Traditional sighting devices

Traditionally, the target shooters of the shotgun was one of the fleece, usually a cylindrical ball (European tradition) or a ball (American tradition) of forms. In Russia, the guns are produced with cylindrical-ball-shaped mushkami (i.e., a complete or flat sphere on a cylinder or a cone). At the same time, the gun, as a rule, has a sighting bar. Aiming plank is a very important element of the aiming devices for most shooters. With a conventional foam, only a few arrows do not have discomfort when shooting from a gun without a sight schedule. Planck and flies, against the mugs alone, significantly increases the convenience, speed and accuracy of aiming.

The aiming plank can be lying to the dulp part (so on most of the horizonts, and on a few verticals), or not to have a narrowing (so made almost on all verticals). The bar may be narrow (6-7 mm) and wide (9.5-12 mm). Wide straps equip mainly sports rifles, such strips also often have a white or red narrow strip or groove in the middle.

My opinion: the width of the plank is who is used. Personally, I do not like broad planks, with grooves, bars, and like a narrow plank. However, this opinion is subjective and, most likely, in the framework of sports disciplines, such broad planks really give an advantage, since they are equipped with almost 100% of sports guns.

The material strip is traditionally steel or recently carbon fiber. Plastic is good because it is easier, and, being not soldered along the entire length of the trunk, does not change its geometry when heating the barrel from intense firing. But his minus is fragility, so it can be used on the hunting rifle, it can be used mainly on "sterile" hunting, without prey in the thickets and other Russian attributes of the hunting.

The first step towards changing the aimed devices was expressed in the fact that two fleems began to install on the gun - a small in the middle of the plank and large at the end. When aiming, they were required to combine. Such a system was distributed mainly on American self-loading and shopping rifles, especially this idea was like Mossberg, but also other firms (Benelli, Remington, etc.) produce guns with 2 flyers. What was the main disadvantage of traditional flies? Small contrast on the background of the forest. They fought with this, making a fly from brass (yellow), ivory, staining her paint in white. This breakthrough occurred with the advent of a special plastics, which had the properties of fiber, i.e. It was capable of directing most of the light flux falling on the cylinder (or parallelepiped) from such plastic from all sides, only along the axis of this cylinder. Because of these properties, the fleems from such plastic are called light-coating and retroreving, although the last definition is incorrect because it relates to products that can direct the light flux back to its source. An example is retroreflective blocks on cars.

The "intermediate" option is flies from ordinary bright plastic. Recently, very often such flies put on sports guns. They are usually performed in the form of a parallelepiped with a length of about 20 mm, with a truncated end facing the executed part. For the daytime conditions for the arrow, they differ slightly from fiber optic, and shooting at dusk according to the rules do not practice.

Fiberglass flies are produced by TRU Glo, Hiviz and others. Differ mainly in length and fastening method.

The second option is an elongated up to 30 mm cylinder or cone, often made with replaceable flies of different colors. The base of flies is made of metal or plastic. The third option is a long, 60-80 mm cylinder, reinforced on the guide, performed almost always from plastic.

Flies of the second and especially third type (long) look markedly brighter than small, and allow you to produce a successful aiming in low light conditions. In general, the longer the fly, the more she is capable of collecting light, and the brighter it will be below the level of illumination at which the fly will noticeably. All fiber optic flies allow you to immediately, while driving a gun, in contrast to collimators and ordinary flies, subconsciously focus on them. Thus, the process of aiming with light-cutting flies begins even during the rapid of the gun. High contrast and errorless identification allow aiming much faster than with a conventional flour.

What disadvantages have fiber-fiber flies? The main problem of such fluffs (second and third types) is their mechanical fragility and molding on weapons. The first-type flies are made from much more durable plastic, less light-cutting, and firmly embedded in a metal clip. Since they are attached to the place with a standard screw located in the lower part of the cage, then such a fly has no problems with durability, nor with the installation height. When shooting during the daytime, such flies practically do not inferior to the flies of the second and third types.

The fragility of longer flies is due to a significant length and material of the flies, as well as the material of the guide, which in the overwhelming majority is made from plastics. However, if you contact a gun carefully, then no problems of the fly creates.

The second problem is the installation of a flesh on a gun, originally not equipped with such a foam. The thing is that the regular fly is usually very small, and fiber optic, besides the fact that herself is often more regular, it is also reinforced on the guide. The guide is almost always made of plastics. Since to ensure the strength, it is necessary to make this guide of sufficient thickness, then all together it leads to the fact that the fiber-optic fleet independently installed on the gun turns out to be significantly higher than the regular, and the gun begins to be lowered, it is often very noticeable.

From these drawbacks, the flies installed at the factory are practically free. They are attached to P-shaped holders straight to the sighting bar, without guide. Either in the bar milling dovetail"under the guide of flies. Thus, their height coincides with the height of ordinary flies. In addition, it is used enough a large number of Holders, literally through every centimeter, and these holders are made of steel, not plastics. This significantly increases the strength of the flies, and at the same time, it reduces, and even almost eliminates the visibility of the side surface of the fiber optic insertion to the left (illegious) eye. And this increases the convenience of aiming.

The fastening of the fleet of the second and third types selling separately, can be on a magnet and using a special plastic frame, pre-installed on a rifle bar, gluing with bilateral tape. Almost all of them have a hole in the front for fastening with a screw, screwed into place of the regular fly. However, due to their length and used as a guide of plastic, consolidate firmly such a fly only with a single screw is impossible.

Magnetic fastening, if not duplicated by any other attachment, it can easily be knocked down when the branches of the branches can be touched. Therefore, such flies are usually fixed by another screw.

Plastic clip, pre-fixed on the gun, makes it easy to change fiber optic inserts, keeping the shooting of flies. Fiber optic insert on its own guide is fixed simply by friction.

And magnetic fastening, and plastic clips have a significant drawback that change the form of projection of the front of the plank. Aimicious becomes somewhat less convenient due to the fact that at the end, in the place of fastening the flies, it turns out an extension that does not join with the projection of the execution of the plank. As a result, the time is not lost. And with a high height of the flock, which is obtained due to the climb + guide, the aiming bar is almost falling from the aiming tools.

The method of fastening on bilateral tape is simple, but requires an extremely neat installation, since when there is a blockage and correcting the position of the flock when scotch is rubbed, it can break and stretch out, having lost its adhesive properties. In addition, bilateral tape is very fast (the year of operation, or even less) under the inevitable effect of oil and water loses its properties. The author is known for the case when the flies glued to the bilateral tape, which comes in a set with the Tru-Glo fiber, fell out and lost on the third day of hunting, which greatly upset the owner of the gun, as the fly was not silent, the hunt was not over yet, and the regular fly was in advance dismantled. You can glue the fly with any durable oil and water-resistant glue. It should be remembered that domestic adhesives made on the basis of rubber (glue "moment" and "super moment") are able to firmly fasten the fly for no more than a couple of years - in the future under the influence of oil glue loses its properties. It is best to use epoxy resin. Stretching will be very firmly, and neither shots nor the operation of the gun's position of the fleet does not change. There is no dispute, the connection does not have such a fortress as a soldering, but with normal circulation there will be no problems. When gluing a new fly, I recommend left the factory. The advantage of adhesive landing is that it is much simpler to align the fly when gluing, since its movement is allowed in the process of solidification of glue. Also adhesive landing is lower than on bilateral scotch, which is also important. Naturally, the sticker requires carefully to degrease the surface.

It is gluing that it is better to establish on any rifle the domestic feline "Feline eye" producing PKF "Efclone". Thus, regardless of the purchased version of the IL bar (6.75 mm) or the tension (8 mm), you will best secure the fly on your gun, while the form of projection of the front part of the gun will not be changed. We do the following: remove the whole fiber optic insert with the metal guide itself, and simply glue it with epoxy resin directly on the bar. When using epoxy resin, the effect of changes in the color of the flies is noticed - yellow modifications acquire a greenish tint.

At the same time, the height of the fly almost coincides with the height of the standard, only aiming will be made not under the target, but in the very purpose (i.e. the projection of the fly is the center of scape). The fly is very firmly, since the form of its projection is a square, and the surface area under glue is large enough. The fiber optic part itself is made of more durable plastic than TRU GLO and HIVIZ flocks and withstands without consequences even with a hammer. It, of course, is noticeably less bright than imported flies, but its brightness is quite sufficient for instant identification. It can be seen to the latest twilight when hunting is possible. I recommend that such a "naked" installation of a feline eye flies and on domestic two-barrels with a horizontal arrangement of the trunks. A concave form with a tavering bar on domestic horizonts creates serious problems when installing imported long flies. There is no one of the attachments, except for gluing. Due to the relatively wide guide with a concave bar, gluing the double-sided tape gives a very strong decrease in the center of the scree. True, as for me, I did not consider this disadvantage, as it turned out that it was more comfortable and faster to aim from the horizontal with an open plank. This is because I'm used to vertical, so at least after training and do not feel the difference in the aiming of the vertical and horizonts, but still, aiming the open plank (so the review is much more, the trunks close the smaller area) from the horizonts to me more comfortable. Fair eye flies, being freed from the steel guide and easy processing of the bottom of the bottom for a better pairing with a concave form of the plank (however, it can not be done), it sits down on glue and firmly keeps it, while its height turns out to be equal or practically Equal (if without refinement) a regular torus! Similar plastic or fluorescent close to it is also often used for the manufacture of toys and different items. However, the brightness of such homemade flies will still give up even a feline eye feline, not to mention Tru Glo and Hiviz.

Fiber optic flies are available for installation on single-tier guns that do not have a visiting plank. They have semicircular, on the shape of a barrel, guide, glued to the trunk. Such a fly is shown in the photo to the third type of fiber optic flies, the photo "B".

The feline eye flies are also easy to install on such a guns, slightly diluted on the side of the ends of the P-shaped guide, for better conjugation with the trunk and decrease in the height of the flies, and consolidating it on the trunk with the help of "cold welding" (high-strength epoxy resin).

Long flies slightly reduce the aiming line, but at the length of the barrels 700-750, the reduction in the line for 80-90 mm does not have a large effect.

Often, fiber-optic flies are sold in a set of fly + culk. The whole is also performed from fiber, and most often has a different color or projection size to improve identification.

It is good when shooting a bullet, as it allows to increase the accuracy of firing. The velocity rate with fiber optic fiber and the whole is higher than when using conventional calves and flies. For shooting, the fraction of the whole is not needed, although at some addiction it interferes not very much, while maintaining the constant ability of a relatively more accurate shot when shooting a bullet. However, it should be noted that such targeted devices do not give high battle accuracy, due to the round shape of the fly and edges of the whole, as well as visible distances between them. When aiming does not work with strict monotony, which leads to a significant displacement of STP. Put ourselves or not - more arguments "against" than "for". Calc, although it allows to eliminate lowering the point of hit when installing an abnormal flies, but at the same time almost removes the sighting bar from the aiming process. Its installation is partly justified if the bullet often comes from the gun. But the best solution in this case will be the installation of a collimator sight, which is much more accurate and more convenient in the aiming.

Thus, we have already touched another type of shotguns of shotguns - a conventional open sight, equipped with a whole and flour. Such sights are installed on shotguns designed mainly to shoot a bullet, so-called. "Deer" rifle ("Deergun").

It can also be seen on some police shotguns (for example, Benelli M3T with a fold-up butt). The trunk of such shotguns is shortened, without a sight schedule. Often such American-made guns are equipped with a completely rifled trunk. For firing bullets, an open sight is suitable very well, as it is possible to adjust the two axes. Dioptric sights

Another type of sight that firmly occupied the place on combat and police shotguns is a diopter, or, as it is called in the US "Ghost Ring" (Ghost Ring).

Dioptric sights on shotguns, naturally, have an increased opening, compared with dioprats for rifle weapons, about 3-3.2 mm, for the most quick aiming. Such an eye is often called ring, although the magnitude of the opening is the only difference. The advantages of such sights are an enlarged sighting line, which is especially important for short shotguns, which are used in combat purposes, as well as the exclusion of one element from aiming - the whole. From the arrow you only need to combine the fly and goal, as the smooth deduction of the flies in the visible ring is installed instinctive. The sight, in contrast to the traditional fly-culk, significantly closes the target, because the target of the arrows sees one only the fly (which is usually performed high). The canonical lack of a diopter is a small luminous threshold, for sights on shotguns, littlectual. Indeed, the use of a rifle diopter with a very small hole (1-1.78 mm) in low light conditions is very problematic. However, on smooth vehicles, the hole has a diameter of about 3-3.2 mm and in conditions of reduced illumination, it is little inferior to the usual milling plate. He strongly helps the convenience and speed of aiming and the installation of light-fiber flies. Of course, this is not a sight for the night shooting, but to later twilight shoot quite real.

In general, the sight is good, but for Peru's hunter is unsuitable, as it is designed for shooting in large-sized not very fast moving targets, and the rapid aiming of it from it is difficult for a flying bird, although it is possible after the skill. Therefore, dioptric sights found their niche on smooth-bore rifles designed for firing bullets and tactical shotguns.

The usual Planck-Mushka still provides a greater velocity speed and the convenience of accompanying a moving target.

Ring Sight

Very exotic design borrowed from zenith machine guns. It represents several concentric semiwesights (usually 3), connected by 3 radial straight (one vertical, 2 - horizontally. Another type of sighting devices appeared at the very last time, but already claims to take a place on a significant number of shotguns. it colmatory sight (Further for brevity - KP). Colimators are divided into:

  • Active (work from batteries, aiming brand is visible around the clock) and passive (do not require energy from the outside, but the aiming brand is visible only during the day and in weak dusk). Aiming brand in passive is very neuropric and low-contrast.

The advantages of collimators.

1. Significantly simplify and accelerate the target process, since it is not necessary to level anything, only combine the brand and purpose, while the problem disappears the problem of different focusing of the eye on target and brand, which is very relevant when using conventional aiming devices, where either the goal is visible vague, or Mushka. Adding a whole more complicates aiming. This makes the CP especially attractive for persons who do not have greater shooting experience. The speed of aiming and the performance of firing when using the collimator increases markedly, it is especially noticeable for newbies.

2. Increase the shooting accuracy of the bullet, especially in persons who are not having large preparation. Allow the gun to shoot the bullet with a significant displacement of STP - sights are adjusting widely. Which is completely inaccessible to the flour-flour and is often very difficult or also not available in open metal sights on a shotgun (often performed by unregulated).

3. Corrects the shortcomings of the rifle, balance, Pitch angle, etc. in the usual hunting sense.

6. Facilitate the aiming of people with insufficient urgency at the right side (for example, astigmatism, myopia). If the left eye sees better, then he really becomes the lead, the right eye is "leading" only on a psychological habit, and this becomes especially noticeable when driving a rifle when the aiming devices are already seen by the left eye. KP, in contrast to the fly, it allows you to neutralize this disadvantage, because it is not visible to the left eye of the sighting brand. When applying a gun, the right eye, although it is not the lead, will see the sighting brand, and the surrounding reality will be visible to the left eye. For the arrow, it will be enough to combine the brand with a point of aiming for the production of an accurate shot. The arrows actually turns out to be before an alternative - will not learn to shoot from the left shoulder or do not make a lie with a tap under the left eye or purchase and installing KP. I note that in not very complex cases, when the right eye still sees quite well and initially retains the properties of the lead eye, the situation can fix the installation of fiber-optic flies than brighter, the better. At the same time, the drunkery of the gun can be made with a closed left eye, and only putting a gun to the shoulder and catching the gun to the right, the left eye opens. However, the effective problem is solved precisely using the CP.

Disadvantages of collimators, real or ascribed:

1. Increase the mass of the gun and change its balance (the last, though, usually for the better), slightly, since the collimators are very notighted. In the best models, this increase is very little and with enough heavy weapons like semi-automatic "Saiga" almost imperceptibly.

Open sights are also performed by hermetic, so there is no big advantage among closed type collimators.

4. Pararallax. Any optical system In varying degrees, it has this phenomenon: if you take any optical or collimator sight, send it to any fixed target (better, of course, fasten it), and then, not a touching sight, to move your head, i.e. look at the lens from different angles, then the sight will indicate different points on the goal, remaining fixed relative to it. In practice, this is a very unpleasant property of optics means that at different racks and ways to hold weapons, the weapon will be sacked in different points. Pararallax is peculiar to almost all the sights, cheap and expensive, and the only thing that can be done is to choose a sight whose relative error will be poorly, i.e. It will be within the desired shooting accuracy. Thus, when choosing optics, you should pay attention to how stably the position is taken by the head relative to the sight, and which mistake at the required distance will give us the usual movement of your head relative to the sight. Since the shotgun is carried out preferential shooting, the problem of parallax is completely irrelevant, and when shooting a bullet, a distance is limited to 100 m, and a good sight at such a distance does not give a significant displacement, and the displacement variation is a consequence of other factors in an incomparable greater extent. Pararallax good collimator 1-1.5 angular moments, i.e. 3-4.5 cm per 100 m, and with monotonous holding of weapons, it is zero, so when choosing a sight for a shotgun to Pararallax, you can not pay attention.

5. Alkaline batteries decreases at low temperatures. In winter, the sight is not recommended in the cold. Rationally in the winter period to wear a pair of spare batteries. In my opinion, the advantages of collimators significantly outweigh the disadvantages, but, of course, to solve the user himself, because a good scope is not so little. However, all deficiencies for verification are overcome, and the additional features obtained after the installation of the sight may bring an extra trophy.

There are still features inherent in the installation of collimators for smooth-bore rifles.

Smooth-bore rifles, especially domestic, simply do not have places to install collimators. For imported rifles, there are as having regular seats with a Picatini (Vaiver) (Benelli M1super90 Practical, Benelli M4) and removable pads on the trunks (aesthetically low-rotor) or a spare barrel with a welded version of the Voires (for Mossberg, Remington and Winchester) . From domestic guns, the regular side brackets have only saiga models. However, we hope that soon the rifle of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (MP-153, MR-133 may even be IZH-94 and IL-27) will be equipped with a side plank already at the factory.

The problem of installation of the sight is easily solved by installing on the side surface of the pump box, semi-automatic, single-bodies or double-barbell-vertical slats under the side bracket. The work is very simple, and can be made independently. Install the side bar can be almost any rifle. On the rifle with the horizontal arrangement of the trunks, the installation of the KP is difficult and requires a non-standard approach, but it is possible.
