the specified position.

With age, another defect that was expensive to eliminate appeared. When used in salty winter conditions, the rear air conditioner circuit tubes located under the bottom rot. The cost of restoration is about 50,000 rubles. The high cost is due to the peculiarities of laying the line (between the body and the frame) and the complexity of the replacement procedure.

VIN number

You can find the VIN number on the right side of the frame under the front passenger door, under the windshield on the driver's side and on a plate affixed to the bottom of the left B-pillar.

Conclusion

Summing up, I would like to note the main thing - not all Nissan Patrols present these problems. Among the owners there are quite a few who have crossed the 200,000 km mark without any hassle. In addition, “sores” are typical mainly for pre-restyling modifications of 2010-2013. It is too early to judge how much the situation has changed since the release of the updated model, but the number of unscheduled requests has decreased significantly. Charismatic appearance, rich interior, excellent handling and incredible dynamics - these are the main trump cards of the Patrol of the new era.

Updated Jun 11, 2019

Updated Nissan Patrol 6 began selling in Russia at the beginning of 2014. This luxury SUV has a powerful 5.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 405 hp, which is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. With such an engine, fuel consumption is about 20 liters, which makes the car affordable for well-to-do people, as does its price.

Among the advantages can be noted four-wheel drive with rear differential lock, luxurious interior with multimedia system, the latest intelligent safety and driver assistance systems, huge ground clearance of 27.5 cm and more. All this makes the SUV prestigious, in which you begin to feel special.

Nissan Patrol 6 review:

The first generation model began production back in 1951. Until now the car managed to change 8 times. Years of production of different generations:

New Nissan Patrol y62 began selling in Russia in February 2014. It is produced in Japan, and large-scale assembly for Russia takes place in St. Petersburg. The car is very popular in the United Arab Emirates. In Russia it is called Patrol or Patrol.

Over the many years of its existence, it has become a legendary car and has attracted the attention of many off-road enthusiasts. In the latest model, the y62 has undergone major changes and acquired more modern body shapes. Manufacturers have also equipped it with the latest intelligent electronic systems. An automatic transmission with synchronized speed when switching, together with a powerful engine, makes driving an SUV particularly enjoyable.

Dimensions and availability free space in Patrol will impress even the most demanding car owner. There is a lot of space inside the car, and various boxes and drawers that can cool their contents will be very useful on a long journey. But there is no space for many small items; there are few small compartments and niches.

Interior:

The interior of the SUV is very spacious, high quality upholstery materials, pleasant to the touch and look, create a feeling of comfort and luxury. The front seats are very comfortable; the driver does not get tired on a long journey. The only thing is that if the position is incorrect, your neck may get a little tired. This can be eliminated by correctly adjusting the driver's headrest. The visibility is good in all directions, so the dimensions are well felt.

When the ignition is turned off and the driver's door is opened, the steering wheel moves up and the seat moves back, making it easier to get out of the car. When landing and turning on the ignition, the steering wheel moves into place, and the seat returns forward to the same position.

In the back seats It is also very spacious, passengers feel very comfortable. But the trunk is not very convenient. When the third row of seats is folded, the floor of this compartment is tilted, so on bumps, things placed in this place move towards the fifth door.

Thanks to good sound insulation The sound of the engine in the cabin is almost inaudible. The standard BOSE audio system and 13 speakers allow you to achieve high quality sound. The built-in server allows you to store a large amount of music and video files. Passengers in the second row can relax on the road by watching videos on screens built into the headrests (on the top trim level).

Engine:

The only one available petrol engine VK56VD with a volume of 5.6 liters reaches a maximum torque of a significant 560 Nm at 4000 rpm. It is quite power hungry and only works in conjunction with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption during quiet driving around the city is about 20 liters.

With frequent accelerations, this value can exceed 30. The computer does not show consumption above 30 liters. Recommended fuel for refueling is AI-98 gasoline. The on-board computer keeps statistics. For example, you can display a graph of fuel consumption by month, which will help you understand the increase or decrease in consumption for different driving styles.

The acceleration dynamics are simply amazing; reaching speed of 100 km/h takes only 6.6 seconds. Not every SUV can boast of this fast acceleration. The brake system works well and properly. This is important for stopping such a heavy vehicle at high speed.

in winter The interior takes quite a long time to warm up, and there are no problems starting the engine.

In the city The all-round cameras are very helpful; with them, given their size, parking in the courtyards of high-rise buildings is very convenient. On the road, when changing lanes in tight traffic, other drivers willingly give way. At traffic lights at the start, thanks to the excellent acceleration dynamics, almost all the “neighbors” are left behind. If you use maximum acceleration, you press very hard into the seat and at first take your breath away.

On the track, overtaking and other maneuvers are absolutely easy. At high speed the car drives confidently and is stable in corners. At almost any speed there is a good reserve of power, allowing you to accelerate sharply if necessary. Patrol easily picks up speed of 180-190 km/h.

There is a hydraulic system for damping body vibrations, thanks to which rolls in corners are minimal, and they are not felt in the cabin. Suspension The SUV's ride is a bit harsh, but at the same time the car moves very smoothly. At cruising speed it can be compared to the movement of a boat or yacht through the water - also softly and confidently.

Four-wheel drive connects automatically on slippery surfaces, or manually. When all-wheel drive is turned off, torque is transmitted to the rear wheels. In winter, it is better to engage 4WD manually, because the connection of the front wheels to the traction may occur with a slight delay. As a result, driving a heavy vehicle becomes much more difficult.

With active 4WD and correct selection winter tires There shouldn't be any special problems. But do not forget about the heavy weight, due to which the braking distance on compacted snow becomes longer.

Controllability:

Off-road The car behaves very confidently and copes with almost any reasonable obstacles. This allows for a high ground clearance of 275 mm and a fording depth of as much as 70 cm. Large wheels with a radius of R20 in the Top and High trim levels make off-road driving even more confident. It is better to use special tires rather than road tires.

When replacing wheels and tires, the intervention of service engineers is required in order to “register” the tire pressure sensors in a new way. It is better not to drive into difficult places like swamps and deep snowdrifts. Given the large mass, this may end in helpless “floundering.” There are 4 driving modes: asphalt, sand, snow and stones.

The presence of electronic systems makes the SUV safe and modern. Electronics monitors many parameters traffic and, for example, if you deviate from driving in your lane, it will immediately notify you about it.

Such systems are designed to warn the driver against driving into the oncoming lane, monitor the situation on the road and report possible collisions. Moreover, if you do not take timely measures to slow down or avoid a car that appears on your way, Patrol will do it for you, slowing down the car and minimizing the consequences of the collision. Of course, you shouldn’t completely rely on such systems, because the driver still has the main role in control. They just make it easier to manage.

Summary: reliable, powerful and luxurious SUV for wealthy people.

Like it: lovers of luxury, travel and long-distance trips, hunters and fishermen, large and wealthy families.

Don't like it: “opponents” of automatic transmission.

5 / 5 ( 1 voice )

The Nissan Patrol is a Japanese full-size SUV produced by Nissan since 1951. The model is quite popular in many countries. The main rival can be called. In the North American market, the car competes with luxury Japanese SUVs in the niche. The entire Nissan lineup.

Car history

First generation (1951-1960)

When September 1951 arrived, the 4W60 version was released, which the plant workers called the Nissan Store. A little later it was renamed the Nissan Bluebird Store. The 4W60 had a 75-horsepower 3.7-liter Nissan NAK power unit from the Nissan 290 bus.

In addition, there was plug-in all-wheel drive and a four-speed manual transmission. The radiator grille received a steel nameplate. On top of that, they developed a 4W70 transporter version. Later, the 4W60 was replaced in construction by the 4W61 model. This happened in the summer of 1955.

The new product was close to the debut model, except for the radiator grille, solid windshield, chrome stripes on the hood and seats of various sizes (the passenger seat was slightly wider than the driver’s seat). Other significant changes affected the power plant.

The 1955 car was equipped with a new 3.7-liter Nissan NB engine, developing 92 horsepower. After a while, it was replaced by a 105-horsepower 4.0-liter Nissan NC engine. The NISSAN nameplate itself on the radiator grille was painted red, with a chrome lettering and edging. When October 1958 arrived, a replacement called 4W65 came out.

4W65

Apart from the radiator grille and modified front fenders and hood, the 4W65 version was similar to the 4W61. The "NISSAN" name remained on the grille, and "Patrol" name badges were added to the side of the hood.

You could buy the WG4W65 version, which was an 8-seat station wagon with a folding hardtop. A short series of 4W66 Patrol was released at the end of 1959. There was one difference - these versions had 4.0-liter engines producing 125 “horses”. Production ceased in the summer of 1960.

WG4W65

The off-road version of the car had a utilitarian, however, reliable design - a powerful ladder-type frame, the wheels of which were attached to a dependent suspension “in a circle”. Leaf springs have also found their place. The 1st generation Nissan Patrol off-road vehicle received a hydraulic brake system with drum mechanisms on all wheels.

At that time, the Japanese did not install power steering. In general, the Nissan Patrol of the 1st family was purchased mainly for the armies and law enforcement agencies of various countries. “Civilian” versions can only be found in private configurations.

Second generation (1959-1980)

The new product (at that time) debuted in 1960 and replaced the “4WXX” line in construction. The SUV was produced in series until 1980 without significant design changes. But modest improvements nevertheless found their place, and they were regular.

In total, Japanese workers produced and released more than 170,000 copies of the sixtieth series. The second generation Patrol was offered in 6 body versions, which included an open top, a station wagon version with a removable steel top, a version with a long wheelbase and 3 doors, a pickup truck, a fire truck and a chassis for special vehicles.

The second Nissan Patrol family was equipped with a 6-cylinder 4.0-liter naturally aspirated diesel engine, which developed no more than 130 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. At the very beginning, the “engine” worked together with a three-speed manual gearbox, and after a while it was replaced by a four-speed manual gearbox.

The Jeep had an all-wheel drive system without a center differential. The front wheels could be connected, and the transfer case had a couple of rows of gear ratios. If we talk about the structural part of the car, it has not undergone significant changes in relation to the previous generation.

There is the same powerful ladder-type frame, dependent suspension on two axles, leaf springs and full-fledged drum brakes on 4 wheels. It is almost impossible to see the second generation Nissan Patrol with your own eyes, since very few cars were able to survive in good condition to this day.

At the time of its production, the model was famous for its indestructible body, excellent off-road characteristics and high-torque power unit.

Third generation (1980-1989)

In the autumn of 1980, the Nissan Patrol 3 SUV with the index “160” was officially presented at the Paris car show. The car was in demand not only among civilians, but also in the service of the armed forces different countries. Moreover, the third generation Nissan Patrol was used during United Nations peacekeeping operations.

A similar model of the Patrol was produced until 2003 (in the form of the 260 version since 1986), despite the release of the next generation of the vehicle in 1987. The third generation Patrol is a full-size SUV available in three-door soft-top, five-door all-metal, and two- and four-door pickup trucks.

As technical equipment, the car received one of 6 power units, depending on which modification is used in this case. Of these, 5 are diesel naturally aspirated turbocharged four-cylinder variants, as well as V-shaped six-cylinder ones, the volume of which varies from 2.8 to 3.3 liters.

The engines develop from 95 to 125 “horses”. In addition, the engineers provided a gasoline version, represented by an inline four-cylinder 2.8-liter “aspirated” engine developing 121 horsepower. There are 2 transmission options to choose from: a five-speed manual or a three-speed robotic gearbox.

The model could be either with rear-wheel drive or with all-wheel drive. In this case, the wheels installed in front are connected manually using a clutch, and an inter-wheel differential of increased friction is used at the rear. In terms of technical components, the Nissan Patrol 3 family has not changed dramatically when compared with previous families.

There is a frame body structure and a dependent suspension with rigid axles on springs. According to Nissan Patrol reviews from owners, many note the reliable design, high-torque power plants, excellent cross-country ability, an acceptable degree of maintainability, a spacious interior and good equipment.

There were some drawbacks: the car received a stiff suspension, a high price for original parts, a small amount of free space for rear passengers and poor sound insulation.

Fourth generation – Y60 (1987-1997)

The fourth series of Nissan Patrol with the value Y60 appeared on the market in 1987, and its production was launched at a Japanese plant. Russians are quite familiar with jeeps like this one, which have a square body; at the end of the 1980s they were imported by barter into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The models existed until 1997, after which the 4th family was replaced by the 5th.

The 4th generation Patrol model in Japan began to be called Safari. Such machines were equipped with a 24V on-board network instead of the standard 12V.

The fourth generation Nissan Patrol was offered in 5 versions: hardtop, high hardtop, station wagon version, pickup truck and high van. The models were equipped with a wide range of in-line 6-cylinder power units. For example, the 1994 Nissan Patrol could come with naturally aspirated gasoline engines with a volume of 3.0 to 4.2 liters, which produced from 136 to 184 “horses” and from 224 to 320 Nm of torque.

There were also diesel engines with a volume of 2.8–4.2 liters, which developed 92–170 Horse power and 170–363 Nm of ultimate thrust. The “engines” were synchronized with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission transmission Engineers equipped the SUV with rear-wheel drive or all 4-wheel drive, where there was a limited-slip differential and a rear differential lock.

The modern Nissan Patrol car is distinguished among its classmates by its increased cross-country ability and all-wheel drive, which is why many car enthusiasts love the model as a professional SUV.

When August 1993 arrived, fuel consumption on TD42 engines was reduced. However, this entailed an undesirable drop in the power of the power plant. The unique “engine” had a silver cylinder head cover, and the new unit stood out in black. The placement of the vacuum pump on the engine has been changed. On top of that, driver airbags began to be installed on some European version cars.

In 1995, the car underwent a modest restyling, where the front grille was redesigned. The structural basis of the Nissan Patrol 4 included a spar frame and dependent spring suspension on both axles, where an anti-roll bar was installed on the front and rear axles.

The steering wheel was controlled using a hydraulic booster. All wheels already at that time had disc brakes, and the front ones were ventilated.

The jeep has many good qualities, which include a simple and reliable design, a powerful frame, excellent off-road performance, affordable service, a fairly roomy interior and acceptable equipment. However, many people don't like the fact that it has a stiff suspension, high fuel consumption, a mediocre automatic transmission and uncomfortable seats.

Fifth generation – Y61 (1997)

The automobile company Nissan Motor Company Ltd is credited with many wonderful cars. Among them is the Japanese Nissan Patrol of the 5th generation, which stands out clearly among similar models in its niche.

The best compliment for the Patrol is that in all the troubled and roadless parts of the Earth, United Nations workers use these very vehicles during their missions. It is worth noting that the vehicle deserves such responsibility and fully justifies itself.

Since 1997, the Japanese company began producing the Nissan Patrol of the 5th family. When 2004 arrived, the car was modernized. Many people call the Patrol Y61 a real SUV, which has a masculine character and brutal appearance. This is eloquently confirmed by the appearance and interior of the SUV.

His entire appearance shows his conservative and indifferent attitude towards automotive fashion, since the model was designed to work in remote areas, and he did not care about any pretentious innovations. Even a child can easily describe the car’s appearance: large, square in shape, but simple.

In the interior space, the car also does not have refined elements, especially when comparing the jeep with the modernized cars of competitors. There is no wood, soft leather, chrome and V-shaped eight-cylinder super-engine. Perhaps for this reason it loses sales to all its rivals.

Quite unusual, but those who buy such cars are happy, as they feel free from their own and have no desire to pay 1.5 times more for slightly more comfortable interior details, smoother body lines and a pair of modern headlights. Inside the car, everything looks banal, but all the elements are located where they belong.

The interior design of the fifth generation Nissan Patrol is quite good. You can complain a little about the lack of visibility of the mirror that is installed inside the car, but this shortcoming is compensated for by large side mirrors. Although it is worth saying that the modernization that took place in 2004 nevertheless added a little freshness to the interior design. The quality of the plastic used has increased, and the color solutions have become more interesting.

The “fifth Patrol” is based on a classic, corrosion-resistant frame structure, to which continuous axles and dependent suspensions are attached. This type of base is ideal for heavy off-road use. The all-wheel drive system can be connected. The machine has a locking rear cross-axle differential, which, due to its simplicity, is quite reliable during operation.

The Japanese SUV inspires confidence, respect and a sense of security. Anyone who has ever driven in this car felt that it was not killing itself. When serious bumps appear in front of the car, the suspension responds to them harshly. To turn around, a considerable radius is required, which characterizes a large base.

The car handles great in a straight line. However, the car reluctantly changes the direction of its movement - this is felt when there is a delay in responding to steering wheel commands. The weight of the 5th generation Nissan Patrol Y61 is 2.5 tons. The luggage compartment volume is 810 liters of usable space.

Under the hood is a 4.8-liter inline six-cylinder 245-horsepower engine with a five-speed automatic transmission. All this allows the car to accelerate to 190 kilometers per hour. They also provided a 3.0-liter diesel unit, which produces about 160 “horses”. It is paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Consumption is very immodest - about 15 liters outside the city, and in urban mode even 25 liters per hundred kilometers for a gasoline power unit. As for the diesel version, it is a little more modest - 14/9 liters for every hundred kilometers, respectively.

Sixth generation (2010–present)

The sixth generation Nissan Patrol is the same beloved SUV with all-wheel drive, which was once again presented to the public at an exhibition in the UAE in 2010. Since then, this model has begun to actively spread throughout the world.

In the specification, this car is listed under the index Y62. Compared to previous generations, the sixth has undergone significant changes not only in design, but also in the technical part. Below you can find information about the Nissan Patrol technical specifications.

Exterior

If we say that the 6th generation of the Nissan Patrol SUV turned out to be large, then this will not be true, because the car turned out to be simply huge. Walking around the car, you never cease to be amazed not only by its solid body dimensions, but also by the smooth lines and sophistication of the forms of the off-road vehicle.

You really get the feeling that in front of you is a cruise yacht, the purpose of which is not to sail on water, but to move along the land surface of the Earth. Thanks to the roof rails, an auxiliary luggage compartment can be installed. The nose of the car looks like a large chest of drawers from an expensive furniture set with a massive tabletop and a stylish frame for the radiator grille in a chrome frame.

There are also slanted headlights, a compact bumper trimmed at the bottom and fog lamp spotlights complemented for the whole picture. Thanks to the structure of the front bumper, you can not only climb high curbs and increase the geometric cross-country ability of the car, but also demonstrate to everyone the strong arms of the front suspension, the thickness of which is like a bodybuilder’s forearm.

From the side, the SUV has classic flat roof lines and sills, huge wheel arches where large wheels can be placed, and in the basic version there are 20-inch rollers. There are smooth contours and puffy surfaces of the wings and doors.

The large dimensions of the doorways, which have a rectangular shape, together with the side steps not only add solidity to the car, but also serve as excellent assistants when getting the driver and passengers into an SUV, which is quite large.

In general, it’s hard to say that people are getting into the car, because you simply walk into the 6th generation Nissan Patrol, only bowing your head a little, as if bowing respectfully to the car. Although the food seems quite simple, if you look at it more closely, you realize that it is not only attractive, but also functional.

The rear tailgate is electrically operated (only the entry model does not have this convenience option). Thanks to it, you have access to the huge hold of the Nissan Patrol 6 family off-road vehicle.

The new SUV looks like a chic and expensive car, which is partly achieved with the help of a special ambience with an abundance of chrome elements, which include the presence of roof rails, glass frames, door handles, ventilation holes located on the front fenders, and a strip on the rear door for the luggage compartment.

The body color will be available in basic black. For 28,000 rubles you can paint the car in one of white, silver, grey, gray-green, light beige or purple. Also, the rear part has a spoiler, which protects the rear window from dirt and improves the car's streamlining, which, in turn, reduces fuel consumption at high speeds. Of course, he is not able to strongly press this heavy car. Nissan Patrol dimensions are described below. The same article contains information about the fuel consumption of the Nissan Patrol.

Body dimensions are as follows:

  • Length 5140 mm;
  • Width 1995 mm;
  • Height 1934 mm;
  • Wheelbase 3075 mm;
  • Ground clearance 274 mm.

Interior

When you sit behind the steering wheel of the Nissan Patrol of the 6th family, you immediately notice the leather upholstery of the seats, door panels and almost the entire front panel. The interior is so luxurious that it can outperform its closest rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser. The seats received, in addition to being equipped with electric drives, lumbar support adjustment, which also operates using an electric drive.

The driver's seat can be raised so high that even a short person can see the right and left corners of the hood, which is very useful given difficult terrain. In order to start the power unit of the Nissan Patrol 6 SUV, you need to keep the key fob in your bag or somewhere nearby and press the start/stop button.

The steering wheel was covered with leather and contains 4 spokes, which once again reminds us what a solid car we are in. The multimedia system comes with a screen that supports touch input, which is something the Patrol's closest rivals lack. A considerable number of cars are tinted, but if the driver needs to drive towards the sun, then you can use sun visors, which are very large in this SUV.

Those people sitting in the back are given just a lot of free space. I would also like to mention the climate system for the rear row, or, to be more precise, the air deflectors. They were placed above the doorway, which is a bit like going to a store, when after entering it, warm or cold air blows from above.

The manufacturer assures that such a solution makes it possible to improve the air conditioning efficiency of the entire SUV interior. The climate system unit in the car is located in the rear wall of the box between the seats installed in front. The rear seat backs can be adjusted thanks to a servo drive, which also makes the car more status.

The SUV also has a third row of seats, which is perfect for family people. However, despite the fact that the Patrol is large, there is not enough free space in the third row. However, provision is made for the presence of armrests and cup holders in the very last places.

The interior was made of very high quality, solid, expensive and elegant. The materials correspond to the premium class, there is black or beige leather, carpet, wood inserts on the front panel, center console, tunnel and door panels. After getting into the Nissan Patrol 6, you immediately want to check if your shoes are clean, so as not to dirty such a beautiful interior.

The front two seats have heating and ventilation functions. Thanks to barely noticeable lateral support rollers, the driver or passenger will feel confident during sharp turns and when driving off-road. The seat, along with the steering column and mirrors, are electrically driven and have the option of remembering specified settings.

The leather steering wheel looks large, the radii of the instrument panel look quite strict, but they are pleasantly diluted by the color display of the on-board computer. All devices are distinguished by their information content and readability. The color touch display can display all the necessary information from the navigation system and cameras that provide panoramic visibility.

Setting up the navigation system and cameras can be done on a convenient block that is placed below the screen. Under the block, a Bose music system with support for CD, MP3, DVD, USB, iPod, designed for 13 speakers, has found its place. The three-zone climate control setting unit is installed below all of them.

Multifunctional color touch display

The first row of seats allows the driver and the passenger sitting next to them to sit comfortably, even with considerable dimensions. The second row has a heated option and seats 3 people. There is also plenty of space, as if in a limousine. The third row allows you to sit as if on a hill, opening up a wide passage.

Sitting in the 3rd row is quite comfortable, but sitting is not so comfortable with bent knees. Therefore, there is only room for a couple of people, but the width of the room is enough for three. Information about Nissan Patrol technical specifications can be found below.

Comfort in the cabin:

  • Power steering with automatic speed control;
  • Power steering;
  • Multifunctional leather steering wheel;
  • Cruise control with control buttons on the steering wheel;
  • Steering wheel audio controls;
  • Rain sensor;
  • Engine start/stop button;
  • Electric side mirrors;
  • Side mirror settings memory;
  • Electric folding rear view mirrors;
  • Electric tailgate;
  • Electric steering column;
  • Driver seat memory.

Specifications

Power unit

Speaking about the power plant, I would like to say that the Japanese did not invent anything new here and installed an already proven powerful 32-valve 5.6-liter V8 engine, which has a system for regulating valve timing and valve opening degree (VVEL), and a direct fuel injection system ( DIG), which makes it possible to make maximum use of the design capabilities of the power unit.

It allows the use of 405 horsepower at 5,800 rpm. At 4,000 rpm, a torque limit of 56 Nm is reached. The first hundred is reached in 6.6 seconds, and the top speed is 210 kilometers per hour.

Average gasoline consumption, according to the developers, will be about 14.5 liters for every 100 kilometers, but, judging by the experience of the previous pre-restyling model, it is still necessary to rely on the figure of 16.0 liters.

Independent tests show that in urban areas with traffic jams the car requires about 22 liters. On the highway, the figure drops to 12-13 liters, depending on the speed.

Transmission

The operation of the engine is synchronized only with a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The technical component of the 6th generation Nissan Patrol includes a new body with a reinforced frame built into the power body structure, and an All Mode 4x4 all-wheel drive transmission.

Thanks to the electromagnetic clutch, which is responsible for engaging the front axle, it is possible, depending on the road, to drive in one of three modes, which are selected by the driver using the tuning wheel located on the central tunnel.

  • Automatic mode - torque is sent to the front axle using electronics, depending on how the rear wheels slip.
  • 4H - the clutch is rigidly locked, and the result is permanent all-wheel drive.
  • 4L – in addition to blocking the clutch, a lower gear is engaged (used for difficult off-road conditions).

You can also press the button and turn on the cross-axle differential lock of the rear axle. You can even select the required adjustments to the operation of the gearbox on the road, rocks, sand, mud or snow.

Suspension

The engineering staff provided for the presence of an original system that works with body roll when turning and body vibrations when driving on difficult surfaces (HBMC). Also Last update, which came to the 6th Nissan Patrol family, allows you to better cope with large rolls at high speeds.

It turns out that, despite its impressive size, the off-road vehicle, as before, and most likely even better, began to handle well and is distinguished by its information content. Both front and rear have an independent double wishbone suspension.

Brake system

The machine has a reliable disc brake system with ventilation function on all wheels. In addition, various electronic assistants are provided.

Crash test

Despite its long history, the Japanese vehicle has been subjected to a large number tests, but only the 5th and 6th families were able to get the long-awaited 5 stars. According to the results of the Nissan Patrol crash test according to Euro NCAP, the results exceeded all expectations.

The safety level for an adult passenger is 90 percent, for pedestrians - 75 percent, for a child - 85 percent. Active safety at 89 percent. On top of that, the car was able to win 5 stars in the following tests.

A frontal collision into a deforming barrier at a speed limit of 64 kilometers per hour, an impact into a side pillar at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour, a collision with a pole at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour and an accident with pedestrian dummies at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. Frontal impact was rated 4 out of 5 stars. As for the legs of the driver and the passenger sitting in front, everything is in order.

Comparison with competitors

Due to the fact that the Nissan Patrol was able to move from the group of serious SUVs to the army of large and pretentious SUVs, it is necessary to talk about its competitors. This is with a cost of 2,680,000 rubles, Chevrolet Tahoe, Infiniti QX56, the price of which is 700,000 rubles more than the price of Nissan.

In addition, this includes the Mercedes-Benz GL, the cost of which starts at 3,000,000 rubles and its main worst competitor from the same Japan - the cost of the latest model is about 2,942,000 rubles.

The Japanese SUV Nissan Patrol is a real legend that has conquered the whole Earth. It appeared back in 1951; to date, six modifications of this car have been released. Its comfort, thanks to its frame design, is combined with excellent off-road performance, which requires powerful and reliable engines. That is why for Nissan Patrol owners the issue of fuel consumption per 100 km always remains relevant. The car is equipped with a wide range of gasoline and diesel power units, each of which has its own advantages.

Nissan Patrol RD28 2.8 l

A 2.8 liter diesel engine with a power of 129 horsepower is installed on the fifth generation Patrol. With it, it reaches a maximum speed of 150 km/h, which is not so bad for such a heavy car, in addition, it turned out to be reliable and unpretentious. The fuel consumption of this engine reaches 15 liters per 100 km in the city, on the highway this figure drops to 9 liters, an average of 11.6 liters.

Owner reviews

  • Alexander, Nizhny Tagil. I bought a 2001 Nissan Patrol with a 2.8-liter diesel engine. The car is not bad, but driving over rough terrain causes the body to rot and requires timely repairs. As for consumption - in the city I get up to 16 liters, on the highway, if you go within 120 km/h up to 10 liters.
  • Anatoly, Ulyanovsk. I bought a diesel Patrol back in 2000. The volume of 2.8 liters is quite enough to feel normal in city traffic with a full interior and a loaded trunk. Consumption is no more than 16 liters in any weather in the city, on the highway you can achieve 9 liters, but if you drive normally, it will be 10 liters per 100 km.
  • Andrey, Lipetsk. Since the relatively small volume is alarming to a potential buyer, there was a discount in the showroom for the 2.8 diesel, which I took advantage of. And I didn’t regret it - the engine pulls well, in the city and off-road the consumption is from 14 to 16 liters, on the highway no more than 9 liters.

Nissan Patrol ZD30 3.0 l

A 3.0 diesel engine with a power of 160 horsepower accelerates the car to 160 km/h, and the consumption time to hundreds is 16.3 seconds. It is quite powerful and feels good off-road. At the same time, the Patrol with a three-liter diesel engine consumes too much fuel. Consumption on the highway is only 9 liters per 100 km, in the city or on off-road it increases to 13.9 liters, and in the combined cycle - 10.8 liters.

Real consumption

  • Yaroslav, Smolensk. Buying a Nissan Patrol was a dream that I realized in 2004. Despite the fact that the car is expensive to maintain, I am satisfied. I can go hunting and fishing all year round without any problems, and I don’t spend more than 12 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km, which is very good for such a barn.
  • Stepan, Magnitogorsk. I have always been attracted by the technical characteristics of Nissan cars, so when deciding which SUV to take, I immediately chose the Patrol. The car is very comfortable and passable. Consumption is expectedly quite high, off-road up to 16 liters, in the city 14, on the highway 9.5.
  • Alexander, Khabarovsk. I took my Patrol in 2007 from scratch - a 3 DI Aventura five-door SUV. During all this time I only changed consumables – filters and oil; I had to tinker with the undercarriage for some small things. Everything else is excellent, a comfortable and fairly unpretentious car, average consumption is around 11 liters, although I didn’t drive it into the deep wilds. Diesel is not a problem provided winter fuel is used.

Nissan Patrol TD42 4.2

The most popular version of the fifth generation Nissan Patrol is a 4.2-liter 145 horsepower diesel engine. It accelerates the car to 155 km/h, or first hundred in 14 seconds, and has performed well in city mode and off-road. Fuel consumption on the Nissan Patrol of this version is quite high, in the city it takes up to 20 liters of diesel fuel, on the highway you can fit 11 liters per 100 km, and in the combined cycle it turns out to be 14.5 liters.

The owners write

  • Dmitry, Syzran. This car has many advantages, one of them is a high-torque 4.2-liter engine. I drove my Nissan Patrol where it was even impossible to pass, the car feels good on the highway and in the city. I don't like the hard, rattling plastic interior. The average consumption is about 16 liters, which I think is a bit much.
  • Andrey, Tula. I have a 4.2 liter Patrol diesel - an excellent car, in my opinion, a very worthy option for any man. I don’t understand the owners who write about the high cost of maintenance; I repair it myself, and it doesn’t suit my pocket. Yes, city consumption in winter can reach 22 liters, but you have to pay for reliability and power.

Nissan Patrol TD42 DTTI

Cars of this modification are equipped with other versions of the 4.2 liter diesel engine, boosted to 160 hp, with increased engine power, it has the same fuel consumption as the less dynamic version. An average of 15 liters is consumed, 20 liters in the city, and 11 per 100 km on the highway.

Car reviews

  • Valery, Kharkov. I got into a car for the first time and immediately felt like I was in a real tank. At the same time, it is very comfortable, and the speed it shows completely satisfies me. The only thing that’s not encouraging is fuel consumption, which rises to 20 liters per hundred.
  • Valentin, Balashikha. For a long time I drove a Sportage, now I switched to a Nissan Patrol. I am pleased with the comfort and amazing reliability of the car, high cross-country ability - you can go literally from anywhere. At the same time, the average consumption is 17 liters, but in nature it jumps to 20-21 liters per hundred square meters.

Nissan Patrol TB45 4.5

In the fifth generation, the 4.5-liter power unit with 200 horsepower is the most popular. This is a petrol version, offered with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The engine will accelerate the car to 100 km/h in just 11.9 seconds.

But this engine consumes quite a lot of gasoline: 20 liters in the city, 12 on the highway, 16 liters in mixed mode. The automatic consumes the same 20 liters in traffic, while highway and mixed consumption are 12.2 and 16.5 liters, respectively.

Real fuel consumption

  • Ivan, Orenburg. I have a 2003 model, 4.5 liters of power is enough both on and off-road. In winter, to my surprise, I discovered that the Patrol held the road quite poorly, maybe it was a problem with the tires, I need to figure it out. Consumption is practically no different from the passport in the city of 20 liters, on average it turns out to be about 17 liters.
  • Konstantin, Kazan. I bought a 2004 Nissan Patrol; for work I often travel long distances. The car is safe, comfortable and dynamic. The 4.5 engine with automatic transmission consumes quite a lot, on the highway up to 16 liters, if you drive at the limit, in the city no less than 20. But since I drive for work, and they refund me for gasoline, I don’t really care.

Nissan Patrol 4.8

A more powerful version of the 4.8-liter gasoline engine produces 245 horsepower, with which the Patrol accelerates to 100 km/h in just 10.8 seconds. After restyling in 2004, it was this gasoline version that the Japanese left on the assembly line. After finishing the automatic, gasoline consumption was compared with the manual and is 25 liters per 100 km in city mode, an average of 18.2 liters, on the highway 14.3 liters.

I've always dreamed of a jeep. I really wanted to buy a 200 Kruzak, but when I saw the new Patrol in the Nissan showroom, I fell in love with it. At that time, its price and fuel consumption moved me away from my dream for a year. Time changes and so do opportunities, so I decided to buy it on credit! I took the Kruzak for a test drive twice and liked everything, even more! But Nissan immediately impressed with its steep acceleration dynamics. A sort of sports car in a 3-ton body. This is a very important moment for me! Therefore, the choice became obvious. I drove almost 20 thousand. I did the first maintenance. Paid 23,000 rubles. (and not 15-18 as Nissan managers write here in reviews) + how much more for the front pads. Consumes 25 liters consistently! At least that’s what the computer shows, and I go to gas stations much more often than in my previous car (Audi A 6). But I didn’t go into too much detail. I haven’t changed the tires, I drive my original all-season tire in the winter, but once on ice outside the city I slowly drove up a hill at an angle. The wheels began to spin in one place and then smoothly drifted down and slightly to the side towards the beautiful blue spruce trees. Switching between snow and all-wheel drive modes did not help. But everything worked out, I braked, drove out in reverse, but I realized that firstly, for such terrain you need winter studded tires in the winter, and secondly, this is no longer the same SUV that was before! By the way, in the summer the same story happened on the hill, I couldn’t get out, there was mud, and I was skidding like a sucker, looking at the girl who was smiling loudly! Well, to hell with him, I drive around the city, I forgave him for these mistakes! Patrol has been making me happy for the 7th month now; you leave the house and want to get behind the wheel as quickly as possible. Once I spent the night in a car, I laid out the last two rows, there was a lot of space, my legs were stretched out, I could easily put one more person (preferably a girl) and it wouldn’t be cramped! All its advantages have already been repeatedly described here by people and managers, so I won’t write about it! Everything suits you! For a person who is now making a choice, I will say this: if there are no stressful thoughts about fuel consumption and the last piece of bread does not go into the gas tank, then I recommend this car! Although I will describe one minus below!
